My personal impression of Manson is that he's a bit of a sophisticated nihilist. Or perhaps sort of a " **** the system and the world, live in the moment because nothing matters" guy, but I have admittedly only read a few interviews, so my impression is most likely skewed from the truth.

Maybe he's a great guy. I've also heard he's well spoken, witty and mostly earnest from multiple people, so I'm definitely going to do some more research.

That said, I would NOT base my opinion of a person on their appearance or role in a Michael Moore movie. The guy has been sued a multitude of times for lying on-screen about people and institutions, and he's a recognized hypocritical scumbag who will distort the truth to fit the narrative he wants to present. His smug and self-righteous face conjures unforgiving wrath deep inside me, so anything affiliated with him is immediately subject to skepticism and scrutiny on my part. But still - I will try to broaden my horizons on Marilyn Manson nonetheless.

He's also a very talented stage performer, as I saw him in SF at the Warfield not too long ago and it was kick ass.

User avatar #134 to #128 - trimageryan (05/12/2013) [-]
And that's a very noble venture.

Of course he'd lie on camera, that's kind of his job as a performer to use situations while in character, but for the most part his lies are simple hyperbole. Mainly I base my opinion on him not by the stories he tells but things like when he was asked "If you could say anything to the Columbine killers, what would it be?" he replied very earnest and simply "I wouldn't say anything to them, I'd listen to them because it seems like that was something no one ever did."

It's all an act
he treats almost all of them like **** , mostly new members
I think he got really used to hurting Ginger (The drummer) because he never fully complained about it, nor filed lawsuits
and he did stay in the band for quite awhile

User avatar #142 to #138 - Jameshaich (05/12/2013) [-]
Ginger only stayed because he want from being jobless to then being in a pretty big band.
Got this from a source, not sure how reliable
"An innocent bystander might wonder why Fish doesn’t just pack his gig bag and find another job? To this he responds by rote, as if he’s recited it a thousand times: “What else am I going to do? I was on unemployment, looking for a gig at the time when I joined the band. My unemployment ran out and I got the opportunity to join Manson. [And now that Manson’s attacking me onstage] everyone’s like, ’Just do another project.’ But there are a gazillion projects out there that aren’t selling out. Manson sells out every single night wherever we go. The band’s doing really well.”"
User avatar #144 to #142 - shesaidshewaslegal (05/12/2013) [-]
Whereas that may be true, it is still an act, maybe not an act I entirely think is right. Manson himself feels sorry for the bandmates and is actually quite sad to see them go, when they leave, he usually feels like they weren't truly part of the band. Talented, but not where they should be and he shouldn't have to force them to be that kind of person just for money and looks
User avatar #146 to #144 - Jameshaich (05/12/2013) [-]
Yeah, it might have been an act. But it was still pretty Unfair for Ginger who wasn't really in on it i guess. Understandable his intentions weren't to come off as a bit of a wanker, from an outside perspective giving your drummer a concussion and setting him on fire against his will is kinda dickish.
User avatar #147 to #146 - shesaidshewaslegal (05/12/2013) [-]
The night of nothing in 96' was their first tour on dead to the world, he had a lot of new band members that weren't aware of what the band did.
He just gets too caught up in it, but they doesn't want to come off as superior (which was usually why he let the audience spit on him). He always said the band wasn't performing for the audience and that Manson was watching the audience perform.
I still feel bad for ginger, but at least him and John are with Zombie now, getting paid just as much as before. They still have loads of respect for Manson, because they opened them up to a whole new level of thinking
User avatar #149 to #147 - Jameshaich (05/12/2013) [-]
Oh yeah, i love that Ginger is in a new band and there is no hard feelings between them. I think he understood it wasn't really personal.

Also, I just found out that DAR will play with "Lord Abbadon" on the Wacken Open Air. He´s a german Youtuber that is everything that´s wrong with Metal nowadays. Guess this was it for the Reiter, I´ll just hope that they´ll play an oldschool show before they turn completely to **** .
User avatar #90 to #89 - ljxjlos (05/12/2013) [-]
Die Reiter are genius. They´re latest record was a bit lame, though. I´m going to see them a 10th time this year but I still hope to see them doing an Oldschool-show once like they did at the Party.San Festival.

