seppuku is committed when a great dishonour is brought upon the lord through the action of the samurai, if the dishonour is great but accidental the samurai may have a fellow master of the blade remove his head to aleive hours of death through blood poisoning and loss.. samurai who's masters have died and don't stay to follow the orders of the lords heir are called ronin and are looked down upon by those who stay loyal and are considered dishonoured so if captured they were given the choice to fight for their honour or commit seppuku.
