Hey, one question. Im playing darksouls on the ps3 and i dont know the game too well yet. The game says parrying is L2, but that doesnt ever seem to do anything. Can someone explain? Am I just timing it wrong?

Depends, if they are still hitting you its because your timing is off (dont feel bad, i couldnt parry in the slightest for a long time). If it causes them to stumble back, thats only part one, to crit them you need to attack right after the parry (this being called a riposte)

In my experience (playing pc) successfully parrying an attack only deflects the attack, you still have to press the attack button when you successfully parry the attack to get the critical hit.

for most attacks, you should hit the button at the exact moment the hand starts moving forward. you will figure it out eventually.
if it isn't doing ANYTHING, there is a fault tho.
depending on how far you got, practice on some hollows, or skeletons.
skeletons have diverse movesets, and are excellent sparring partners early, because they take many hits, and won't 1hit kill you. they are also available early on.

it deflects oncoming attacks if you time it right, which can give you time for a critical counter attack

the parry has to be performed at the perfect time. if not you get hit. try not to parry too much in PvE. just get a shield that blocks all physical damage and block normally.

parrying in PvE gets you more souls though... i'd think it'd be good to practice it for fighting gwyn
