I mean, they're supposed to be extremely fast, and are obviously unbelievably clever...
They ripped a person's voice box out, and made it work, ffs...
But then you see it looking at Amy very slowly and deliberately, like it's as dumb as a rock.
Not to mention the fact that they "turn" to stone when they're not being seen, implying that they possibly alter their forms when not being seen.
#100 to #98 - lordofthenash (01/07/2013) [-]
The Statue of Liberty idea was neat, but when it made sounds when moving... It killed it. I enjoyed the concept that the Statue of Liberty could be a Weeping Angel and we'd never know because someone is looking at it at all times. But that's just it, someone's looking at it at all times. They took a great enemy concept and completely ruined it. Completely.

User avatar #101 to #100 - GeneralLeeInsane (01/07/2013) [-]
Well, if you think about it, it makes sense that a Weeping Angel as absolutely enormous as the Statue of Liberty makes noise when it moves...
It would completely defy the laws of physics for it not to make noise.
User avatar #110 to #101 - ilovehitler (01/07/2013) [-]
Doesn't the entire concept of weeping angels kinda completely defy physics?
User avatar #115 to #110 - GeneralLeeInsane (01/07/2013) [-]
Something turning to stone doesn't defy physics. There are many things in this universe that haven't been explained, that doesn't mean they defy physics, and it doesn't make them magic.
That's actually what magic is, something that science hasn't explained yet. Real magic, anyway.
User avatar #117 to #115 - ilovehitler (01/07/2013) [-]
Something that turns to stone only when looked at, and the moment it isn't being looked at it can move at such extraordinary speeds, then be back to stone as soon as it's looked at, even if the only time it wasn't being looked at was the blink of an eye?
That doesn't defy physics?
User avatar #121 to #117 - GeneralLeeInsane (01/07/2013) [-]
Not really, no.
Trees are very hard objects, and they survive for hundreds of years.
Dinosaur bones have fossilized into very brittle forms of rock.
Snails have shells to deter enemies from their soft bodies.
Turtles grow very thick bone layers to defend themselves.

An advanced civilization, capable of time travel, creating beings that turn to stone, when looked upon, move extremely fast, and can survive off of the potential energy of living creatures.
I most certainly would not be surprised if it could be done in the future. Maybe not in the way that we think of on Doctor Who, but it is a possibility. Maybe it could be done with a combination of bio-mechanical engineering, nano-technology, and genetic engineering?
User avatar #135 to #121 - ilovehitler (01/08/2013) [-]
I'll be honest, I don't know enough about any of those three things, but it still seems a bit far fetched to me. Maybe I'm just a skeptic, but...

In my entire life I've seen but a single episode of Doctor Who ("Blink") and beyond that I know pretty much nothing about the show. So could someone explain the joke please?
User avatar #52 to #29 - emptysuperman (01/07/2013) [-]
Doctor Who is honestly one of the worst shows I have ever seen. I have only watched a few episodes but allow me make my case on one of them...
The episode "Blink" had more holes in it than Swiss cheese. Allow me to point out
several. Keep in mind I've only watched this episode once:

-In the first few minutes of the episode the girl peels away the wallpaper and a
message is revealed to "Beware the Angels" but it does not explain why the doctor
would know to write this message here. You could argue that the girl for some reason
added it at the end of the transcript (even though she wouldn't have because she was all like "How'd he get the transcript!!?") But the other part that doesn't make sense
about this is the Angel then throws something at her. Why? The Angel would stand no
benefit from killing her this way as they only get to survive on the energy of
sending her to the past which they must do my touching her. And if they are so fast
(because they move while you blink) then why wouldn't he just touch her in the time it
took to throw the damn thing?? And it never throws anything else throughout the
episode.

-During the scene where the girl is talking to the guy giving her a letter. The
other girl is in going through the house and the Angel is following her and
eventually sends her back to the past. However, this entire scene makes no sense.
The Angels only turn to stone when they are being seen. However, the girl who was
about to be touched never sees the Angel, yet several time, it shows the Angel in
stone. What? Are WE the viewers supposed to be there seeing him? That doesn't make any sense.
User avatar #55 to #52 - emptysuperman (01/07/2013) [-]
-How did the Doctor know what emotions to have during the video or how long to pause between statements if he was only reading off a transcript?

-The speed of the Angels is ridiculously inconsistent. They followed them around town and jumped from building to building but never found an opening to touch them? How the **** does that work?

-Why did the Angels turn to stone when the light was flickering and the people were in the T.A.R.D.U.S. (have no idea if that's the right spelling)? Who was looking at them?

-Why did the light bulb suddenly stop flicking after all four Angels were looking at one another? And what happens when the light bulb goes out? Darkness obviously makes it so they can't see each other. The only way around this is maybe the Angels can see in the dark. But the characters have no way of knowing that. So why do they assume they were forever stuck there?

And "Timely-Wimely Wibbleity-Wobbleity" is not excuse for piss-poor writing.
User avatar #78 to #55 - cannibalotter (01/07/2013) [-]
-Time does not move in one straight line, she introduces herself to the Doctor at the end and says so as well as that she helped him in something that hadn't happened in his perspective of time and giving him a script as well as a list of movies to place the message within. I'm pretty sure she also welcomed him back from being stuck in time. In this case the Doctor once he was stuck in his perspective of time would remember her and possibly migrate to the area he met her to send the message, with the combination that he probably knows of Weeping Angels and the script describes them and that they stole the Tardis he probably had the idea to forewarn her.

-The Angels were protecting the Tardis, they don't give a **** who the woman is, they needed to keep the Tardis.

-The Angels don't transport people, pay attention, the Tardis's power did that, the Angel's weren't in the room.

-Your second point makes no sense I don't even.

-The transcript was written probably very well by an obsessed film lover who watched it time and time again, and during the conversation in the house her response was written down so he probably was able to assume the emotion and speed of the conversation.

-They were monitoring her in the city, they didn't want to attack her, she meant nothing to them, they only wanted her to stay away.

-The Tardis was flickering in its existence in between time periods, on its way to return to the Doctor, Sally and whoever were watching around them so they could see the Angels in flickers of light.

-Once the Tardis was gone there was nothing blocking their view from one another, they were stuck and since they probably caused the flickering lights they were unable to do that anymore since they are looking at each other.

-They have no motive to randomly attack people, with the Tardis out of the picture they probably wouldn't do anything.

User avatar #80 to #78 - cannibalotter (01/07/2013) [-]
-Time in the show doesn't travel in a straight defined lined. Acts you do in your future could manage to be something that was necessary in the linear past.

Seriously, at least research before getting pissie.
User avatar #84 to #78 - jokeface (01/07/2013) [-]

Not quite "delete" they have what is called a perception filter that makes it so that you cannot perceive them unless you are looking at them. There is a point where the Doctor makes some so he can sneak up on the Master. You know they're there, but the filter makes your mind not want you to, so you just don't... I really love the Silence.
