the thing i dont get: why cant all benders fly? this is probably a stupid question but still, if an earth bender had an earth platform big enough for them to stand on couldnt they bend it up while on it to make them go up with it? same for a water or air bender but not fire really. i have just always found it weird how they havent done this before

It takes a lot more effort on their part to make the earth fly and carry their weight. As seen in Korra and The Last Air Bender all experienced water benders can lift themselves with a jet of water, but to actually lift themselves would require a large body of water in the first place.

Fire Benders would require a large amount of flame and would probably end up causing a lot of destruction behind them for just a small lift.

Earth Benders have to bend relative to the weight, plus they, traditionally, are stationary and don't move a lot, making themselves move would probably throw off their form and they probably need some sort of 'connection' to the earth... You can't have that connection in the air.

That's just my opinion on why everyone else doesn't' fly, though.

well the concept of it is what im talking about mostly sure if they tried it all of a sudden in the middle of battle they probably wouldnt be able to do much but still

for air benders most can float already, with more practice focusing on flying they could probably get pretty good at it

fire benders probably would never be able to much of anything besides energy wasting jets

earth benders and water benders would probably get about the same effectiveness
i never meant something like long distance travel but something more than a big jump.

What else is flying but long distance travel? If you're wanting a big jump then they can already do that. All of them except Fire Benders have done it.

I'm not sure if Earth Benders have done it to themselves but as seen in, I think, the third episode of Korra they can use flat slabs of earth to launch people. That could easily be done by their own bodies, or by other earth benders, to get your "Big Jump"

Water benders can already launch themselves, as seen numerous times. But Fire Benders wouldn't be able to jump because doing so much fire bending for that 'jump' would harm the air and not to mention take a lot of energy to pump out enough flames to push their entire body weight forward..

i mean more than a big jump but not something like all benders would just fly everywhere, i mean just like... maybe for like going over something large they cant bend in their way, maybe an earthbender would want to go across a deep lake, or maybe a water bender going over a group of buildings

also it what im talking about would be Less than Flying but more than a boost or jump, just in between. The reason i said "fly" in my first comment was just a quicker way of saying this

While alot of this is true, let me point out some things.

A truly powerful airbender CAN float, as seen in Sozin's Comet, when Aang is 'floating'.

A truly powerful earthbender CAN'T float, but they can haul ass, as seen in the episode when Toph learns how to metal-bend.

A truly powerful waterbender CAN'T float, but they can haul ass, too. (Seen in episdoe 6 of LoK.)

A truly powerful Firebender CAN float, as seen in TLA, Azula can fly by shooting flames out of her feet.

they're called benders, not floaters

well with fire you could have to jet pack thing ozai did in the last episode of The Last Airbender. But that was with the power of the comet.

true but not much of the same concept as the others, plus fire benders would get tired alot faster
