I like it when actors improvise things, instead of just reading the script. The same with Neil Flynn (Janitor). The majority of Janitor's lines are completely improvised by Neil Flynn.

Can somebody please post the gif of Leonardo Dicaprio in the movie Django wiping his improvised cut hand on the girl, and put the words "Do I get an oscar now?" I

The best character in the show was the only one without a script. Not sure if it means he was a great actor or that the scriptwriter sucked. Possibly both.
User avatar #26 - thelastelephant ONLINE (10/04/2013) [-]
It's like they've never heard of improvisation. Actors do it all the time, although there are a few outstanding circumstances of unintended improv.

Case in point: Viggo Mortensen breaks his toe in LOTR
User avatar #37 to #26 - schneidend (10/04/2013) [-]
Everybody knows what improv is, they just didn't realize this particular bit was improv'd.
User avatar #40 to #37 - thelastelephant ONLINE (10/04/2013) [-]
And they could've shortened a paragraph into a sentence with one word by say "This was improvised" instead of "RDJ hid **** on the set."

The man is still a world-class actor in my eyes.
#52 to #40 - danlathegreat (10/05/2013) [-]
that defeats the point of an anecdote. Sure, they could have said "RDJ is good at improvising", but that gives so much less insight into him as a character. He wasn't just improvising, he gave the director/production staff/other actors a big **** you; turning his desire for food and his lack of **** giving into a character choice, and that's just much more hilarious.

But what if he actually did hide food all over the set?
User avatar #45 to #26 - newforomador (10/05/2013) [-]
Another one I heard about was Leonardo Di Caprio in Django Unchained. When he shattered the glass, it actually cut up his hand and he had to get stitches, but he continued doing the scene. Although, that's not really improv as much as Leonardo being awesome.

I ******* hate these kinds of posts. I cringe every time I hear someone say something like "He was actually just hungry". It's called improvising. The ability to improvise is as basic to an actor as the ability to tune a guitar is to a guitarist. It's pretty funny that he kept food lying around, but jesus **** , it's not that crazy. If people who are amazed by these kind of stories went to an improv theater, they would probably die from over-excitement.

theater that's improvised.
User avatar #59 to #7 - harrisonfordor (10/05/2013) [-]
Improv helps make the character seem more natural and it can help with the atmosphere of the scene, very common in movie-making. Though I do agree, I can see why people who have no knowledge on acting/improv would be impressed by scenes such as this.
#70 to #7 - Rascal (10/05/2013) [-]
when you use the words "It's pretty funny" on a website called funnyjunk that's a huge compliment

To be honest, I get kinda amazed when people tune a guitar.
User avatar #31 to #7 - thesinful (10/04/2013) [-]
The best lines/parts of a movie are always improvised or at least not scripted. The "You know how I know you're gay" scene from 40 Year Old Virgin, R. Lee Ermey's entire chracter in Full Metal Jacket, quite a bit from Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets (Tom Felton's "I didn't know you could read", Jamie Waylett participating in the slow clap only to get pulled down, Jason Isaacs' and Daniel Radcliffe's exchange "Let us hope that Mr. Potter will always be around to save the day." "Don't worry. I will be."), and Mortensen deflecting a thrown knife with his sword.

Oh and of course Indiana Jones shooting the sword guy

User avatar #56 to #31 - kerfufflemachtwo (10/05/2013) [-]
Also "Here's Johnny!" from The Shining. And at least one scene from "When Harry Met Sally" was just Billy Crystal making up stuff, and Meg Ryan actually looks at the director, wondering if she should keep going.
User avatar #63 to #56 - thesinful (10/05/2013) [-]
Well there are a metric ******* . I just used the ones I'm most familiar with. For example, Robert DeNiro's "You talking to me?" routine.
User avatar #46 to #31 - thegoodgatsby (10/05/2013) [-]
There's a difference between improvisation and a change in script, like Indiana Jones and Full Metal Jacket were.
User avatar #50 to #46 - thesinful (10/05/2013) [-]
There's been several stories about the Indiana Jones one. One is that he had diarrhea, another is a schedule conflict, and a 3rd was that he improved it after a take where they had a sword fight.
User avatar #51 to #50 - thegoodgatsby (10/05/2013) [-]
The true one is dysentery (an extreme form of diarrhea), so the writers changed the scene
User avatar #87 to #7 - tehweave (10/05/2013) [-]
Personally, I'm amazed by improvisation. I do improv all the time and its HARD. To see an actor pull off good improv that makes it to the final movie is quite amazing by my standards.
User avatar #36 to #7 - schneidend (10/04/2013) [-]
I think it's more that it was not part of the movie and they let RDJ do it that excites people, not the fact that it is improved. People know what improv is, but they are often unaware of how commonly it is used in big movies.
User avatar #43 to #7 - greenstrongworld (10/04/2013) [-]

Except that there is a difference between improvising (doing things you think your character would do) and doing things just because you want to (like eating snacks mid scene cause you can't wait five minutes). While it's safe to say that Tony Stark would just do whatever the **** he wanted (so it's not far off from improvising), eating is different because they have to meticulously clean the costumes every time they're worn when eating, and it's annoying for the prop department, and you can end up with **** on set when it's not supposed to be or lines getting garbled by food over and over again. Michael Gambon did **** like this with Harry Potter and got into trouble with the prop department so he fed bits of crisps into the beard to piss them off
#48 to #15 - worried (10/05/2013) [-]
but if you are eating and your line comes up, then you would finish swallowing thats what she said before answering...
