That outlook on life is exactly why he committed suicide. I know there was a lot more to it, but that definitely contributed.

True, perspective can greatly affect your experience in life. Life also gives us all the opportunity to enjoy all the beautiful wonders the world has to offer.

Why does everyone crie evertim about Kurt Cobain but refer to every other suicide as a waste of life and talent and make fun of it?

I'm strapping myself in for this one.
#67 to #51 - Glitched (05/18/2013) [-]
Suicide is never the option.

Kurt's excuse (or really most of his fans excuse for him) is he was in constant agony.
He chose to do the drugs that put him in agony.

His own fault. Such a waste. Really liked his music.

#73 to #51 - vahid (05/18/2013) [-]
Here, let me educate you.

Kurt, in the eyes of many, especially funnyjunkers in this case, were fond of Kurt and his achievements. His loss was a big one. He made good music and is now gone.

On the other hand people like Amanda Todd are just wasteless little ***** , never having contributed to anything at all. Her death is just not that tragic to many.

Would you cry if your mother died or some guy you do not know?

Amanda Todd was in 7th grade and made a mistake that ruined her entire life, so she was bullied to death. Calling her a wasteless little **** is a little far.

I've been watching Daria recently, and it's a really good show, and it also gives the best explanation for this. When someone famous dies, people aren't sad because that person died. But they are sad because they are reminded of death and that they will die one day too, and as such they mourn famous people for their death, regardless of why, who, and under some circumstances (not all) how.

Man that was depressing. Here look at this funny picture

I don't get why Cobain gets so much recognition for his death. He killed himself, Stevie Ray Vaughan died in a goddamn helicopter crash and no one ever talks about him. Almost all of Lynyrd Skynyrd died in a plane crash. Randy Rhoads died in a plane crash. Jeff Hanneman died from flesh eating disease, but Cobain is the one looked at as a saint. There have been way more tragic and unfortunate deaths in rock music. I know I'll get red thumbs for stating my opinion, but I just find it off how an avoidable death is more cared about then freak accident deaths or illness related deaths of popular musicians.
User avatar #129 to #125 - lexausaurusrex (05/19/2013) [-]
While your argument is very valid and nice, kurt cobain receive that attention because his music was touching to his fan, and the media overblew it since they love suicide drama. But all the other artist get their share of love on their death from all the fans out there ! Except rappers 'cause they ain't artists ....

Kurt Cobain killed himself because didn't want to be famous or become a sellout.

He also hated his wife who actually now owns all of Nirvanas copyrights and uses them to make new CD's with old songs and all those T-shirts and things at Hot Topic and F.Y.E.
User avatar #159 to #148 - GnRNoD (05/19/2013) [-]
He killed himself because
he had terrible stomach pains which he could only calm with his increasing heroin addiction, and he hated himself while being on heroin which happend to be most of the time.
He hated being famous because he was very controversial and he couldn't have his privacy and didn't want his daughter to loose her private life.
He loved courtney and he hated himself for loving her in spite of all the **** she pulled, he almost had her sent to an institution several times because she would use drugs during pregnancy and lactating stage.
He felt he was a burden for those that really loved him, because of his drug addiction and courtney.
and last but not least he was completly high he had twice and half the ammount of heroin someone his size could handle in his body, his long history with the drug made him more ressilient (sp?) to it, also it kept increasing to stop the stomach pain which he blamed his mother for as it started when he was very young because she stressed him so ******* much being a ****** mother.

User avatar #161 to #125 - ICEDgrunge (05/19/2013) [-]
The dominant generation that inhabits the internet is also the generation that most fondly remembers the death of Kurt Cobain. They may not have been old enough to experience the death of Vaughan, or Skynyrd, or Rhoads, but they did to Kurt, and Kurt changed so much for so many people in their time, and that's why he's burnt so heavily into their minds. I'm not saying he's better or worse than any of them, I'm not even going there, but I think Rhoads was a much greater loss than Kurt, even though I grieve Kurt's death much harder, as his music had a stronger impact on me. All in all, the recognition he gained was again, just how he got famous, the right place, right time. He killed himself right as the correct generation was getting older, and that generation is mainly the prevalent one here.
#143 to #125 - srvhendrix (05/19/2013) [-]
I'm kinda missing the point here but Stevie Ray Vaughan and Randy Rhoads are ******* badass.

