Hey everyone!
So I'm going to be trying out making some of these Dark Souls fact compilations, starting with the Four Lords. If it catches on I'll make more. Hope you guys like it, and let me know if there are any improvements I can make.

Nito was one of the Four Great Lords of Lordran.
As on of the Great Lords, he inherited one of the
Lord Souls from the First Flame. His soul was
called the Death Soul.
Nito was referred to as the First of the Dead. It
is implied that Nito could have been the first
giant to have ever died.
During the giants' war against the dragons,
Nito unleashed a deathly plague upon the
arch trees that the dragons called their
homes. His introduction of disease upon the
dragons helped to weaken them.
After the war, Nito made his residence in the
Tomb of the Giants, the final resting place for
many of the fallen giants. Nito used his
necromantic power to create warriors out of the
skeletons which rested there and used them to
guard him while he slumbered.
His faithful guards did not succeed in their task,
however. The necromancer Pinwheel
discovered Nito' s resting place and siphoned
power from the Gravelord for countless years.
Pinwheel' s actions would eventually leave Nito
in a weakened state.
Though Pinwheel is eventually slain, Nito is left
in his weakened state and is ultimately defeated
by the Chosen Undead.

Honestly don't understand where you got half of this **** from

Nito was most likely the first among the living, not just the "giants" (though I very strongly doubt Gwyn, Artorias and the other deitic figures were giants since giants aren't negatively affected by the strengthening of the Dark Souls/weakening of the Flame.

Interesting speculation, Nito is possibly trying to acquire more power by collecting as much humanity (which are shards of the Dark Soul) to create his own fragment of the Dark Soul by harvesting them from the pool in front of the bossroom.

So Pinwheel has tried to steal power from the Gravelord, but why? And why does he have that odd, twisted form? Some suggest that Pinwheel, the father, tried to steal power from Nito so that he could bring back his child and wife. Either there was a big mistake in one of his attempts to do so or Nito himself punished him, which gave him that twisted form (I'll post another pic of what Pinwheel likely looks like beneath the cloth and masks below).

I'm not too solid on my Nito lore, but isn't most of the Dark Souls Lore speculation? Granted, there's accepted things as canon because they make a lot of sense, but his explanation doesn't NOT make sense. Source for your facts would be cool too. ***** interesting.

EpicNameBro lore on youtube, mostly.
The problem I have with this content is how it uses terms such as "war of the giants", calling Nito a giant, referring to his Lord Soul as the Death Soul (I've personally never heard it being called that. The Arch Trees being the "homes" of the dragons, wut?
User avatar #23 to #22 - nuclearnacho (03/26/2014) [-]
yeah, I've never heard the arch tree thing either. I thought that scene was just Nito "miasma-ing" a random tree or dragon. Nito being a giant is awfully far-fetched. He's certainly large.

Okay several things:
Humans didn't come along until later, after the Pygmy split his Dark Soul. Giants preceded humans and Nito was around far before the Pygmy split the Dark Soul, so it can be concluded that he was a giant.

The giants rose from underground after the four lords found The Lord Souls within the First Flame and fought a war against the Everlasting Dragons.

I can't find it right now, but I believe there is an item description which refers to the Arch Tres as the Dragons' nests. That and the opening video shows the Witch of Izalith's and her daughters burning the very same trees.
User avatar #38 to #28 - europe (03/26/2014) [-]
Where are you basing your first statement on? The opening citematic itself shows humans as the very first living things, though until the Furtive Pygmy who found the Dark Soul in the flame split up the soul, humans were mere hollows.

Where are you basing your origins of the giants on?

Aye, they do destroy them. But look at the trees in Lost Izalith, they don't exactly make anything very fit for life, do they?
User avatar #46 to #38 - deliciousdee ONLINE (03/26/2014) [-]
Given that humans and standard giants look identical with the exception of size and the fact that hollows did not exist until the undead curse did a long time in the future, it stands to reason that the figures depicted are giants. It's explicitly stated that the Pygmy was the progenitor of human kind, and it makes sense. The Pygmy was a small giant, and all humans appear as small giants. He split the Dark Soul into the black sprites called Humanity to give them life.

