What about when Johnson is holding Captain Keyes's body in 3? You can tell there was something big between them in that.

My brother pissed me off by saying the campaign was **** because he didn't get a boss fight. He doesn't care about the story so he insulted it. ******* loved that ending D:

Funny thing is only 1 game had any form of boss fight, and that was halo 2. Heretic leader, Regret, and Tartarus. If he didn't like 4 simply because of boss fights, he wouldn't have been a fan of most of the Halos either.
User avatar #72 to #71 - mrwightproductions (04/21/2013) [-]
I explained that to him. He denies it. Then again, what can i expect from him. He's disappointed me time and time again with his lack of complex thought. He lives for fun and doesn't understand why so much **** happens to him.

I absolutely hated the entirety of the plot of Halo 4.
I'm not trolling. This is my actual opinion.
The premise, the writing, the lines, the forced relationship between MC and Cortana. The multiple assumptions of information. The lack of general... logic.
It had great gameplay and graphics, but as far as everything else was concerned, it was a bad game, and I would not play it again. I'm disappointed in 343.
They could have and should have done better.

2/10 would not play again

I agree that the game did not give off the same vibe of the relationship between Cortana and Chief. But hey, it's a game. It's purpose of entertainment is like a Michael Bay film.

My single biggest issue with the writing is in the second or third level, the one when you open up the cartographer by going to the two pylons on each side of the room.

During the cutscene, when Cortana starts spilling out some of the information she learned, she says something like "Shield World Designate: Requiem", and Master Chief says "At least we know where we are now." I hate that line with a burning passion, because they don't know where they are. They know the_ name_ of the place, not where the place is.
There's dozens of other little problems like this, or tiny assumptions of information where other characters suddenly become aware of major (or even minor) plot points that only the Chief should know.

And of course, the issue with the love story.
The writing for it makes it feel stale and awkward, and not in the "well, it's supposed to be because Chief loves a robot that's more human than he is" type of way.
The entire time it feels really pushed and forced upon the player.

Furthermore, I've always hated the way that many sci-fi stories like to rewrite human history, as Halo 4 did. It's like sptnfouroneseven said,
"But I do agree, the story of Halo 4 and all subsequent Halos is complete crap, for me it was ruined when I found about how "Ancient humans were as technologically advanced as Forerunners and lost a war with them." No, if you're doing sci-fi without time travel then you should follow the lore of Earth to the current date of production, then you have free reign over what happens."

It's a terrible tool used in writing that is becoming more and more prevalent and is an ineffective plot idea. Because in all of the Halo lore, even the new stuff, Earth is still the human homeworld. So where are all of the remnants of the old civilization? Where are the old spaceships, the shipyards, the monolothic steel structures?

Pic entirely unrelated.

We were brought to earth after the flood infestation had reached the point where they needed to fire the array. The terminal videos explain the whole story, about how we lost the war and had to live under the forerunners, who were for the most part compassionate. They become out protectors, and when the rings are fired, they bring us to either a shield world, or the ark, or someplace safe. Halo 3's terminals show the librarian had chosen earth for us before the firing of the rings, so we could have a beautiful new home to start anew as a civilization. It's actually a good story, if you can find the terminals while connected to waypoint.

But soft!
What fact through yonder wiki breaks?
It is the truth, and yours is the wrong.

I'm going to drop that style.
If I recall correctly, the lore of the story states the humans originated from Earth, and that is what I take issue with.
#91 to #90 - phoenixactual (08/30/2013) [-]
As the humans we are, we did.
User avatar #92 to #91 - warrenzthehero (08/30/2013) [-]
No, like the overall homeworld of the original ancient humans was still Earth.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Halfway through the game, I begged for Cortana to die. Mostly because she was useless and annoying. I don't see why 343 thought the MC would like her so much. She's a bunch of self-aware code, and he's been conditioned to act less like a person and more like a machine.
User avatar #23 to #19 - amandazetajohnson (04/21/2013) [-]
Do you want to know why John would have liked Cortana so much? Imagine this, you grew up only feeling comfortable and at ease with about 200 people, then every single one of them dies except one. All you know is there is one person, or in this case A.I., that you feel comfortable with, then you figure out that they are dying, you try your best to save them, and then you are just one step away from saving them and they die. The last person in the Universe that you feel at all comfortable with is dying. Why wouldn't you like them? Why wouldn't you be deeply depressed that they're dying? After Cortana dies John is entirely alone in the Universe, the majority of humanity won't accept him, and the ones that will accept John won't understand him. John has no idea if anyone from the Spartan-II program is even alive, he has to assume they are all dead. If you truly think that John wouldn't like the last person in the Universe he felt comfortable around and the last person he knows understands him, then you must be crazy.
#87 to #23 - phoenixactual (08/30/2013) [-]
Not all of John's friends are dead yet. We know most of the original blue team, as well as Dr. Halsey are still alive. Not sure about CPO Mendez, but most of the soldiers he grew up with are still alive.

User avatar #62 to #23 - derpwolf (04/21/2013) [-]
But all the SPARTAN-IIs haven't died yet. I'm decent sure that some of them are still alive and kicking. That's all in book-canon though. As for whether or not I think he'd care, I don't think he would. Sure, he'd probably feel bad they died, but he was preconditioned to put everything else before that.
#88 to #62 - phoenixactual (08/30/2013) [-]
The spartans routinely show grief over a lost brother or sister. look at noble when they lost Kat, or chief when he lost cortana. Even though she was only an AI, she was his closest friend in the whole world, because she had helped protect him his entire life.
User avatar #79 to #62 - sptnfouroneseven ONLINE (04/21/2013) [-]
You are quite correct, most of Blue Team is still alive with Mendez, Halsey, and a few Spartan-IIIs inside of Onyx. And John already believes them dead because of the prolonged silence from Kelly and Fred after they left to aid Onyx with their sentinel problem.
#96 to #79 - phoenixactual (02/02/2014) [-]
Pretty sure they're out of Onyx, now. Halsey was being interrogated at the start of Halo 4

There is a small sort of romance between the two characters however, given past history and all, along with the fact that Cortana is pretty much part of Halsey who Im sure most male Spartans had a thing for, even if they did call her "Mom". But I do agree, the story of Halo 4 and all subsequent Halos is complete crap, for me it was ruined when I found about how "Ancient humans were as technologically advanced as Forerunners and lost a war with them." No, if you're doing sci-fi without time travel then you should follow the lore of Earth to the current date of production, then you have free reign over what happens.

The multiplayer also became Call of Duty: Halo Edition in my opinion, with the addition to actual classes you can customize with weapons instead of having presets.
User avatar #22 to #21 - derpwolf (04/21/2013) [-]
Most people used the DMR anyway. Personally, I only played Spartan Ops and the campaign. The multiplayer always lagged so much though that it was hardly worth doing anyway.

I have a feeling she might not be gone forever. Keep in mind the forerunners were the dominate species in the galaxy. They must have had a galactic computer network connected to every forerunner system in the universe, possibly with remote access to the array on some level. Every ship would have had a connection, including the Didact's. This being said, I'd imagine Cortana would have uploaded herself into the database before the end, as a copy, where she'd be repaired by the ancient forerunner AI connected to the system. We already learned forerunner AI had the ability to repair human electronics, look what guilty spark did to the message chip Cortana had sent to earth.
