I don't get the joke here.

Why would he be scared of them just because they are Americans?

Because Americans shoot anything that isn't American.

Wait, he has an in depth knowledge of all of time and space, and yet he doesn't know that there are typically Americans in the white house?

it's more like he needed to be reminded of just what that meant real quick. I'm sure he knew objectively that Americans were in the white house, but he's so used to dealing with brits that the obvious difference was likely just overlooked.

Can I point out that the Doctor is afraid of Americans, obviously making them a bigger threat than daleks, cybermen, or most else he's encountered.
#65 to #56 - darthklaus (11/18/2013) [-]
Because it's easier to reason with Daleks than with FREEDOMS.

Can face a Dalek without flinching, but even Americans scare the **** out of him.
BBC may hate Americans, but they portray us right.

The idea behind having guns is purely political. It keeps the leadership in check on every level of government. A governor will never try to do something that the majority doesn't like because he knows that somewhere in that majority, there's an insane dude with a high powered sniper rifle.

We don't do things because they're logical or safe, we do them for quite the opposite. I like to think that it keeps a sort of essential balance in society between order and chaos. Too much order, and you end up with cameras on every street corner and police breaking into your house without warrant. Too much chaos, and you've got Anarchy!

yes because our government has never done anything unpopular with the American people in the slightest
