Who knows? But for all we know this man might not love what he has created because maybe he has been forced to neglect his children because of the huge responsibility of running microsoft.. Maybe he would meet a man who had a comfortable income who could easily support his family but he would have much more time with his kids. Oh man this is good weed.

This is an interesting concept. No matter what path we take in life, there is an alternative. Each alternative is not necessaries better or worse simply different. It is also human nature to want what we cannot have. A rich business men may wish he had spent more time making friends or raising a family. A popular man may wish he had accumulated more wealth. It is an impossibility to experence everything, but that is human essence.

If we live a life with regrets all the way to the end, is there even a point of living?
C'mon, if you want that goddamn twinkie you just eat it and not feel bad about it. (unless you got diabeetes.)

Given the million possible ways your life can turn out, there would be issue in which "person you could have become" you meet. Is it "the best one"? What makes one possibility better over another? Wealth? Sex? Your level of happiness?

All you'd have to do then is live your life without regrets and no matter who you meet at the end, they'll have no grounds to hold anything over you.

User avatar #147 to #143 - lolollo (03/08/2013) [-]
Just thought of something:

OK so "the best one" is based off of your own perception of what are "the best qualities". Given that this is usually based off of what you don't have, but want, this just goes back to living without regret. My high school coach told us that the key to happiness is to just do what makes you happy (he had 2 cars to himself on a teachers salary. He's working to pay them off, which set him back a bit, but they made him happy so he didn't care.) People still berate him about it. "It's a waste of money."

I'm guessing if someone like him meets his "person he could've become" he probably wouldn't give two ***** , despite society telling him he's "doing it wrong". So then is it society who tells us this criteria, or our own person? it's probably our own person, but then the flaw in that is that every arrogant douchebag/asshole you meet, who you think should go to hell, would be completely unaffected by it, because they're not the type to have regrets.

So maybe with that your hell theory doesn't really work...

Well, I think this is ******** .

At least for me living by restrictions is not living at all. I'd rather suffer the consequences of my mistakes. How do expect me to know what regret feels like if I never did anything that I regret? How can I possibly know what things are gonna make me regret doing them?

All I see in that picture is some guy chasing a model society imposed him. It pretty much beacons: "This is how happiness looks like. Be like that or you won't be happy!". Newsflash: we are not the same. In fact, we are all as different as we can be. Blindly chasing an ideal of how we should look and what we should do is plain stupid.

What I won't do is sit around letting people tell me how to live my life.
User avatar #107 to #100 - enorus (03/08/2013) [-]
The point of the image isn't "you should look like a model". It's easy being a lazy cunt but in the end it will give you nothing.
User avatar #127 to #107 - teseus (03/08/2013) [-]
You missed my point. I did not said you have to look like a model. I was talking about models in general. Like personality traits as well.

I don't think I have too many regrets in my life thus far. It's only been a couple of decades and I know I faced some very severe, extenuating trials that have greatly altered the course of my life. I know I could've been different. I could've been healthier, more succesful, heck, I could've even been happier than I am right now.
If someone offered me a choice, I don't know if I'd want to go back. I found so many silver linings. I've become a model and an inspiration of hope to so many families, people whom I've never before met but found themselves relying on me and my story. I helped children lead normal lives when I can't yet have that luxury.
I could meet my person who's more collected than I, doing exactly what I imagined I'd be doing but that person would have to look at me. I'm tired now, my biggest dream is to just function in society like anyone else. I'm sick and beaten but because of my trials, I'm writing a book series, something I know successful me would've never done. My story is appearing in Italy and I was in a documentary in Japan, I've spoken to senators. I'm idealized by children and respected by parents. I'm doing everything I can for them. I want them to have the life that was ripped from me. I spent my last year saving and protecting children. If I can get the kids to have a better life than me then I'll have a life well spent.
I wish it wasn't me people looked to for guidance or counseling. I was just thrown in and did what I thought was best. More than anything I want to off myself. It's such a tempting thought. To just rest forever but no one will be there to guide the kids so I remain.
I think my other being lead and easy and successful life and everything came without a trial.
My life will be rife with conflict, negative feels and hopelessness but I will also have families who look up to me as I work to get everything back to normal.
I think both lives will be lead happy ones in the end, just different.
