Some Atheists: **** RELIGION AND CHRISTIANITY IN PARTICULAR!

Some Atheists: [Disbelieves internally]

Some Christians: PRAISE THE LORD OR DIE!

Some Christians: [Believes internally at least for the most part] Hey, want to accept Christ into your heart? No? that's okay.

That about sums it up

Some atheists: I don't want to be a dick, but your religion is leading to wars, denial of science, racism, and homophobia, so I feel morally obligated to try to persuade you that there is no god, only reason.

Just felt like clearing that up a bit.

What religions are leading to wars these days?

I just don't like abortion because I see it as murder. And I think it's stupid to have it in place and then complain about a lack of tax payers and such.
#123 to #122 - doodogger (07/16/2013) [-]
Me/you: Abortion is clearly murder. If you **** , it's your responsibility. This is a "right to live" issue.

Some (or most) other people: It's the mothers' bodies, they can do whatever they want. This is a civil rights issue.

I know I'll get **** for this, but I'm not afraid of my own opinion.

There will be a Post of mine with 150+ thumbs, and then under it, this post will have like -30+ thumbs.

Am I right?
User avatar #126 to #123 - commontroll (07/16/2013) [-]
Basically. I view murder as unjustly robbing somebody of their life. Which, abortion is that same thing, just before they can even experience anything.
User avatar #127 to #126 - commontroll (07/16/2013) [-]
Now, I understand there's plenty of situations where it's not their responsibility that they have a baby.

But the thing I hate is "Oh, it has autism. Abort." Then shouting "I didn't want it to have a life of suffering!"

Bitch please, autistic kids can be some of the happiest kids out there, same with any disorder. It's just the parents will have no life other than trying to raise such a child.

as an Atheist i have no issue with religion until
-the force me
-the use it as an argument for disproving facts
-they talk about it all the time
-they insult (i m going to hell bla bla )
User avatar #76 to #34 - zzforrest (07/15/2013) [-]
As for the last one, about insults, I have talked to many christians ( I'm not christian, rather a Theist ), and I was interested to find out it isn't really insulting, at least most of the time. Think of it this way, in terms of a parent seeing their child playing in the street.
The tolerant thing to do would be to let the kid play in the streets if he wants to. But the loving thing to do would be to tell him to get out before he gets hit by a truck.
Now for christians.
The tolerant thing to do is to let the athiest/whatever do whatever the **** he wants. But the loving thing to do is to let him know that the **** he's doing is going to get him to hell.
Just wanted to say.
User avatar #78 to #76 - stijnverheye (07/15/2013) [-]
But the loving thing to do is to let him know that the **** he's doing is going to get him to hell. <= this is what i mean .
I dont believe in hell/ heaven and its the last thing i wanna hear .(opinion: its ridiculous to believe in a place in the clouds)
I am disturbed by the fact people actually put time in the "crap" , life is already short as it is =enjoy everything and forget "afterlife".
Each time the subject gets this i feel the urge to help , to point out its an illusion and thats were its is getting used as an argument against facts.
User avatar #79 to #78 - zzforrest (07/15/2013) [-]
You have no perspective, man. They are trying to get you to believe, not because they are assholes but because they don't want to see you die. At least ******* understand where they come from before you start claiming that they are using illusions to distract from the truth! I don't agree with them but I'm not an ignorant asshole to them, because I actually understand why they say that.
User avatar #81 to #79 - stijnverheye (07/15/2013) [-]
i have perspective enough , but only in a different direction .
I dont wanna believe and when i die i will accept my fate and look back on all the nice moments i had just like it should be(i dont wanna live forever anyway , life is hard as it is for 50+ years). Illusions or not , i only believe in things i actually see with my own eyes . In my life i have never seen some proof of it , this does not disprove the existence of god but it doesnt prove it neither . But i have met Christians that are nice but i would like it if they kept their believes to themself . For example: i met this guy in the gym hes politen and friendly , but then he talks about god and that i need to prey for solving my problems and then he says i am lost. I feel offended but i try to reason with facts but he does not listen or agree.
User avatar #83 to #81 - zzforrest (07/15/2013) [-]
I think I see the problem here. Maybe it was uncalled for for him to say that you were lost but you can't possibly think that he was in the wrong for talking about praying to you. To him, part of his daily life is praying and if he doesn't listen to your "facts" ( which is likely just an angry rant against christians ) you can't expect to gain any respect from any person with an IQ higher than 100. You are basically under the fallacy that christians just can't accept facts, which is a common delusion among the closed minded, but to him, your "facts" are merely opinion, whatever your "facts" may be.
User avatar #86 to #83 - stijnverheye (07/15/2013) [-]
You seem Pro-Christian so may i ask how you can believe in something without any proof ?
I know it can create a bond or sort of a family but i still can't comprehend why people jump into a bottomless pit like that . I see it more as an "illusision" to comprehend the fact that death is scary and inevitable . And please i am not close minded , i am open for anything and how annoying it get (and i am still polite to that guy , i adapted )
User avatar #92 to #86 - zzforrest (07/15/2013) [-]
I'd rather consider myself anti-ignorance. I will stand up against anybody who is ignorant, regardless of religious standing.
But what I'm about to say may sound rediculous, stupid, or even ignorant, but it will make everything make sense.
In a christians mind, they have proof. The bible, their own hearing of god, precognitive dreams/visions, they value these things as much as an evolutionist values a carbon dated fossil. Just like how a creationist views that fossil as total ******** , and an evolutionist views Genisis as total ******** , a christian views these thing as true whilst an atheist will only scoff at their "proof" and move on. That makes sense, right? Although you may not view it as proof, they have proof of what they believe. I mean, carbon dating is pretty irrational considering we lack knowledge of the long term effects of time on carbon based objects. Likewise, hearing the voice of god is irrational because we lack knowledge of the working of the human brain that would explain why said voice is heard.

