The original Greek god Hades kidnapped a virgin girl and forced her to be his wife. Seriously, didn't even try to seduce her. He just picked her up and carried her off. Since Hades is also the god of wealth, he was able to give her so much jewelry that Aphrodite (who had a husband who would make her jewelry) would've been ******* jealous. That didn't matter to his wife. She was miserable and missing her mother.
#8 to #3 - anon (04/16/2013) [-]
He tried to trick her into eating a dead fruit, the pomegranate, but she only ate 6 seeds. Her mother was the goddess of the harvest or something like that, and she missed her daughter so much that she made it snow and cold on earth, which killed the crops. Since this was killing people, Zeus went down there to get the daughter back. But since she had eat the seeds, technically she should stay there for all eternity. Zeus, feeling bad for the humans, made a deal that she had to live there for 6 months, on for each seed that she ate. This is why we have seasons. When the 6 months are up, the mother is so happy that the land starts to get hospitable again. But when its time to go back, the mother starts to get sad again, so the land freezes over.

I'm rather proud that I actually knew that. I love mythology. Especially Greek mythology.

Me too! :)
My mom had me watching Hercules and Xena when I was little. As inaccurate as those shows were with Greek Mythology, I was able to point out how inaccurate the Disney version was. Still, Disney Hades was the best character in the film. He's not insane. His goals make sense. He's funny. He's also voiced by James Woods. LOL! xD

I'd give you a cookie for your knowledge, but I have none. Have this keystroke-made boob pic instead. (.Y.)
Thanks for the knowledge!
Did you guys know that Disney did make a Hades/Persephone short cartoon back in the 1930s?
User avatar #19 to #18 - kikisu (04/17/2013) [-]
Awe, thanks! I love mythology and used to read all about it.
#21 to #19 - anon (04/17/2013) [-]
Me too! I read the Roman version of the myth in a children's book. (watered down and less sex and violence) I love how the artist drew Proserpine (Persephone). Damn she was hot. A sweet face with wide eyes, long bouncy reddish hair. A graceful figure. Awww so hot! Pluto (Hades) looked kind of weak, though.
User avatar #22 to #21 - kikisu (04/17/2013) [-]
Ahhh. I had this big book that was like 6 inches thick with myths from all regions of the world. I used to read that all the time.

Cool! xD
User avatar #26 to #3 - darman (04/17/2013) [-]
Not as bad as Jove, who turned into a swan and raped a mortal woman. I would rank that a fair bit above Pluto.
#59 to #26 - anon (04/17/2013) [-]
Above? Do you mean you approve of the swan rape and consider it better than kidnapping and forced marriage?
#4 to #3 - anon (04/16/2013) [-]
*** oh, in case I forgot to mention, the virgin girl he kidnapped was also a goddess.
#10 to #4 - hillbillypowpow (04/16/2013) [-]
He's still the nicest of the greek gods.

"Hey Hades, can I have my wife back?"
"Sure budy! I can't believe you made it! How bout a wrestle before you go? Man it's lonely down here. Hey, you hungry? Ahhh, don't worry, if eat you won't be stuck here. That was just a joke she took way too seriously. Still, I don't mind none. *nudgenudge"
Hades, the original bro
#15 to #10 - anon (04/17/2013) [-]
Agreed. Compared to his youngest brother, Zeus, he's pretty nice. Even though the story of Hades and his wife Persephone is called, "The Rape of Persephone," Zeus is a major rapist while it's not exactly proven if Hades physically raped his wife. See, back then, the word for rape and steal was the same. Persephone was "stolen" by Hades. In some versions of the myth, Persephone grows to love Hades. Hades was sometimes a dick, but overall a nice guy.

Yep. Persephone. She was also called Kore, and the Iron Queen. Even though Persephone was possibly the most innocent and blameless of the goddesses, the Greeks were afraid to speak her name out loud at times, as they were of her husband, because of the attachment to death. :( But, she was also the goddess of reincarnation, and I've read the was possibly the only goddess with beauty to match Aphrodite.

I'm taking a class in gender and sexuality in ancient Greece. At that time, that constituted a marriage.
#20 to #12 - anon (04/17/2013) [-]
I've read a lot of daughters were married off to their uncles. Hades was technically Persephone's uncle, by bother her parents! Zeus and Demeter (Persephone's mother) were siblings, and also siblings of Hades. WINCEST ALL AROUND!!!! Keep in mind, the gods were supposed to be very beautiful and handsome, except poor Hephaestus.

I'd strongly recommend watching it and then perhaps you'll add another character to that list.

It's definitely in my top 3 movies ever made, but be warned, it's not light viewing. It's quite brutal, psychologically heavy, and well over 3 hours long.

Or you could give me the finger and move on. That's cool too. Just a recommendation.
