Seriously, Mayas were gone long before spanish invation. Those were the Aztecas, read a book (or wikipedia) before talking! And lastly, no apocalypse or ****, it's just the end of their calendar just as yours ends in dec/31.

The Mayan calender is more accurate than the Gregorian calender and doesn't need to add the extra day

We need the extra day because the day only lasts 23 hours 55 minutes, idiot.
We throw in the extra day once every four years just so we can round it off to 24.

what I said was in response to xwilly as he stated that with leap years the supposed apocalypse should have happened already I was merely stating that the Mayan calendar is more accurate and shows the day as 23 hr 55 min rather than the Gregorian 24 hr

Well after careful reconsideration, and, also, another telling me.... Okay, mostly the other person telling me, I realize we're both basically talking about the same thing and I misinterpreted the original comment.

As did many other FunnyJunkers, apparently.
So this was entirely my bad.

Also, people try to cram the mayan calendar to match up with our roman calendar, plus having leap days also throws it off. but basically what im trying to say is that the day that was supposed to end the world happened a couple of months ago.

did you know that what the mayans predicted that will happen on dec 21 is true?? they predicted the alignment of the center of the galaxy aligning with the Earth and the Sun.

the only thing is, that happens every year. just thought you might be interested

Except that was the end of their calender overall, based on their religious beliefs that this world would end in order for the new one to be made.

Don't quote me on any of this, I read it on Wikipedia once like several months ago.

The Mayans believed that time was cyclical, not linear. So they had cycles of like 374 years on their calendar. They don't believe in Apocalypse per se, only a radical change of some kind every 374 years, which happens to be at the end of 2012.

Absolutely correct. Their cycle lasts 48 000 years. This is also the time taken for all the planets to be aligned.

Someone never took a history course.
The Spanish invaded the Aztec.
The Mayans "mysteriously" vanished years before Spanish even entered Americas

The Mayans weren't wiped out by the Spanish. That's the Aztecs retard. There are at least 88 competing theories about why the Mayan civilsation collapsed but none of them involve the Spanish. Wiki "Classic Maya collapse". Thumb down for you for historical inaccuracy.

Mayans didn't predict the end of the world, they just ran out of space on their rock, so it just means its the end of a cycle. Technically, the last day should be a huge New Years Party.

Why didn't they continue on another rock, you say? Well, why spend double the amount of effort for extending a calendar far past the time anyone you'll ever know and love is already dead?

It's time for history class bitches!
They did see them coming, the ghost Quetzalcoatl was predicted to come around the time the Spanish showed up. Quetzalcoatl was described as being a white ghost from the east. When the Spanish came, their leader was thought to be the eastern ghost. The only difference is that Quetzalcoatl was supposed to bring good luck and riches to the Mayans, but instead death and destruction came about.