thats kinda the reason i stopped believing. I started to question myself and thought too much. I then realized, you cant possibly go to hell for not believing in something that exists or dosnt.

Plus most of the time religious zealots use the "your going to hell" as a threat when people try and prove them wrong or refuse to follow their beliefs. Threats will not make me believe in a religion, infact probably hate it more and the people.

Its not that i dont believe anymore, i just simply dont care anymore because it dosnt effect me.

I think you misunderstood what Marx was saying. He was comparing the analgesic properties of opiates to religion. Opiates repress a person and make them feel good. Religion, offering eternal salvation, love, etc, does the same to the population according to Marx. It represses them by offering a romantic perspective on life, allowing for governments and people in power to do as they please.
It has nothing to do with how much power religion has on the world, just how much power over the individuals that follow it. "You're poor but it's okay, you have God".
I think education is quite the opposite of what Karl Marx was getting at when saying religion is the opiate of the masses. If you wanna compare another concept...perhaps the American dream? But religion is still quintessential to that simile.
Pic semi-related.

Well it seems you have a cynical view on education. Further education has actually taught me to be wary of the man, and to question everything. But I do admit I have personally been through very "liberal" professors. Point is education doesn't have the same connotations as religion, simply because education is a broad term and can be very relative, but religion is a single path that cannot be changed or prove wrong.
Regardless, that remains to be what I was getting at. Religion is there to desensitize the population, and make them ignore the absolute power that the ruling class has over them, because God is that vice, that romantic escape from reality.
TL;DR: Ignoring those in power IS viewing capitalism as an unchangeable part of life, because it is those in power that control capitalism and view it right.

Oh you're right I apologize, I meant to say that the concept of education leading to oppressed views of superiors seems cynical, unfounded, and almost contradictory.
I don't think classical Marxism would deem modern education synonymous with contemporary religion in its effects on the perspective of the general population.
