I work at FedEx, and the "correct" way to pack something is to make it so safe that it will survive a drop of 1 meter.
And us couriers at FedEx takes this to mean "It will survive being thrown into the car, as long as it's never more than 1 meter above the ground".

I work at UPS, we have a similar rule. I work in the package service center (read, the box is torn so send it to me) where we have stacks and stacks and stacks of double corrugated boxes. They're basically bullet proof. Also, it's good to see one of my arch nemesis on the sight.
