yup, too bad he'll choke on pie (well, poison actually) and Tyrion will be wrongly accused of it.

Strangely, I don't dislike Joffrey. Crude, vile, and cunt with a bowling-ball up his ass, certainly, but it's really entertaining to watch him interact with others.

I love this... In so many sci-fi and fantasy stories, female characters are idealized. I love all the female characters in asoiaf (most of them I love to hate but, you know). Every character has their own flaws and agendas. I wish I could be a sand snake...

Game of Thrones is loosely based on The War of the Roses. One of the sides in TWOTR was Lancaster. In GoT there are the Lanisters, who live on Casterly Rock

The North is also loosely based on Scottish history. The Red Wedding is apparently a reference to the Glencoe Massacre.
User avatar #110 to #91 - brassydolphin (07/16/2013) [-]
You're right actually, but it's also a lot based on the roman empire
For examples, the wall is based on the three-meter high wall the romans raised in scotland, where they decided to: **** this cold ass **** , no human should live where it's this cold. The wildlings represents the barbarians that ultimately ****** rome's **** up.

Also, the lord of light and the way it's spread in westeros is based on christianity in the roman time, it was started as a weird as **** sect in the east by sandpeople and most romans were scared as **** from it. Then this ********** Constantine (Stannis) declares that the lord of light is the one true god, splitting the empire in the part that reveres the traditional gods and the part that reveres the lord of light

am I the only one that doesn't like daeny in the show? I've heard she's a little more interesting in the books, but it seems like everybody loves her even though she's never done **** . She's always got that "I freed all these slaves, I'm awesome" mentality, and all she does is walk around, strip, and ocasionally say "hey maybe you guys should just stop being slaves" and everybody treats her like she's ******* god. Everybody just freed themselves, she's never even lifted a finger.
User avatar #21 to #19 - Kentaru (07/12/2013) [-]
well she did order the unsullied to kill the slavers
User avatar #24 to #21 - toadkillerdog (07/12/2013) [-]
yeah, she told them to kill their own masters. She basically just said "hey you guys should stop being slaves" and they did everything else. That's like me going to ethiopia and saying "hey you guys should just stop being hungry" and getting a godamn noble prize for it.

After the Red Wedding, the only character i have left is Arya. Martin can kill the others off in a fisting accident for all I care, but if he touches Arya I swear to god. The Hound is actually cool too, though I'm still not that far in the series and I feel like Martin is just making me kind of like him so it hurts that much more if he kills him.

As Good As It Gets

That's funny...

Catelyn - Jealous and unaccepting, vengeful and unreasonable as Lady Stoneheart
Sansa - useless
Arya - Absolute badass, but definitely masculine
Shae - Disloyal whore (literally)
Daeny - Naive and lacks confidence, but goodhearted
Lyanna - not enough is known about her, but she was cool enough that a war was started over her kidnapping
Brienne - GirlBeast, but a pretty cool character.
Melisandre - Terrifying manipulator devoted to a bloodthirsty god
Most of the Sand girls of House Martell - crazy people I would love to have on my side. Care for their old family members well, want the best for their people, unselfish...but willing to go to any length to get what they want.
Dothraki Women - Loyal and submissive (But I would be too if I saw a 14 year old girl emerge from flames unharmed), and strong fighters

I know I'm forgetting a few, but seriously...there's not much good to say about most of the women in this series. For the most part they're all out of their mi...I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE
#12 to #2 - knowstoomuch (07/12/2013) [-]
Spoilers ^ View at your own risk. I'm going to respond so don't read this any further if you don't want spoilers:

Catelyn- Loving mother who only becomes vengeful because ALL OF HER CHILDREN ARE DEAD, AND SO IS SHE
Arya- Total badass, nothing wrong with her at all! Also she's like 11
Lysa- Agreed
Shae- What else do you expect from a whore?
Daeny- She's 14 and the leader of not one but two nations. Cut her some slack
Cersei- She uses her puss better than her brother uses his blade. She's evil, but loves her children unconditionally.
Lyanna- Ever heard of Helen of Troy? Same thing.
Brienne- And you called Arya masculine? Brienne is amazing and nothign like the other female characters. Jaime has even fallen in love with her so PP
Melisandre- Not bloodthirsty, only godly. She knows what she is doing and you better listen or you die!
Sand Snakes- Think powerpuff girls who hit puberty. They are like if Cersei and Brienne combined into one person who asexually reproduced into five(+?) sexpots
Dothraki Women- not as strong fighters as you think.