And yeah, they so look dead. Because Nito and the Witch burned and killed the majority of them. Ever been to Ash Lake? The last remaining Everlasting Dragon nests inside an Arch Tree there.
#36 to #19 - kingthatcrawls ONLINE (03/26/2014) [-]
Well, not quite. I do believe he was the first dead of Giants. Not for size reason, but because he was there around the same time as the furtive pygmy, Manus, who was the first dark soul, the first human. So, for Nito to exist at the same time, or even before Manus, is odd.
But, the first life to spring from the flames were giants. Nito, Gwyn, Witch of Izalith, etc. The Gods are just those giants who've found large souls.
User avatar #37 to #36 - europe (03/26/2014) [-]
The furtive pygmy is the one who had the Dark Soul first, Manus is A primordial human, not THE primordial human. Also you should definitely not take the in-game size of a creature as it's actual size. I know this sounds odd, it does, but let me explain; they increased the sizes of certain opponents (knight of berenike, who are human) in the game for a couple of reasons. One, that they're more intimidating, making the game somewhat more exciting, but the main reason is to actually make it easier for the player to see what kind of move the enemy is making.

I think out of all the Dark souls mythos. Pinwheel has the best lore.
User avatar #171 to #19 - boydaranga (03/27/2014) [-]
there is not real truth in the dark souls lore, seeing much isn't specified. the lore of the games is made from most players assumptions and imaginations, with the help of item descriptions and dialogue. dark souls lore is like a great big puzzle. and no one can be entirely right seeing that we don't know what the real truth is.
User avatar #190 to #171 - animationhac (03/27/2014) [-]
I am almost sure there is lore in Dark Souls. Not everything is theory though some of it is. I am almost certain at least 60% of the lore out there is true.

yes but a lot of it is not specified. it was the dev's point. to make us figure it out ourselves.

I am guessing that he is more difficult if you fight him early on in the game when your magic resistance is much lower.
Most people fight him on their way to Nito, which is in the second part of the game, so you are so high leveled that you can kill him in like 2-3 flurries.
User avatar #79 to #57 - iloveburzum (03/26/2014) [-]
Bear in mind that its entirely possible for people to head straight to pinwheel from the first area, albeit accidentally.
I wouldn't advise that **** , but some people definitely tried it, and others succeeded.

Apologies. Undead asylum is essentially the tutorial, I am skipping that. I mean from firelink shrine.
I'm trying to say a brand new character, just out of the undead asylum, might be foolish enough to try their luck with pinwheel.

From firelink shrine, head to the area that the skeletons are coming from. Wander round there till you find some steps leading to a tunnel.
Follow the tunnel and then hug the left wall, avoid skeletons resurrecting. There will be a necromancer down here, kill him and pull the lever.
Also bonfire!
Thats as far as I'll guide you. As for the rest, SUFFER.
User avatar #200 to #199 - MacDaed (03/30/2014) [-]
see, how hard was that?
#164 to #149 - flogme (03/27/2014) [-]
its actually not that hard, albeit pointless. see i have this theory on the rite of kindeling's practicallity where you can easily run to pinwheel and kill him at low levels (just takes a bit of patience/skill) for the rite. this is all fine and good, but you probably wont intentionally know that this is an option until 1-2+ playthroughs of the game, which would mean that any decnt player would have reached the skill level to offset the need of having 5-10 extra flasks anyway.

While it is always nice to see ds content, I have to say you should have put forth a little more effort. The majority of the info here can be found by simply watching the intro to the game. The only other part of this that you don't find there is about pinwheel, and that isn't even completely true in itself. The part about pinwheel is just one of many theories based around him. There is no exact cannon answer to who pinwheel was.

In the Age of Ancients,
The world was unformed, shrouded by fog
A land of grey crags, archtrees, and everlasting dragons
But then there was Fire
And with Fire came Disparity. Heat and cold, life and death, and of course.. Light and Dark.
Then, from the Dark, They came
And found the Souls of Lords within the flame.
Nito, the first of the dead
The Witch of Izalith, and her daughters of chaos
Gwyn, the Lord of Sunlight, and his faithful knights
And the furtive pygmy, so easily forgotten
With the Strength of Lords, they challenged the dragons.
Gwyn's mighty bolts peeled apart their stone scales
The witches weaved great firestorms
Nito unleashed a miasma of death and disease
And Seath the Scaleless betrayed his own, and the dragons were no more
Thus began the Age of Fire
But soon, the flames will fade, and only Dark will remain
Even now, there are only embers, and man sees not light, but only endless nights
And amongst the living are seen, carriers of the accursed Darksign
