the change from a solid to a liquid wouldn't be that dramatic, it would take time to go from one state of mater to the next, that and as some one whos taken classes on animation.... its fake....

It looks like they skipped a whole set of frames, probably around 11 since this gif is about 14 fps.

mercury doesn't lie flat when in liquid state, its surface tension is way too high
