User avatar #9 to #8 - ljxjlos (04/24/2013) [-]
Arya Stark. She has gotten way to much built-up and mystery to just be killed off too soon, so I really hope she´ll survive to the end.
User avatar #10 to #9 - GhostOfRavenclaw (04/24/2013) [-]
i think she will too and her part will be expanded to encompass her killing many......many others lol im partial to jon snow but thats just me personally
User avatar #11 to #10 - ljxjlos (04/24/2013) [-]
Yeah, Jon Snow also is one of my favorites next to Arya. Arya, him, the guardian knight if the khaleesi (what was his name again, I keep forgetting, everytime?)...yeah, those are my top 3, at least as far as I remember... I read way to much, so I keep forgetting some stuff until I re-read.
User avatar #37 to #11 - roflsaucer (04/24/2013) [-]
I like Jon Snow too but after finishing ADwD I'm so confused and sad at the same time.

And before anyone gets mad about spoilers, he doesn't die.
#90 to #37 - blackoutsox (04/25/2013) [-]
dont know if you read the end but he was left in the snow with like 50 daggers sticking of him so I feel like it was strongly implied
User avatar #92 to #90 - roflsaucer (04/25/2013) [-]
I know, it was strongly implied but it wouldn't be the first time we were so deceived.

But the one thing that is keeping me from thinking he's dead is because, come on, it's JON SNOW. He's an extremely pivotal and important character, and I think the Red Lady will have something to do with him coming back, if he does.
#100 to #92 - blackoutsox (04/25/2013) [-]
I sincerely hope so as well, esp since he's my last original favorite still in one piece. I bet he's revived, and the Red Lady finds out hes the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark and is the person she's looking for, not the misplaced Stannis.
User avatar #108 to #100 - roflsaucer (04/25/2013) [-]
I suppose it IS possible for him to be Lyanna's son, since they never really told us how she died, so childbirth can't really be ruled out.
But he's not Azor come again, it's made clear that's Daenerys. The "waking of the stone dragons", marked by the red comet, was when Dany burned Khal Drogo's body ( the blood of kings, as Khal = King), and woke her stone dragon eggs.
So he COULD be the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna, but not Azor.
#109 to #108 - discon (04/27/2013) [-]
I had actually not considered that Jon Snow wasn't actually the son of Eddard. Interesting point.
Most times when G.R.R.M kills a character off, he does it quite non-chalantly, and then continues on as if nothing's happened. This was the end of the book. I'm thinking he'll wake up, having been "revived" by Melisandre in a similar fashion to how Beric Dondarion is resurrected by Thoros of Myr in a Storm of Swords.

Personally, I don't think there IS a Azor Ahai. There are many claims to the title, and I think that's what makes it interesting. Daenerys waking her dragons could simply be some piece of magic. A Khal rises to power for his fighting ability, not for his lineage. He wouldn't have "the blood of the kings".

On a side note, I can definitely see Daenerys marrying Jon Snow, if she ever conquers Westeros.
User avatar #110 to #109 - roflsaucer (04/27/2013) [-]
I don't think Jon Snow is dead due to the simple fact of just how important he is. Other than Eddard, Catelyn, and Rob, none of the Starks have been killed. Jon Snow's position is important, as it's clear the biggest threat is the Others, as made clear throughout the books. I think, if Jon really is alive, that he is either saved by the Wildlings before he dies from the 3 or so daggers that he was stabbed with, or Melisandre revives him after his death. Or a combination of the two, where Melisandre rescues him somehow, and keeps him alive.

But I definitely think the Azor Azhai is more of a foreshadowing thing. I think it should be clear to everyone by now that Daenerys is going to be on the Iron Throne. She has the Iron Fleet coming to help her, The Golden Company and her brother, and all the armies of Dorne. And, the biggest thing of all: Dragons. The second half of the next book and the first half of the last will probably have to do with the conquering of the Northern half of Westeros after Dany and Aegon take out the Lannisters in the south, and beginning to have to fight against the Others. And, given Jon Snow's death, or subsequent leave of the Night's Watch as a result of his near-death, I think the Wall will fall without him. So Dany will have to contend with the now invading Others.

