Technically Sauron is a Maiar as well. He was considered to be the strongest of the maiar.

Well I knew he was one. But I didn't know about the balrogs being maiar too, because they're so much bigger and more monstrous-looking.. Sauron at least looked semi-humanoid before Isildur got to him.
