I think it's good that he put cured in quotations. It's so people here don't get their hopes up in thinking the virus itself was 100% cured, like the last post that said one child was cured of HIV

HIV is like herpes, you can never really call it cured, per se (at least with the current state of the art medicine), because it's a lysogenic virus and stays in the host cells. It just falls below dangerous levels.

The new treatment is basically the same as what we've been using (antivirals) -- just more of them and earlier use. The virus isn't gone from the body, just crippled so the risk of developing AIDS is essentially zero.

In case anyone was wondering.

It's because they've developed a new antiretroviral prevention protocol. It basically sucker punches the virus before it sets up shop, "functionally" curing it. Who knows for how long though.

The HIV one reminds me of Cave Johnson. "We've 'cured' 14 adults of HIV. And by 'cured' I mean we've killed them, but on the bright side they're no longer afflicted by such a horrible disease as HIV."

they're figuring out which higgs boson it is.

there could be up to five different exotic higgs particles.

all we know so far is that this particle has 0 spin, which means it's most likely the higgs boson

The brain scans were able to find the brain activity that represents fictitious people described by the scientists for the subjects to imagine. It is in fact amazing that the scientists were able to recognize which fictitious person was being imagined, but they were only represented by their dominate personality traits. They cannot, therefore, know exactly who you are thinking about, they only know how brains fire in descriptions of people. Furthermore, they scientists used very negative and positive languages instead of neutral, subjective descriptions. They used words like "cold" or "friendly." These, of course, will each be stereotyped differently by different people. I don't see this test working when expanded to real human beings we are related with, because real human beings are much more "round" to use a literary term and not just flat, stereotypical characters. Writers have already known about these findings for decades, and that is why they are so careful about word choice.

In related news, early birds also got the worm.