The women in this series are amazing characters, just like the men. Just because they have flaws dont make them bad, it makes them better.
User avatar #68 to #12 - pikachupokemon (07/12/2013) [-]
>all of her children
>sansa, arya, rickon, bran
#77 to #68 - knowstoomuch (07/12/2013) [-]
She doesn't know that. She thinks they are all dead.
User avatar #17 to #2 - delphine (07/12/2013) [-]
Catelyn- She's protective and will do anything to defend her family. Her husband is executed, thinks Rickon and Bran are dead, Sansa and Arya are missing (presumed dead), and when Robb dies, she has truly lost everything. Wouldn't you be vengeful?
Sansa-- Naive, romantic, foolish in whom she trusts... like most teenage girls. Her character will grow out of it.
Arya-- She's a tomboy, with a strong spirit. She has the she-wolf qualities her Aunt Lyanna was said to have.
Shae-- Well duh.
Daeny-- She started out lacking confidence and wisdom, which stems from suffering under her brother's abuse her whole life. Once she's free of him, her character starts to grow. I'll be interested to see where her story arch heads in the next book.
Cersei-- She's been used as a pawn by her father, her husband resented her because she wasn't Lyanna, her actions are absolutely atrocious but you can understand why she is the way she is. She thinks she is much smarter than she actually is, makes impulsive decisions and usually ends up paying for it.
Lyanna-- We don't know much about her, but we can speculate. She was apparently a lot like Arya-- hot tempered, wild, wolfish. The girl had chutzpah. I'm a firm believer that she ran away with Rhaegar and wasn't kidnapped (she was 16, not exactly an age known for wisdom).
Brienne-- teased mercilessly all her life for her size and plain looks. she most likely became a warrior because it was the thing she was best at.
Melissandre-- She's a zealot. Probably the most dangerous woman of the bunch.

There isn't much good to say about most characters.
User avatar #18 to #10 - delphine (07/12/2013) [-]
There are good qualities and bad qualities about each character (except maybe Joff or Theon). That's what makes them so realistic. Even Cersei's virtue is that she loves her children. She probably had the potential to be a better person and one time but was screwed over so many times (mostly by her father and Robert) she decided that she wasn't going to put up with anyone's **** anymore and from thereon looks out for herself and her kids and will do whatever she thinks it takes to protect what she has.
User avatar #69 to #18 - pikachupokemon (07/12/2013) [-]

how do he portray women as people?

in the show (IDK about the book) They are pretty in every background scene naked :T
User avatar #52 to #49 - anonrandom (07/12/2013) [-]
I believe he refers to the main characters primarily
#53 to #52 - yurestu (07/12/2013) [-]
that would make more sense but i still think the naked women in every scene would still cancel out his "women as people", I don't care how bad-ass the main characters are...
User avatar #57 to #53 - pockyrin (07/12/2013) [-]
Well people get naked, having sex doesn't make you less of a person? I get what you mean you are thinking they are being objectified, I would say that most of the sex scenes have a plot point of two devious characters being involved or so. A lot of the women have great character growth and development, even if they were originally introduced to us naked.
User avatar #56 to #53 - anonrandom (07/12/2013) [-]
Well people have sex right? Some of the characters are married, have lovers, or just like whoring it up at a brothel. And none of this is glossed over as another story might. You think the men of the west in LOTR were all monks?
User avatar #65 to #49 - lyiat ONLINE (07/12/2013) [-]
