Try to find all the star caps.

whatever happens when you collect them all anyway
User avatar #18 to #15 - TheMather ONLINE (08/24/2013) [-]
The prize is actually a storage room full of sheriff stars. But the guy who was infamous for collecting the bottlecaps had been trapped in there after being attacked by the robots, and is found dead in there so you can collect his unique laser pistol, Pew Pew,
User avatar #75 to #18 - fizzor (08/24/2013) [-]
Pew Pew is easily one of the best energy weapons in the game.
User avatar #85 to #75 - TheMather ONLINE (08/24/2013) [-]
It may be one of them, but it doesn't really compare if you're used to the YCS/186.
User avatar #90 to #85 - fizzor (08/24/2013) [-]
>It's easier to find a ******* of EC's than MC's
>Pew Pew is more versatile, YCS/186 is a high-damage weapon that's wasted being used on lesser enemies
>Pew Pew is repairable with laser pistols, which are again easier to come by than the gauss rifles that are required to fix the YCS/186, unless you have the Jury Rigging perk

Just saying, Pew Pew works better for me because it's usable in many different situations, while the YCS/186 works better for tougher enemies. Besides, why make the comparison when one is a gauss rifle and the other a laser pistol, despite being lobbed in the same category, they're meant to be used in completely different situations.
User avatar #92 to #90 - TheMather ONLINE (08/24/2013) [-]
MCs aren't that uncommon. after finishing the game and all addons except Dead Money, I had 1500 of them in addition to the 500 max charge ones and some hundred overcharged. And I didn't purchase or steal even one of them, nor did I bother looking through most of the miscellaneous containers.

And who the hell doesn't take the Jury Rigging perk? Though, it's not essential to maintain the YCS that way, it's jst as good to let NPCs do it or use repair kits.
User avatar #100 to #92 - fizzor (08/24/2013) [-]
Didn't say MC's are uncommon. There's just a lot more of Energy Cells in overall. Seriously, it'd be no exaggeration to say that for every microfusion cell you find, you'll find three energy cells.

Jury Rigging is only available after Repair is 90 or higher. Good luck getting to that early in the game while trying to evenly distributing your points to other desired skills so that you can get other perks than just one every few leveld or none at all.

Yeah, Repair kits are a natural choice, but you need to craft the yourself, and finding all the required items to craft them can be annoying. Only a few NPC's can repair your **** to satisfying condition so that you don't have to run back after a couple of raiders ****** over your stuff, and besides, repairing through NPC's can cost s ******* of bottlecaps depending on your equipment.
User avatar #107 to #100 - TheMather ONLINE (08/24/2013) [-]
Well, you can't exactly get your hands on Pew Pew early in the game either with the amount of star bottlecaps you need.

And it's not that hard to find repairmen that can bring your stuff up to 100% if you know where to look. The Mojave has Raul, paladin Sato and major Knight, Big MT has the Sink CIU, Zion Valley has Joshua Graham and the Divide has the commissaries.
User avatar #113 to #107 - fizzor (08/24/2013) [-]
A valid point about Pew Pew not being exactly easy to obtain early, no arguement against that.

But like I said, repairing through NPC's can cost a ******* of bottlecaps if your stuff is in terrible condition. And considering that YCS/186 is such a high grade weapon, energy weapon no less, which are more expensive than regular guns, it's safe to say that repairing such a beast would cost a lot. Of course high costs at NPC repairing can be avoided by going there regularly and repair when it's only slightly damaged however, it could be easier to repair small damage with repair kits, but then there's the repair kit crafting requirements problem I mentioned earlier , but this would mean more frequent visits, and on the long run, the costs would be the same as when you repair a badly damaged gun at once for a high prize.
User avatar #95 to #92 - TheMather ONLINE (08/24/2013) [-]
And hey, Can't you teach ED-E to make MCs during Lonesome Roead, which carries over into regular New Vegas?
User avatar #102 to #95 - fizzor (08/24/2013) [-]
Yeah, but some people, like myself, don't play the DLC's randomly, but in a chronological order, which is Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues and then Lonesome Road.
User avatar #111 to #102 - TheMather ONLINE (08/24/2013) [-]
Wouldn't the canonical chronological order be Old World Blues before Dead Money? It would make sense to know where Elijah went through before chasing after him.
I know that was the order of release, but this is supported by how the suggested levels are 10+ for Honest Hearts, 15+ for Old World Blues, 20+ for Dead Money and 25+ for Lonesome Road.
User avatar #117 to #111 - fizzor (08/24/2013) [-]
And it actually doesn't make much of a difference, Lonesome Road would still be the last of the DLC's.
User avatar #115 to #111 - fizzor (08/24/2013) [-]
Maybe I chose the wrong wording, I meant that some people play through the DLC's by their order of release date.

