An interesting design. Not practical, but still neat. Like the double M1911. Or the old .22 revolver that fired from the top and bottom chamber at the same time.

stacked barrels have a slower fire delay with standard magazines... so you would need drum mag or chain and in that case 1 or 6 barrels would be more effective.

but still good thinking. was my first thought too
User avatar #62 to #50 - MrTurdTastic (08/14/2012) [-]
I can't be bothered to type, so just read my above post on how twin barrels are absolutely useless on a small arm.
User avatar #56 to #50 - redguardsman (08/14/2012) [-]
The loading system could just come into the side of the gun. If this device were an example, the barrels would be stacked and the magazine would clip in from the side.

Not sure why you'd do that though. Ergonomically, this setup works better. And you won't be able to go around corners as easily.

Rotary barrels are for when your gun has such an abnormal rate of fire that you need to use multiple or specialized barrels in order to keep them from melting.

Just saiyan.
#57 to #56 - joexdtry (08/14/2012) [-]
or if the gun uses high velocity ammo with a descent fire rate... but due to the fact that it is an assault rifle a one barrel weapon with a belt loaded clip would be pretty good...
i guess the build it the way it is because it looks and the only people who will buy it are the defense forces and nationalist

Then the magazines would be more or less matchboxes. Frankly, I don't see how such a system could be possible.

I hope you don't mind if I send you a friend invite...
I like people who know stuff about guns and like rotating style auto cannons. but the best kind of weapon is a cal.50 pistol dual wielded...

Aesthetics play no part in the manufacturing of arms. They tend to go on the principle "if it looks stupid, but it works, it isn't stupid".

The dual barrels provide absolutely minimal strategic advantage. and that advantage is far outweighed by the drawbacks. I feel like a bit of essay writing, so here we go.

Advantage: The obvious twice the output of effective fire.

Disadvantages: Much heavier, due to the extra components.

You need to carry around twice the ammunition in coupled magazines, which tend not to fit very well in most magazine pouches.

Much more expensive to manufacture and produce as well as maintain.
Due to the complex design stoppages are much more likely.

Firing in any calibre beyond 5.56 would provide a significant amount of recoil due to twice the kinetic energy being produces per shot.
User avatar #94 to #61 - Rockaman (08/14/2012) [-]
You can give these guns to elite, large, strong soldiers so the weight would be less of an issue. If you look after a weapon well, stoppages should not be a problem. Also the recoil may not be a problem as you can have them firing out of sync so no 2 bullets are ever fired at the same time.

This gun is likely designed for urban warfare which makes up a large amount of combat in that area of the world - it is probably designed not to be that accurate as it is likely to be used to spray bullets into a room after the door has been breached to kill or pin the enemy inside therefore the recoil is even less of a problem.
User avatar #106 to #94 - MrTurdTastic (08/14/2012) [-]
So... it does the job of things that already exist... a decent SMG or Shotgun can do that job just as effectively. At the end of the day, there's only so many rounds you can put downrange before the volume you are putting down is in excess and you are wasting ammunition. Think about it, if I fire one round a second, and it forces an enemy to not put his head up, thats effective fire, if I put down 3 a second, that's wasting ammunition.
