I've downloaded entire discographies only because i heard 1 good song. The rest turned out to be crap.

First time was a band called "swollen members" and just recently was "nightmares on wax".

I prefer the studio ones. Less crowd noise, more of the song

unless its a newer artist so they are lip-syncing anyways, so improvisation isn't likely lol

If a band sounds better on the CD than on stage, then they're not that good.

I agree. Some bands I like sound really good on cd but then when I go to see them I'm extremely let down. I always give them a second chance but only a couple have been able to redeem them selves.

Because yelling fans, lack of quality recording equipment and the chance of bad acoustics have absolutely no affect on how a band sounds. Every band will always sound better when taped in a studio.

I'm not talking about bootlegs here. Live recordings are a thing, bootlegs are another. I don't mind fans screaming on the live recordings - it makes it real, it tells me those people right there were living it like I would've had if I'd been there. I don't mind the "bad acoustics", I don't mind about voice breaks or snapped guitar strings or out of key instruments, that's all part of the game.
If you want to make it out as a good musician/band you NEED to sound better on stage.
It's just another definition of "better".
Maybe you like your music polished and overproduced, but you can't possibly believe that musicians like Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, The White Stripes or The Black Keys don't sound better live, wether you're there, or at home listening - not to a bootleg - but to a professional live record.

It isn't only a matter of sound quality. One can be very happy with an awful bootleg recording of a great live.

I don't know man, sometimes the live version of a song is better than the studio version. I actually prefer the Live version of Fear of the Dark to the studio one.
