I really got to admit, that made me laugh.
Sure it is junk, and dammit i feel bad for that boy, but this is FUNNYjunk.

It's a shame soldiers have to die, but we could vote differently so we didn't have to go to war.

As a Canadian Soldier, and after losing four of my friends in the conflict in Afghanistan, I just got a crazy amount of feels from this post. I remember seeing their flagged draped coffins being carried into the C-130. I only wish I could have been at the highway of heroes, just to see them finally come home, but sadly there was still a war to fight.
They gave their lives to protect the citizens of these faraway lands, and for those back home. I pray for their souls and their families.

As an American Jew, when I went to israel for the frst time I visited the military cemetery. Therein lay a tombstone of a 17 year old paratrooper.

I thought of my brother, a Sailor in the US Navy. My cousin, a military policeman in the army, of my friends back where I am training to be a merchant marine officer, some of whom are going through ROTC to become officers in the Navy or Marine Corps... I am 19. that stone could have belonged to any of them, or even myself. and it gave me such feels I had to sit down and think. Pro military or not, we all need to thank the men and women who sacrifice their lives for our freedoms, wherever we live.
User avatar #354 to #12 - lordtrolldemort (06/11/2012) [-]
I'm from Australia but I just want to say thank you for risking your life fighting for Canada's freedom and quite possibly the USA'S freedom and Australia's
(sorry if I messed up this comment or said something offending i just had no idea what to say apart from thank you )
User avatar #829 to #354 - lasmamoe (06/11/2012) [-]
NO ! JUST NO!!

IM SORRY BUT NO ******* FREEDOM IS BEING FOUGHT FOR!

It's all I ever hear.. "They kill people so we can be safe"

What is the great danger you fear? Who wants to take away your freedom? and please PLEASE do not say "Terrorists"
User avatar #1055 to #829 - costlyphoenix (06/17/2012) [-]
In Afghanistan, the main priority of the Canadian forces was to secure Independence for the Afghan people. We do this in combating the Taliban, and when you secure sectors of Taliban control, then you can provide freedom. Thanks to Coalition soldiers in Afghanistan, children are now back to school, woman have the right to vote and we are in the beginning stages of re-establishing government to a hostile region. So the next time a uneducated piece of **** like you comments on a post that isn't mine with your uneducated "Educated" opinion hoping that I wont see it because no red arrow appears on my screen, think again.
User avatar #1056 to #1055 - lasmamoe (06/17/2012) [-]
Who are you to call me uneducated?

I could say the same to you, but I do not need to attack someone to make myself seem right.

We clearly have different opinions about the effectiveness of war, but you do not have the right to call me an uneducated piece of **** . That is not how you argue with someone.

I dont think i will change your view on soldiers by this post, but try searching for "Confessions of an economic hitman - Part 1" on youtube.. I dont think this will change your view, but will hopefully make you reconsider why we are in wars all the time.
User avatar #1057 to #1056 - costlyphoenix (06/17/2012) [-]
I call you uneducated for the reasons that

1. I have been over there, and I see the effect that we have on the people over there, and that we have restored their personal rights and freedoms that have been taken away from them.
2. You're clearly blinded by Anti-War propaganda.
3. Confessions of an Economic Hitman has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MISSION IN AFGHANISTAN...It deals with the economic state of foreign nations like Iraq, and even then his views on foreign economics are largely false.
4. If we never entered a conflict with the Taliban, I can assure you that more terrorist strikes against foreign nations would be more common, we are fighting for freedom of our own citizens as well as the citizens of foreign nations. We are fighting for the freedom of security of our own nations people.

My grandpa, who was a WW2 vet, recently died, along with my grandma, his wife. We looked through all his stuff from the war, and the letters he sent my grandma about how he missed her, and just reading a few sentences makes me start bawling, I have yet to make it through a whole letter without crying. I miss my grandparents. I feel for him.

Aw bro, Thats really sad. I feel for you. I wouldnt stop crying at the funeral because everytime i looked inside the casket at my grandma, it looked like she was sleeping, and it took me back to sneaking into her room on christmas morning, and waking both of them up to go open presents. My little cousin kept saying "Theres grandma! is she sleeping?" and I counldnt say anything back, all i could do was cry.

yea, its been rough for my family, specially my mom (Because it was her parents). I've been dealing with it better, but it still hurts to think about and I still cry when I think about how much I miss then and when i think of all the fun times i had with them. Least they're together and happy and at peace with no pain. That makes me smile.
