As far as I can tell, a bunch of beloved Game of Thrones characters were all killed in one episode.

Game of Thrones people getting sad and **** that people on the show died, I personally don't care as during a time of secession for a kingdom everyone tends to get ******* killed.

User avatar #131 to #129 - elitejerkz (06/05/2013) [-]
I'm saying that it's not really like Lord of the Rings at all.
One is an adventure to save middle-earth, the other is more about Houses fighting to rule a kingdom.
User avatar #165 to #131 - bluedwarf (06/05/2013) [-]
A tv series will always be a seperate genre and one should also have in mind that the book is one of numerous attempts at soap opera effect type of books. I've read such books as well, there's nothing wrong with that, maybe just a bit too cliché-ish for me taste.

I watched the first season, then immediately read the whole series to occupy me till season 2 hit dvd, yes some things changed but the writers for the show did such a good job with the changes that it doesn't bother me at all.
User avatar #62 to #30 - retardedboss (06/05/2013) [-]
I did the same after the second season (that's when I first heard about the show).

For the most part the show stays true to the books. There are a few things I chalk down to the change of medium. No longer being able to hear the thoughts of characters puts a lot of pressure on the actors to accurately portray their motives (or what the character wants there motive to appear to be).

A great example is how they straight out got rid of "Arstan Whitebeard". He just tells Dany that he is Barristan. People would have recognized him had he tried to hide.

Somethings though, like the absence of Strong Belwas, just make me sad. I have no idea why they took him out.

That was a bit long-winded. Apologies.
#122 to #62 - TacticalTyler (06/05/2013) [-]
I was hoping to see Strong Belwas too, but from a realistic point of view they already have too many characters for most to keep up with and actors to pay.

Well, not since the accident. I mean, the red wedding, new spots for actors just opened up.

I was going to read them back when the show first started, but then you could only buy them with TV covers, which are awful.

Ok, I might be the only person in the world to say this, but I didn't care about the nude/sex scenes in the show/books. Just I feel that it takes away from a Skyrim kind of story, now a sex scene in one of the first episodes was very important, but it is like "Undead creatures coming to kill everyone, John Snow growing his powers to be saviour of the land while the kingdoms fight for rule, SEX, Dragon born in the desert growing massive army with dragons to take the crown, SEX, drama of the land and secret plots, SEX." Just seems not needed most of the time.

I couldn't give two ***** about the sex. It's everything else that makes me want to watch it. If I wanted porn, I'd go to a ******* porn site. It's not like I despise it, but I agree with you, it's not needed that much.
User avatar #68 to #67 - senorfrog (06/05/2013) [-]
Exactly, but with the amount of sex and nudity in the first seasons made it basically a lame porno with better acting and better story.
User avatar #70 to #68 - finni (06/05/2013) [-]
Yeah. In the book it wasn't that much Porno. It was some, that with Cersi and Jamie, but in the series there were much more.

The sex scenes isn't necessarily a bad thing as it gives you and insight on what kind of world it is, but it's just that it's sooooo much of it, then it gets sort of lame and boring

Personally, I find both the show and book versions equal. The show version is more brutal and horrific for certain circumstances, thus making it still quite shocking even though I read it first. But the book, you get to read the thoughts of Cat, who's chapter it was when it was happening. (Her last thoughts are sad as **** .)

And I am actually quite surprised they went through with the whole thing. I expect at least SOME viewer loss for this, and if you're one of those thinking of not watching it anymore. Please do it. We've still got another wedding to attend. A glorious wedding.

===****WARNING SPOILER BELOW****===

I read the books and I'm a huge fan of the show. I enjoy the changes It hasn't disappointed me until last episode. The Red Wedding scene could have been a lot better. It's not what they changed about it but when I was looking at the actors' faces, I didn't see the emotions I expected. With Ned Stark's execution scene, the moment building up to his death made me more apprehensive. I don't know. The book was just a lot more intense in handling the Red Wedding.

Grey Wind should have killed at LEAST 100 people.