And I don't really know WHO Dany will marry for good. She's pretty whimsical about it.

And sorry for the REALLY long response.

I´d recommend you the "wheel of time" series, if you like the style of Game of Thrones.

It´s an extremey long-running series, 35 books so far, the old author died from cancer, but the new author is genius, too. It´s definitey worth the read!

Why do you want it to end soon?oO Wouldn´t you want a series you like to last as long as possible (as possible with staying quality, of course)
User avatar #18 to #17 - GhostOfRavenclaw (04/24/2013) [-]
it has two authors??? how does that even work
User avatar #19 to #18 - ljxjlos (04/24/2013) [-]
Well, it is one of the most famous series world-wide, and when the author was diagnosed with cancer, he focused on ending the story in headwords and decided on another author he felt would be able to finish his story, so he kinda passed it on before his death, with his notices, so that the new author knew, how the story should be continued.

I have no Idea, when it will end, but my guess is, that it will take 10 volumes, at the very, very least to finish it up, and that is, if some stuff will remain unanswered and the story gets raced. I hope it´ll keep on longer, if the quality remains the same.
#101 to #25 - blackoutsox (04/25/2013) [-]
you know the series is over right? the last book came out like 2 months ago. It was a 1,000 page battle orgy, and very good but still loose ends left over and probably not the best one (Towers of Midnight and the first 3 being the best).

They have yet to reveal who Jon Snow's mother is, so again, this is all speculation.

In the books (as hopefully you know, or else I'm ruining this for you), they talk about how Ned Stark and company (Including Howland Reed) go to Dorne to rescue Lyanna Stark from Rhaegar. There Ned and company face the old members of the Kingsgaurd, all of them die, except for Ned and Howland. Ned then goes to Lyanna to find her dieing. She makes Ned promise her something, which the reader is initially led to believe is her request to have her burried in the north.

But when you take into account that Lyanna might not have actually been kidnapped by Rhaegar, but Rhaegar was actually her lover. If this is true, then it is possible that Jon Snow is the love child of Rhaegar and Lyanna, and that Lyanna wasn't killed by Rhaegar (as Robert believes) but instead died during childbirth. This would mean Jon would have the blood of the Dragon.

His coming back is supported by the fact that Maester Aemon says that the dragon has to have three heads, and the whole theory that Jon Snow is Azor Ahai (and that he is involved with Melissandre, and we know Dondarion was resurrected by Thoros).

This theory... is logical
User avatar #93 to #69 - thorsragnarok (04/25/2013) [-]
I thought something along those lines when i read the books but i assumed less on Lyanna liking Rhaegar and more she just wanted John to live regardless, which Robert wouldn't of let happened if he knew Rhaegar was the dad so she made Ned promise to protect him and Ned made up the story. Thats what i was leaning more on but i guess we'll have to wait and see
User avatar #97 to #93 - KayRed (04/25/2013) [-]
That is essentially the same thing, minus the whole "love" thing. They do make it clear though that Lyanna and Rhaegar had a thing. Remember they mention the tourney at Harrenhal (I think it was Harrenhal) where Rhaegar names Lyanna the sexiest bitch, or whatever they call it.
User avatar #102 to #97 - thorsragnarok (04/25/2013) [-]
Yeah i was just agreeing with your theory cept on the love part. and your talking bout the crowning of the most beautiful lady or what ever at harrenhal was one sided, Rhaegar crowned her cause he won the tournament no one had a say in it except Rhaegar. if there was anything from Lyanna it went completely over my head. So you could be completely right or we could both be completely wrong. damn talking about game of thrones makes me want to read the winds of winter already!!!
User avatar #103 to #102 - KayRed (04/25/2013) [-]
Oh, so you think she was raped, making Robert's rebellion justified. I kinda like it better if Robert was just being an idiot, and Ned let him do it.

