I seen a post like this before saying this same story and I knew it was wrong but I didn't bother to say anything. Now that I've seen it again I not only want to say "it's wrong" but also provide proof from a book I have that explains how she got the role.

Pic was taken by me minutes before this post, what the mother says (before Evanna gets the role.) is actually quite funny.

That article doesn't mean the above post was wrong nor is it proof of it.

They don't mention anything about her prior to the audition so her being sick, going to the book signing, and offered a chance to audition could have happened.

Just says her mother didn't think she had a good chance and she didn't know if she was cast. Then when cast, she was actually perfect for the role.

Google the actress! If you find proof that I'm wrong I'd like to see it!

Straight from Wikipedia
In 2006, Lynch auditioned at a casting call in London for the role of Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the fifth film in the series adapted from the books. After auditioning against 15,000 other girls, and a subsequent screen test with lead actor Daniel Radcliffe, she was cast at the age of 14. Producers were impressed with her affinity for the character; David Heyman said "The others could play Luna; Evanna Lynch is Luna." Although uninvolved in the casting process, Rowling believed that Lynch was perfect for the role. She had never acted professionally before the Harry Potter series, her experience limited to school plays. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was Lynch's debut screen performance in 2007. The film was a box office hit, taking US$938 million worldwide, and garnered generally favorable reviews. Critics praised the performances of the supporting cast, often singling out Lynch for particular acclaim; A. O. Scott of The New York Times called her performance "spellbinding", and Jane Watkins of Country Life said she "[brought] an appealing sweetness to her character that's not so developed in the book". She reprised her role as Luna in the film's tie-in video game.

Not necessarily, the post said Rowling told her she could audition, not she got the part guaranteed.

Evanna Lunch, aka the girl who played Luna, auditioned for the role in a casting call along with 15,000 other girls.
User avatar #182 to #1 - guymandude (06/15/2013) [-]
Why do people keep posting this, thinking that it disproves the post above? It specifically says that Rowling said she could audition for the role of Luna, not that she would automatically get the part. That's not how acting works.

Don't get me wrong, I don't believe this post much either, but your statement gives no information to prove otherwise.

From IMDB
"Her father flew her to London to the open audition for the part of Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007). Her mother did not believe she had much of a chance of winning the role so initially refused to let her apply."

"As a younger child, she continuously wrote to J.K. Rowling . In one such letter, she commented about how much she would love to act in a Harry Potter film but doubted this would happen as she lived in a sleepy little place called Termonfeckin, where nothing ever happened. And to Evanna's surprise, Rowling wrote back, "Don't be too hard on Termonfeckin; it does have a brilliant name! And I come from a very sleepy place."."

Not once did J.K. Rowling go "Hey, if you beat anorexia you can play luna". Yes she was anorexic, yes she got a reply from Rowling, but what these posts try saying is false.

(BTW, don't source something if you go and say those types of sources can't be trusted)
User avatar #183 to #65 - guymandude (06/15/2013) [-]
I don't believe the post either. But technically speaking, that wikipedia quote doesn't disprove it at all. The post says Rowling would allow her an audition - not give her the ******* part no problem. and your post says she audtioned - that matches up. Also, the post implies she had no professional experience in acting, and your quote supports that.

"then" is used for any time-related things. Usually it's used to say what you're going to do next.

I washed the kitchen, then I took a shower.
If we can't go to the theatre, then we can go swimming instead.
Well then, if no one has a problem with it, I'm going to the party.

"than" is used to show that you prefer one thing over the other.
I'd rather walk the dog than clean the dishes.
It's better to hang delicate clothing to dry than put it in the drying machine.

J.K. Rowling had no say who auditioned for the movies. They had thousands audition for Luna and she didn't know that Evanna Lynch was one who wrote her a letter about her illness until after she got the part. She says this in her talk with daniel radcliffe on the deathly hallows blu ray.
