Idk. I played through some of that game and was unaware how to camp during a quest, didn't know food could heal, and didn't bother checking a wiki and still didn't manage to lose a single person.

Heck I went through have a quest with one dude at death's door just tempting ******* fate, I kept him in third slot if I remember correctly.

i only played darkest dungeon but i disagree, my problem with it that it is too easy because:
> you can't run out of heroes
even on stygan that 13 or something is way too much i just restart the game when i lose anyone for artifical difficulty
> you can't run out of gold
secret room gives 15k just rest for scout and even now that no every dungeon have them you have infinite gold
> ending is very easy with maxed team
anything hard in the game comes from not understanding it (like the boss attacks in dark souls you either look it up or trial and error, but you can't save like in ds so trial and error is very time consuming in darkest) or from rng

yeah you can the system force you to calculate the gold you can't just spent how you want, and the secret rooms you claim is random is not gurantee at each dungeon or else the game will be too easy

yeah maybe not but is a real bitch taking care of them >upgrading their gear

>removing stress from them

>removing diseases from them

is not that easy to control it it demands effort

i only upgrade blacksmith and guild after a little bit on the others, max out 4 skills and equipment, always removing negative quirks, buy trinkets if i see anything good and i never run out of gold, stress can be managed in the dungeon usually resting is enough for that, same with disease just bring pd or gb
it sounds like you are having gold problems mainly, did you try resting for scouting chance and use scouting trinket? if you explore every single part of the dungeon you will be swimming in gold even if you only get 1 secret room in every 3 dungeons

i say upgrading the tavern and sanitorium is priority due to it cost less to have stress, and stage coach with Blacksmith and guild, nd what is PD and gb?

Also you can't rly use the same hero twice in a turn after doing a dungeon because his stress will be at 100 around-ish at his first dungeon so you need a backup hero while you do it

and in lower dungeons there is no campfire and from what i know is not enough to remove fully stress

i re made a new game and re starting to build stuff so i don't got much trinket but i use that advice to good use thank you

still money is not that easy to come by imo

oh you just started recently, ofc the game is hard then, it was for me you gotta learn the ropes, maybe dark souls has an easier learning curve, maybe i should have said darkest is easy to master, i have a quite few hours in it now
pd is plague doctor gb is grave robber they can remove disease on self and an ally in one rest
i usually end dungeons with 0-10 stress but sometimes end up with 100 on whole party when rng or i **** things up (forgetting supplies) but i don't upgrade it because that happens rarely
another important advice is to always choose medium dungeons at least because small ones are not profitable, those are the ones who give no "campfire" they are not level dependant you get them randomly
buying trinket is not worth usually, i just said it that i have too much even after that i think food reduction trinkets are always important, help to manage bag space and less food cost every dungeon

no no no , i said i'm re doing a new game i played darkest dungeon for some time now, i know how it work i never finished the game but i was there.. i was at that necromancer boss i think and the hag who want to eat you in the pot

i choose small dungeon when i got new hero and i want to level them so they won't die and i just found out this

says everything about class i never bother to rly check them and i forgot the grave rober and the pd could cure diseases for free

i once had a part of leaper crusader highman and vestal i was like a god, a very good combo

i stop playing the game in the past cause my computer broke down but is all good now

i think pd is the strongest class now after abo nerf, also try out trading and only upgrading guild and bs i think it really makes the game easier +1 hero and +2 items is usually what i do then 1 cost reduction in survivalist, guild and bs and then only unlocking higher levels
walking back to the secret room after finishing quest, keying the chest in 0 light replacing all the remaining supplies can net 40k even at low lvl, also the setup you said is very bad against back row that could be the reason you are getting high stress levels, hellion can hit everyone, man at arms can hit first 3, but leper and crusader only front usually pd with high speed and 200% stun on back row often means you get no stress in a fight just the crits from front

yeah kinda, when you die in Dark Souls you just lose progression but when you die in Darkest Dungeons you lose your entire crew which would mean re leveling some scrubs, changing their spells and finding items to give them until they're at the same level that your old crew was at

Dark Souls isn't even that hard to be honest

Darkest Dungeon is also a great game but the RNG can sometimes **** you really hard.
When you play Dark Souls you know what you'll get and when you got gud you know exactly what to expect from which enemy / zone. So it feels easier than it is.

It is, but it's not a fair comparison. Dark Souls has a difficulty curve based around awareness and execution, punishing poor play around both with failure. Most of the time if failure happens it's because of the player's own actions and is therefore entirely in their agency.

Darkest Dungeon is difficult for different reasons than Dark Souls. Its difficulty curve is based around probability and control. The optimal way to play it is to minimize the likelihood of bad things happening, and forming a comp of heroes that synergize well with each other. In this way, the player gains more control over what happens, but never total control. Sometimes no matter how optimal you make things, failure happens outside your agency. For example, encountering an enemy that has an attack that can crit, and apply a damage over time effect. You can have a plan to stun that enemy and focus it down, but the possibility still exists that your stun will miss and it ends up critting a hero down to death's door and applying a DoT that kills it before you can get another party member to bring him out of that state.

While both Dark Souls and Darkest Dungeon are difficult games, the reasons for their difficulty are different and therefore not comparable.

I dont think the two are comparable. Darkest Dungeon is a turn based tactics game where RNG can be a deciding factor in winning or losing a run, that game is all about RNG being funny and cruel.

in Dark souls there is no RNG outside of farming for items. Its also an action RPG as well so the "skills" needed to git gud at either game are different skills which in my opinion makes the uncomparable.

A lot of games are harder than Dark Souls, it's not some far-out opinion. People thought it was very hard at first because they were used to games handcuffing them to themselves, and allowing you to blindly button mash without repercussions. All Dark Souls wants you to do is think consciously about what you're doing, and you'll have no problems. Press buttons deliberately, find out game mechanics yourself, and observe and consider where to go and how to fight enemies. That's all.

I don't get why people from Carim draw such ire. Lautrec was actually a pretty honourable knight, granting you a sunlight medal for freeing him and offering his service in two boss fights alongside Solaire. He never said he wasn't going to kill the Firekeeper, and by the time that happens you have no reason to hang around Firelink any more anyway.

As for Chester, yes he does try invading you once in Oolacile, but again he's under no obligation to be your friend. Even when you confront him afterwards he's a fairly good sport about it - he doesn't try to apologise but he doesn't try to kill or drive you off either. A Carimite may end up stabbing you one day, but at least they'll stab you in the front.

None of them ever straight up attack you though, save for Chester (that loveable little scamp!). Lautrec was fulfilling his own duty and wasn't actively trying to impede you, Oswald, Irina & Eygon never try interfering with you (except Eygon if you try leading Irina down the path of darkness) and... well, actually I'd bet Leonard is from Carim as well, but even he seems to be fulfilling his own duty like Lautrec.

Alright that makes sense. Now that I think of it, it seems like he changes to fit the theme of the game, with the paladin being, well, a paladin looking character, Velstadt having a dark appearance, and Eygon having a Lord of Cinder appearance.