Yea man his first book was published in 1985, but he usually drifts from GOT and write some other useless novels, but hey its his call. Just saying JRRT wrote his **** in less than 3 decades, George needs an extra decade, thats 40 years until he finishes everything.
User avatar #56 to #45 - KayRed (04/25/2013) [-]
David Beinoff and DB Weiss (creators of the show) supposedly already know how the series is supposed to end, so if Martin kicks it, those guys will finish it (they were both novelist before they made the show, so I'm ok with that, especially since they've worked so closely with Martin).
User avatar #60 to #56 - cloudshadowevil [OP](04/25/2013) [-]
Season 3 is the furthest thing from the book. Now im not one of those faggots thats just prudently say that the show sucks and the books are better (which is actually the case) but in all honesty, those producers demolished the whole thing by removing the most attractive aspect of the whole show, the realism. Long story short its not as real as it should be I.E. characters reactions, rationals, etc etc etc.
User avatar #64 to #60 - KayRed (04/25/2013) [-]
I feel for them though, they are in a tough spot, because of how detailed that book is, and how long it is, it's really hard to adapt it into 10 episode or 20 episodes, one is too short and they can't add everything in, the other is too long and they have to add more stuff in to fill out the space.

Plus, let's be honest here, people who just watch the show don't have the attention span to handle that many characters. That's why there is no Tom Six Strings, or Strong Belwas (or the entirety of the bloody mummers, but I think that replacement makes sense).
User avatar #68 to #64 - cloudshadowevil [OP](04/25/2013) [-]
And yes the replacement makes perfect sense but, the thing that jaime went through at the end, that didnt make sense. I mean those are men of the north honor and **** , what about raping? and doesnt he believe in chain of command any longeR?

I know he is supposed to be in the prologue (I completely missed it, only figured it out after the fact), but I thought they were very vague about it. Honestly, I don't see how else he could fit in the story, unless is he is the old man teaching Arya. (I am pretty sure that he is Syrio).
User avatar #83 to #80 - cloudshadowevil [OP](04/25/2013) [-]
well read the prolouge again, carefully, then read the Epilogue, and focus on a name that starts with P...His role comes later, G R R M is a very subtly ****** .
User avatar #67 to #64 - cloudshadowevil [OP](04/25/2013) [-]
I agree but to be honest, there are way to many useless details that meant nothing, and was never even found in the book, i m ean the build up that they created would be the ******* same if they just got it from the book. And their budget is ridiculously high, its a 9.4 rated show, if The walking dead (My favorite show) gets 28 million dollars an episode, im pretty sure GOT gets way more. They can end the season in 12 episodes if they chose it to, like dexter.
User avatar #72 to #67 - KayRed (04/25/2013) [-]

User avatar #33 to #29 - SlowpokeForever (04/24/2013) [-]
I've tried. George is..well...he kinda "pads" out his books. I think that if he took out all the gratuitousness descriptions (being a penis entering a vagina, an axe entering a skull, a penis entering a skull, an axe entering a vagina) I don't think his books would not be the huge ******* doorstoppers they are. I feel like they're that big because he wants them to be these huge thick monoliths so people think he's so great and imaginative. I think he's trying too hard.
User avatar #35 to #33 - cloudshadowevil [OP](04/24/2013) [-]
I agree, a book tends to get boring once you have a 6 page description about dinners and meals, but ******* hell it puts an amazing visual in your head, doesnt leave room for imagination but u would get everything he's trying to tell you.
User avatar #36 to #35 - SlowpokeForever (04/24/2013) [-]
True, but (as an aspring author myself) I feel that if you give your audience enough to work with, that have the fun is imagining this world in your head. It takes away the escapism. Sure, I could spell out this beautiful (in my eyes) world to you. But would you rather know that you're in a room with these people and the objects they interact with, and connect, with their emotions and reactions, what the tables and chairs and couches, and the tv, etc would look like? Like if I told you a chacter was a pale, tall man with shaggy brown hair and blue eyes, could you figure out his personality? I guess what I'm saying (ironically I'm going to talk this down to one sentence) Less is more.
User avatar #39 to #36 - cloudshadowevil [OP](04/24/2013) [-]
Well, stephen king leaves his books up to the imagination of the reader, George R R Martin, focuses on realism, he wants things to be real. It is why Game of Thrones is more of a history book than a novel.