Wir sind Helden are nothing for me, tho, don´t know why, I just never heard a song of them that I actually liked...except for "gekommen um zu bleiben"
#92 to #90 - riefenstahl (05/12/2013) [-]
My favorite DAR song is definately "Eruption", their last albums aren't as good as Samurai and Riders on the Storm but anyway they sound awesome...

Wir sind Helden are softer but they sound alright to me. "Von hier an Blind" is my favourite song.

(Ich spreche ein bischen Deutsch)
User avatar #93 to #92 - ljxjlos (05/12/2013) [-]
The problem with DAR is that they are getting soft. I mean, I have absolutely no problem with soft music, I love some bands that can be described as softer than soft, but the appeal of DAR was their Harshness combined with great melodies and amazing refrains. And that got lost on the latest record. They even make their older songs softer sometimes on concerts.
User avatar #61 to #44 - willcutting (05/12/2013) [-]
I like In Extremo, they are really good, and Calejon, but it's something else. Still I agree, Rammstein isn't the best german band.

Not too much of a In Extremo-Fan, but Callejon are awesome, going to see them tour this year. But yeah, especially in the Metal/Rock area, we have genius musicians, but it´s always Rammstein that get hyped.D

In fact I know some, even funny band people hate but I find hilarious, like Eskimo callboy. Heaven Shall Burn is awesome and We Butter The Bread With Butter is the most epic german band to me. There is also War From a Harlot Mouth that I like. I think you guys have a really amazing core scene.
User avatar #71 to #65 - ljxjlos (05/12/2013) [-]
Eskimo Callboy are touring with Callejon this year, going to see them in Nuremberg. They´re amazingly funny. Saw them at the summerbreeze festival, I was in the middle of all the core-peaple in full-fledged thrash-metal attire and it was party as **** . Heaven shall burn are definitely top, too, seen them like 7 times and they get better everytime. (sorry, if this sounds like i´m bragging, I just say it to state my interest.D) Wbtbwb and WfaHm aren´t that great to me, though. You might try out Caliban, Akrea´s first record (melodeath metal, but a bit corely) , Narziss and His Statue Falls are cool, too, if you´re looking for german metalcore. I personally dig our Thrash/Death/Black Metal-scene, we got most of the best bands in these genres...
User avatar #76 to #71 - willcutting (05/12/2013) [-]
No guy I don't take that as bragging, I would be proud if some of the best core band were from my country too (I'm french) We have some but it's not as good as yours (Shoot the Girl First, A Call to Sincerity, As They Burn, Betraying the Martyrs, For Dying souls, The Bridal Procession) But even if I think some are really badass we aren't known for our core scene, much more for our ****** 80's music.
User avatar #77 to #76 - ljxjlos (05/12/2013) [-]

User avatar #82 to #81 - ljxjlos (05/12/2013) [-]
Hey, this is pretty cool. I like how the production isn´t that overdone as with most modern metalcore bands and the Singer/Screams reminds me of HSB a bit. The clear vocals are a bit too...well, I don´t know how to say it without it sounding hurtfull. I´d like them a tad harsher...other than that, pretty cool song!
User avatar #86 to #82 - willcutting (05/12/2013) [-]
We agree, I told my friend about the clear voice because I do not really like clear voice in this kind of song, I like my core just brutal. To me England stay the Best in Core, then Germany and Russia at the same point, USA and France last. I like how American songs sound but I think it's more about business than music itself for some bands.

Marilyn Manson uses a persona, a calculated and meticulous persona that sells record, it's avant-garde and demands attention, but he's a self-proclaimed athiest, he was given the title of "preacher of the faith" for a branch of satanism, but he didn't ask for it, and Manson largely ignored it and is adamant that he has never perused the faith. He's built to sell to people that are generally hard to sell to. Many of his mannerisms are strictly an act, and reading into that in an attempt to calculate intelligence is just asinine.

