Because Astronomy is a greek word , means STAR (Astro)- LAW (nomos).
Also corny jokes werent funny back then .

Corny jokes were the rage back then. Just read Plautus.

Peniculus: Hello!
Manaechmus: Who is that?
Peniculus: It's me
Manaechmus: Oh, greetings!
Peniculus: What are you doing?
Manaechmus: Shaking your hand

That's from the Manaechmi. Tons of corny little jokes like that. Even names are jokes, Peniculus is a diminutive form of the word Penis. And yes. There are a ridiculous amount of jokes about it if you're looking. And Plautus was one of the best comedians of the time

It was Joseph Henri Honoré Boex. Some dumb Belgian science fiction writer. He invented the word in 1927 under the pen name J.H. Rosny

I realise how awesome it sounds but everyone will think you're an idiot who can't say scientist properly.
Yes I tried this one out, yes they made fun of me...

Nobody? It's what that means in Latin (to some degree at least.)

"idiot" isn't the right word.

The words Science and Scientist were not properly coined untill mid-1700's

And when it was suggested to rename certain areas of natural philosophy to science, one response was: "The word scientist is about as appealing as arsonist".

Not to mention that sky is anglish and science is latin, so that kind of stuff wasn't likely to be used.

Don't forget asteroids and hemorrhoids should be switched.

I'm an astrophysics enthusiast and I set up the telescopes for my astronomy club, so coming from someone interested in the area I honestly would hate to be called a skyentist.
