Calling Marines Soldiers is like calling a Japanese person a Korean. They may look the same to you, but it's completely different and is guaranteed to piss them off.

Guess who signs their checks.
Only relevant navy-ish picture

Yep. One of my favorite ways to bust my Marine buddy's balls it to tell him that.

Anyone would get pissed off if they were related to the Japs.

Seriously, how would you feel if you were related to a group of autistic kids?

I've been telling people for a while now it's the radiation. I mean, how else do you explain this?

That makes sense because they were actually cool before the atomic bombs.

May I ask why? We don't have marines in New Zealand so I'm quite oblivious.

Calling us Chariot archers soldiers is like calling a Babylonian a Libyan. They may look the same to you, but it is completely different and is guaranteed to raise Anubis' wrath.

That's beautiful.

"A soldier is one who fights as part of an organized land-based armed force"
Marines are soldiers.
#82 to #57 - anon (07/21/2013) [-]
Marines aren't traditionally land-based, they're amphibious, thus marines.
User avatar #73 to #57 - ishalltroll (07/21/2013) [-]
Well, no. Marines are Marines.

Thats what happens when retarded amuricans start to invent stupid terms etc.Everywhere in the world a person in military service does not matter his branch can be called soldier but meanwhile in glorious murica only the army branch is "soldiers"

You know, I always call you guys Army bitches but really, we're all service members and it's not that big of deal. We've all given everything to serve our country and were all willing to give the ultimate sacrifice.

So thank you, Soldier.

Yeah, it's all just joking around, really. Like how brothers and sisters fight.

User avatar #9 to #3 - jeengak (07/21/2013) [-]
i dont get why calling them soldiers would piss them off? my understanding of the word "soldier" applies to anyone who is in the army and the word "marines" is a division within the army. I would love to be cleared up of any misunderstanding Thx
#10 to #9 - monkeybrains ONLINE (07/21/2013) [-]
The Army and Marines are two completely different branches. No relation between the two division wise. Soldier is the term for someone in the Army and Marine is the term for someone in the Marine Corps. The closest you would be is that the Marines and Navy work essentially hand-in-hand. I'm a Soldier so I don't know anything more than the basics when it comes to the Marine/Navy dynamic.
User avatar #11 to #10 - jeengak (07/21/2013) [-]
I see, i always thought you would start off as a regular soldier then receive more training to become a marine. Thanks for clearing that up!
User avatar #14 to #11 - thegraypist ONLINE (07/21/2013) [-]
The army and marines go through separate training. The reason it will piss off marines when called soldiers is because there has always been kind of a rivalry between the army and the marine corps. Marines will call army pussies and the army will call the marines a bunch of dumb grunts. It's fun and friendly.
User avatar #16 to #14 - jellykuba ONLINE (07/21/2013) [-]
To my experience the marines and soldiers I talked to didn't much care what they were called, the ones that did were generally known as the dick heads by their respective branches. The one thing I did learn is never call a marine a boot unless you want to get your ass kicked.
User avatar #18 to #16 - thegraypist ONLINE (07/21/2013) [-]
Ha yeah that's one thing that will piss them off. I'm still in my school in the Marine Corps and I get called a boot once in a while by higher ranks. It doesn't really bother me. Not that I could do anything about it as a PFC anyway.
User avatar #21 to #18 - vatra (07/21/2013) [-]
To be fair if you are still in the training, you ARE a boot.
User avatar #22 to #21 - thegraypist ONLINE (07/21/2013) [-]
For the most part, yeah.
User avatar #23 to #22 - vatra (07/21/2013) [-]
Anyone that hasn't been shipped off yet is unquestionably a boot, after that, only saltys have the right to call you that.
#20 to #18 - jellykuba ONLINE (07/21/2013) [-]
Here's to you getting lucky in fleet and not getting a dumb as hell Lieutenant that has spent less time in the corps then you have in paygrade.