He's actually a shy guy, or so he says in an interview. What he does he perceives it as ultimate self-expression. It's art. His behavior is an act, and an outlet.
He is meant to be vulgar and in-your-face. That's the point. If it offends you then what he gets what he wants. He's not just doing it to be weird.

I hate when people say he got his lower ribs removed so that he could suck his own dick.
how retarded can you be?
i'm pretty sure that's not even a thing. we need our ribs.

A lot of women celebrities get them removed to have a smaller looking waist.
User avatar #23 to #17 - glassofmilk (05/12/2013) [-]
you can get the bottom ones (or floating ribs) removed
User avatar #21 to #17 - anonymoose (05/12/2013) [-]
You can do that. He didn't, but you can.

Technically the floating ribs are useless. Pretty much junk left by evolution. Like the apendix.

He used to be a genuinely awesome guy. He was likable, kind, and understanding of most people. He was supportive of people (Bowling for Columbine specifically, and general outcasts).

Now-a-days, he's reached a point where he's pretty much just a drugged up douchebag... I've seen him on recent music awards and he makes me disappointed.

Actually he is completely clean which caused him to gain weight and cause him to look like Nick Cage. Since he has stopped using drugs his music has gotten worse and his intelligence has actually lowered. I think him being off of drugs took away his inspiration. But he is not a drugged up douchebag. He is a guy that got off drugs and then became a douchebag and changed everything people loved about him.

He has his heart in the right place and I do like the whole point of his new album.
I think he just kinda executed it poorly, not to mention he's now relying more on tv shows and radio shows, more or less his music.

Seriously though I love Manson, he's one of the smartest people on Earth IMO.
User avatar #4 to #1 - glassofmilk (05/12/2013) [-]
didnt he get some ribs removed to blow his own dick?
User avatar #9 to #4 - anonymoose (05/12/2013) [-]
"If I really got my ribs removed, I would have been busy sucking my own dick on The Wonder Years instead of chasing Winnie Cooper." - Marilyn Manson.

[he's also joking about another rumour that he acted in The Wonder Years]
User avatar #5 to #4 - axb (05/12/2013) [-]
Not as far as I know. I can't imagine him needing to do that since he gets all the bitches.
User avatar #6 to #5 - glassofmilk (05/12/2013) [-]
thats just something ive been hearing for years and frankly, i wouldnt be surprised at all.

User avatar #8 to #6 - axb (05/12/2013) [-]

Him and Dita actually got divorced a while ago. '07 I think.

ahh, i don't pay too much attention.

Your ribs has nothing to do with it anyway. It's the flexibility of your spine and the length of your cock.
User avatar #27 to #26 - glassofmilk (05/12/2013) [-]
pretty sure itd be a lot easier without your bottom ribs getting in the way
User avatar #28 to #27 - corso (05/12/2013) [-]
It would actually be just as easier either way. Like I said, it's the flexibility that does it.

This sounds like a job for the...
User avatar #171 to #4 - thewaronbeingcool (05/12/2013) [-]
That rumour just gets passed around from famous person to famous person.
User avatar #181 to #171 - glassofmilk (05/12/2013) [-]
ive never heard about any other actor sucking his own dick after rib removal
User avatar #58 to #4 - curtkobain (05/12/2013) [-]
not true. That'd be a pretty ******* dangerous procedure imo.
User avatar #62 to #58 - glassofmilk (05/12/2013) [-]
nah a couple people have gotten it done
there was a post on fj a couple days ago about some girl that wanted to look like a barbie or something that had em removed
#156 to #62 - danniegurl (05/12/2013) [-]
this chick, Valeria Lukyanova.
I think it might have been misunderstood though, because i saw that interview. The woman was saying a person would have to get ribs removed to have barbie's actual waist. she didn't actually say that the girl had barbie's waist and must have had ribs removed.
the girl claims it's all makeup and photo editing and that she didn't have plastic surgery, but i don't really believe that.
