So, for you who don't think this is a big deal, in Bosnia (Croatia, Serbia) this really is. Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia waged war once, and it was brutal and long. After the war, people hated each other. We still live together, but most people can't stand the other nation. A relationship of different nationality and/or religion is unacceptable in most families. And now, finally someone stood up and said "No" to nationality and discrimination. I am happy finally someone did it. My faith in humanity has been finally restored.

It's a pretty big deal, for anyone interested, there's a really nice biography on the subject called A Serbian Film.

I heard a lot about that from my friends. It's a really nice film from what they said. I regret never getting to see it though.

Isn't that the one where it depicts how they both met and how they are living their lives now?
All's well that ends well.

Zivijo drug Tito.. Zivjela stara Jugoslavija.. ako ne na mapi.. onda u srcu! To hell with nationalism! It's what destroyed our country! Everything I came back home around Croatia and Serbia.. people have been good to one another.. like nothing happened.. I was born in Split, Croatia.. mom was from Jamena, Serbia.. I was discriminated in NORTH AMERICA by traitors who ran away because my father was a Cro and my mother a Serb. I came back home every now and then to both places.. everything is good.. but Zagreb and Beograd... a **** fest full of nationalists.. by the way.. in Split.. there still is a pretty clear fight going on between fascism and communist.. you see the symbols everywhere. I pray that the soccer game on the 22nd goes well... Long live our old Yugoslavia!

Are you/they in Croatia or Bosnia? Were they when they married?

I feel like it's the publicity of this that's really doing it. The highly public nature of it all
User avatar #44 to #17 - Antiquisition (03/13/2013) [-]
I'm not in Croatia/Bosnia, but nearly my whole family is...
Could be, that the publicity does it, but my whole family (and the people in the villages they live in) know it, and nobody ever had any problems with it.

btw
I know that there are many people in former Yugoslavia who hate each other for their nationality or religion, i just wanted to say, that those people the picture's about aren't the first who've done this...