ah, i see, i gotta do a clean re install of FONV, i modded the **** out of mine, and my computer doesn't do too well with the New Vegas Script Extender mod, it makes it lag rather bad sometimes, but i've been playin Fallout 3 alot lately

Why not just have a box in the casino that you put all your **** in?
User avatar #44 to #27 - sepheroth (08/24/2013) [-]
Because some people like to immerse themselves in the world.
User avatar #45 to #44 - vicsix (08/24/2013) [-]
Then use multiple boxes. You can buy weapon trunks, and use clothing cases for your clothes. It just seems pointless to me to use random ass footlockers around the world that you will forget after a while.
User avatar #46 to #45 - sepheroth (08/24/2013) [-]
They're not random. They're strategic spots that I set out in the world. I don't fast travel, and I carry limited stock with me.

I'm not talking about keeping all of my **** all over. Mostly stuff like food, ammo, water, and maybe a weapon or two.
User avatar #47 to #46 - vicsix (08/24/2013) [-]
I just can't see the usefulness unless you only play on hardcore, and even then it can screw you over. What if you're about to die and all your supplies is out of reach?
User avatar #49 to #47 - sepheroth (08/24/2013) [-]
I've never not played on Hardcore.

They're still easier to reach than the Strip. And it's for RP purposes, man. This is the one game I can actually get that in
User avatar #64 to #49 - vicsix (08/24/2013) [-]
I like the collecting aspect. Get to be such a powerhouse that you can take on ******* Liberty Prime and win. And I like having the ability to run around for weeks on end and never eat, cause it's time consuming in real life, so it would be doubly annoying to do in a video game.
User avatar #69 to #64 - sepheroth (08/24/2013) [-]
I don't like being a powerhouse, I don't even run around in armor. Just the DT from the perks. Also only run around with one rifle, one sidearm, and a melee weapon (one handed for most characters, two handed only with a strength of 8 or higher)
User avatar #96 to #69 - vicsix (08/24/2013) [-]
Isn't being buck-ass naked a bit immersion breaking?
User avatar #143 to #96 - sepheroth (08/24/2013) [-]
Not wearing armor doesn't mean not wearing clothes.
User avatar #144 to #143 - vicsix (08/24/2013) [-]
It would be a bit funner. Do you not use the radio either?
User avatar #145 to #144 - sepheroth (08/24/2013) [-]
The radio is part of the world. And I do sometimes use armor, if I like it and it makes sense for them to wear it at the time. Not going to wander around the wastes in heavy ass ranger gear.
User avatar #146 to #145 - vicsix (08/24/2013) [-]
Well, ranger gear is made for withstanding the wastes, and is really only riot gear, a gas mask and a regulator jacket (from FO3). Power Armor would be immersive and understandable as well, as it's made for harsh conditions, and you don't actually feel the weight of it, since it is hydraulics powered.
User avatar #148 to #146 - sepheroth (08/24/2013) [-]
Just personal taste then
User avatar #149 to #148 - vicsix (08/24/2013) [-]
Yeah, guess so. I always loved the ranger armour with a sheriff's hat or the like. It looks really... western I guess. Using the Mysterious Magnum with it helps too.
User avatar #151 to #149 - sepheroth (08/24/2013) [-]
I used to rock it with the Desperado hat and Authority Glasses Anti-Materiel Rifle, Ranger Sequoia, and Chance's Knife.
User avatar #152 to #151 - vicsix (08/24/2013) [-]
Yeah that's the hat I meant. I never liked the anti-materiel rifle as a use rifle (too slow) and I never found Chance's Knife. Is it that good?
User avatar #153 to #152 - sepheroth (08/24/2013) [-]
If you use it right then you don't need speed.

You'd be surprised. As a bartender, bottles with twist off caps take little force to pop off the cap. Bottles like red stripe, require more force to get the cap off. Also, because of the odd shape of the bottle, sometimes takes a 2nd or even a 3rd try to get the cap off. Luckily we don't have a magnetic bottle cap catcher like the post, because my fingers would be torn to **** from doing that.
