Andrew Jackson was a asshole and pretty corrupt but he also makes for some interesting stories.
First president to have an assassination attempt on his life..both pistols misfired and Jackson then smacked the dude with his cane.
Battle of New Orleans he proved to be a bad ass general in the War of 1812.
I highly suggest reading up on him.

He was so power hungry that an whole political party formed around a hatredOf him.
In fact, the downfall of the Whigs occurred after they were no longer united by their hatred of Jackson.

Not just Florida...pretty much if you were Native American around him or during his presidency you were kinda ****** .

He adopted a Native American baby that he found during a battle.

Adams, John (b. Oct. 30, 1735 d. July 4, 1826), erroneously considered the second U.S. president, Adams, because of the nonlinear way in which time was organized in the 18th century, was technically president before Washington. As a result of the complex pre-1800 nonconsecutive system of time, Adams was in many ways the nation’s first commander in chief, as well as its 19th and 64th, the first and 72nd vice president, Indiana’s fourth- largest Hyundai dealer, the man who gave a majestic eulogy at the funeral of President John Adams in 1826, and backup quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams from 2021 to 2026. As president, Adams retained Washington’s cabinet, though its members weren’t certain if they had served Washington first or if Adams had appointed them, but it was nevertheless seen as a gracious act of statesmanship. Unfortunately, when Washington was voted into office four years earlier, he spent the first part of his term undoing everything Adams would later achieve.

When Andrew Jackson dueled Charles Dickinson he let Dickinson shoot him first instead of shooting at the same time. He got shot 2 inches from the heart and didn't go down. He did this so that he could take his time to line up the perfect shot to kill his opponent.

jackson was a complete badass the only drawback i can see to him was the trail of tears, although it was the most humane option i guess..........
#57 to #55 - anon (03/28/2013) [-]
>Trail of tears

>Humane option

Yeah for white people
User avatar #60 to #57 - luiselvergas (03/28/2013) [-]
well it was either make the natives leave or force them to leave all their culture, religion, ect . behind and be assimilated. kinda like the Borgs in star trek

Even if they did become "apples" (red on the outside, white on the inside), they would still be forced off the land. In the end, all five main civilized tribed (Choctaw, Chickasaw, Cherroke, Creek, Seminole) were still moved to Indian Territory, now known as the great state of Oklahoma, which I am from.

I am in college getting my masters in secondary education. I started these posts to start collecting interesting facts that I can inject into every lesson. I want to have a fun fact written on the board everyday. Something to get students exited about the content.
-Also, if you have any suggestions on what makes a good teacher, I would like to hear them, please.

If you're going to be a history teacher, don't be like mine and make notes quite literally your entire grade in the class. My notes are worth 45% of my grades, while my final and my tests are worth a combined 35%
User avatar #83 to #53 - corundum (03/28/2013) [-]
are your notes collected and graded or something?
User avatar #85 to #83 - arrowhead (03/28/2013) [-]
We're given note sheets that we have to fill out. It wouldn't be too bad, except for the fact that we have to outline an entire unit from the book, and that alone is worth more than a test.
User avatar #87 to #85 - corundum (03/28/2013) [-]
I'm not sure if I should be angry about this system.
User avatar #89 to #87 - arrowhead (03/28/2013) [-]
I was because he
A: told us the outlines were optional
B: Said that no notes would be required after the first 2 outlines
User avatar #90 to #89 - corundum (03/28/2013) [-]
i'm a little angry now

Bonus Fact: Van Buren's legacy continues in the form of a New York gang, the Van Buren Boys. Be sure to flash their secret sign in case of danger.

Jackson also overrode the supreme court's ruling on a Native American reservation. he seized the reservation using army forces, even though the supreme court ruled it was illegal to do so. he said something along the lines of "Well let them enforce their ruling" when informed.

Hence, Indian Removal Acts. Jackson was a cunt. He abducted an indian baby while destroying a tribe.

Andrew Jackson was also the biggest asshole that the U.S. has ever had for president.
#39 to #7 - powerfapping (03/28/2013) [-]
I would say that Van Buren was a bigger asshole. My history teacher has taken to calling him "Super Prick"

I like him just because of his nickname: "The Little Magician"

A lot of the old president's did tons of cool and unusual **** . If a president did any of that today, the media and everyone else will be all up in their ass about it.
