Back in 2006, two Australian miners were trapped more than 925 meters (more than 2500 feet) underground for weeks. Rescue workers reached the men, and iPods were sent to them via a 16-meter long pipe along with food and water.
Dave Grohl, primary songwriter and guitarist for Foo Fighters, caught word of what was going on with the miners and that their preferred musical choice was Foo Fighters.
When he learned this, he sent an email to the mine manager saying the following: "Brant and Todd, Dave here, from the Foo Fighters. Hope you guys are hangin' in there, and hope that the music is helping you two out. Though I'm halfway around the world right now, my heart is with you both, and I want you to know that when you come home, there's two tickets to any Foos show, anywhere, and two cold beers waiting for you. Deal? Looking forward to sharing them with you. Come home safe, and we'll see you soon. Dave Grohl."
The mine manager passed the message down on a note, and the two men were overjoyed to receive the news. They both took advantage of the opportunity.
