User avatar #4 to #3 - xxfalconxx (03/11/2013) [-]
the slow invasion i believe. with the cubes. they're all at a party, doctor says "we'll go for a spin", they leave for a few weeks coming back 10 minutes later (to the people in the party). During the journey Amy accidentally says yes to a question she wasn't listening to and WHAM, suddenly married.

Netflix, my man. Only recently did I get through the entire series. Someone could be in the process right now.

that's like saying "Solid Snake is a clone" is a spoiler
User avatar #81 to #80 - shumdek ONLINE (03/12/2013) [-]
It's still a spoiler. If you know nothing about the series, you know nothing about the series, and therefore THAT is a spoiler.

I didn't know that Solid Snake was a clone, so that's a spoiler for me, and certainly other people too.

I've only watched one episode, but I have a question.

To me, it seems as if this "timey wimey" theory of time is a bit of a cop-out. I mean, basically, there are no rules to play by, and if the Doctor acts halfway intelligent, then he can basically get out of anything - and thus ruin the suspense.

Is there a point in the show where there actually is a conundrum that the wibbly wobbly ball of time can't solve?
User avatar #48 to #37 - Katzie (03/12/2013) [-]
This is an incredibly idiotic question.
Of course there are situations that can't be solved instantaneously, what would the premise of the show be otherwise?
And I haven't even watched it.
User avatar #98 to #48 - HarvietheDinkle (03/12/2013) [-]
that's an incredibly idiotic answer.

Obviously the show will have problems that can't be solved instantaneously.

But even then, the suspense is ruined because I know that there will be something that the doctor does with time to get out of it/bypass the problem.

If you haven't watched it, you can't really comment on it, unless you're asking a question, likewise. The other guy managed to answer it without being rude.
User avatar #38 to #37 - crazyhindu (03/12/2013) [-]
yes there is, whenever the doctor encounter a fixed point in time, he cannot change or interfere or it will have extreme effects on the world
User avatar #40 to #38 - HarvietheDinkle (03/12/2013) [-]
But he can just easily avoid those.

I mean points in the show where he literally has nowhere/notime (?) to turn.
User avatar #41 to #40 - crazyhindu (03/12/2013) [-]
eh yes and no, there are times when he cant do anything but finds a way to avoid it, and new york he cant go to new york, something with to many timelines crossing or something, fixed points he cannot change no matter what if someone was supposed to die they will die no matter what, and their are rules of time, he cannot cross his own timeline so he cant go back to change something he did wrong lest he create a paradox
User avatar #42 to #41 - HarvietheDinkle (03/12/2013) [-]
Idk. for me, I'm not really inclined to watch much more, because I know there's always something the Doctor will do with time to get himself out of the situation at hand.

Again, to each his own. Thanks for answering, anyway!
User avatar #43 to #42 - crazyhindu (03/12/2013) [-]
no problem, i like doctor who not for the sitiuations he gets into i love it for his personality and quick thinking
User avatar #50 to #35 - Crusader (03/12/2013) [-]
Neither do I.
Matt Smith is a good actor.
But I don't think this Doctor is very entertaining, All Doctors were eccentric and intelligent in this series, Eccleston being Intelligent and only a little eccentric, David Tennant being roughly equal, but with this Doctor it seems like they are trying to pick up the pseudo-nerd fan base by making the Doctor more eccentric than previously shown.
User avatar #105 to #50 - yetaxaa (03/12/2013) [-]
By his own admission, Smith has based his performance largely on Patrick Troughton's Doctor, with a lot of intelligence but also a very childlike way about him.
Personally I think Moffat has been making him more childish than childlike these days, unfortunately.
User avatar #106 to #105 - Crusader (03/12/2013) [-]
Exactly.
The only Doctors I have watched in almost complete entirety, are the ones from the new seasons, 9, 10 and 11.
Eccleston you saw look at a bad situation and go "It's just coincidence" or he would make a joke at someone's expense, but broad enough that it never offended anyone.
Tennant made hundreds of science jokes, his little rants about timey-wimey stuff, and jokes about cultures that related to our own but again no one was offended.
Now it seems as if they looked at Matt Smith and said "We need that 12-16 pseudo-geek crowd" and threw in a bunch of random jokes like "I wear a fez now, fezzes are cool".
When he is serious, he is a great doctor, but when I look at the Doctors I try to imagine them as what they originally were, teachers. Because that is what the series was supposed to be about, teaching kids about science in a sci-fi manner. Albeit it is definitely closer to more social issues that they are tackling, but to be honest, if I had one of the Doctor's as a substitute teacher, Matt Smith would probably make me go "OK, so we are not doing anything of importance" because, like you said, he is more childish than childlike.

User avatar #90 to #88 - nicoquitemad (03/12/2013) [-]
Granted you would understand it at all. I have seen all the latest episodes, and it still took me a while to get it.
User avatar #104 to #90 - wutzittooya (03/12/2013) [-]
i mean that it's still fresh in my mind. but if i saw this post before seeing the S6 finale, i would assume that Amy somehow becomes, or is, the Doctor's mother-in-law and as a result, i am not as surprised when it gets revealed in the show.