I asked my friend the exact same thing yesterday. I mean don't get me wrong, I really do love Nirvana but he did take the easy way out. Anyway, my friend is reading his biography and has done quite a bit of research into who Kurt was and he told me that he was the young tragic hero. He was the guy all the outcasts, loners, and depressed could relate to and feel comfortable with. Seeing old interviews of him myself, I felt oddly close to him, like I understood what he meant and who he was, and I could relate to him. He really was the tragic hero, and his life was full of sadness and pain and I think he just couldn't handle it anymore.

simple , kurt cobain was the voice of generation x , he gave meaning to a whole generation of people from the 90's , he created grunge , his music was a punch of emotion , was everything , heavy metal from the 80's wasnt , thats why bands like guns n' roses , metallica and etc hated nirvana , Alice in chains and grunge in general, You mention alot of important people to the Rock/Metal gerne, but people like john lennon and kurt cobain will always be the greatest , cause they revolutionized generations and made music from the heart , thats why kurt cobain was so important , he cared about the music not about the money , which just about 99% of bands were after , he hated how mainstream nirvana had gone which is why he started using the grunge is dead t shrits , and finally he used heroin because doctors have found that he had some sort of weird cancer in his stomach which they could not treat , his life was rough just listen to Something in the way , his started using heroin cause of that pain in his stomach , he hated using it and he reached a point were he could not go on anymore , i dont ask you to justify him , just understand him, listen to his music and you will eventually change the way you think of him, he was and always will be a legend and deserves it , he made music better , never soldout and keep in mind i like heavy stuff alot but soft music like nirvanas was the best to the point it inspired many bands like Seether,Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin etc, hope you understand and good day

You know what annoys me? When people refer to a suicide like it wasn't a suicide.

"It's been 20 years since the tragic death of 'insert name here' " Yeah, but they killed themself. I don't mind if you called it tragic and say it wasn't their fault but a suicide's a suicide so call it one.

(I know this post didn't do this but it just came to mind)
User avatar #114 to #112 - zorororonoa (05/19/2013) [-]
We may get red thumbs, but I agree. I don't really have pity on people who commit suicide. There are millions of other people going through way worse stuff than you, so man up and deal with your life rather than killing yourself. It ends up hurting everyone you loved.
User avatar #136 to #114 - condormcninja (05/19/2013) [-]
...you know how depression works right? It's a chemical imbalance in the brain that makes them feel bad enough that sometimes they kill themselves. They feel like they're the most miserable person in the world and it's totally justified and suicide seems the only option.

There's been times when I've understood exactly what the thought process behind suicide is. I wouldn't want to kill myself, but I've wanted to be done with life so many times and wished there could be an accident or something.
User avatar #169 to #136 - zorororonoa (05/19/2013) [-]
Yeah, I know, and I wasn't saying don't have sympathy. I think it is terrible when someone commits suicide too, I just don't really pity them.

On the bright side, at least he's not hurting anymore.

I am an agnostic, I like to draw from science and experience.

A number of people have died and were resurrected by doctors, and they all described a similar experience. They said they floated up above their bodies and felt an overwhelming feeling of peace.

It could just be the brain making up for the trauma, but still, dying ain't so bad, especially for people already suffering

Yeah, it's a DMT trip. When you die, your body goes into a 7 minute hallucinogenic state. For those who don't know what DMT is, it's the drug that is released while your sleeping, which causes dreaming. It's also released in extreme doses when you're only minutes away from being pronounced dead.
