yeah, she ****** up big time. they'll probably fix it some way or another in season three though.

I hope we get a new series after Korra cause we need a badass Earth bender Avatar.
User avatar #45 to #25 - snowshark (02/28/2014) [-]
Actually no, what she ended up doing is probably the best thing for the world in general. Think about it. All of those past Avatars have one thing in common, they're from a time long-since gone by. How much changed between Wan and Aang? Not much really. There were still four nations and there was still a lot of fighting. Korra? The nations are blending together and breaking apart at the same time. For the first time we're seeing more than 4 canon nations on the field. Politics has become incredibly important and technology has advanced further than ever before.

What is more, for the first time since Wan the spirit world and the human world are coming together... there isn't a single Avatar that can offer any real wisdom in these scenarios that people who are currently living can't offer with better context and understanding.

What is more, it is the most important thing the writers have ever done. Since the series began people have been going on over and over about Aang, Toph, Katara, Zuko, and Sokka. Their stories are over and Korra, Bolin, and Mako's stories are beginning.

The writing in the first series was really scuppered by them not knowing if they'd be able to have 3 more seasons afterwards hence why Korra behaves differently at the start of the series since the original run would have called for her to not have been as developed in the first season. Honestly, there's nothing that needs fixing at this point.

Korra is a ******* bitch and I hate her.
Mako and bolin offer nothing to the story.
They should have quit after Legend of Aang...

that would be as sweet as Korras tits, but the cycle goes Air-Water-Earth-Fire, so they would have to skip an Avatar or 5 and that would kinda suck

Aye. I've gone into more detail as to why I'd say thanks to Korra too but I've already done that talking to sexyhimself below so you can just find my views further down in this chain.

#54 to #10 - Rascal (02/28/2014) [-]
Well before the lion turtles took their leave they gave people bending permanently, setting the stage for bending as a genetic trait, so they wouldn't be needed anymore.
User avatar #11 to #8 - xXCorpitoXx (02/28/2014) [-]
Okay let me explain it better
He gained fire bending from the fire Lion Turtle but he learned how to Fire Bend from the dragons
Kinda like if someone gave you weapon but you would have to find a teacher or master to teach you how to use it.
He gained all his bending from the lion turtles but he didnt learn Air bending from the air bisons, nor did he learn water bending from the moon or earth bending from the badgermoles. He taught himself how to use the last 3.
#32 - thesinful (02/28/2014) [-]
My question has always been, how the **** do you learn bending from the goddamn moon? All the other stuff I can kinda see but the moon?
#39 to #32 - JustintheWaysian ONLINE (02/28/2014) [-]

Just as the ocean spirit became koizilla, the moon spirit maybe took form. Remember that the second avatar was an air nomad; after he/she died, he/she passed spiritual knowledge to the third avatar who could meet these two f*ckers

They were originally gifted by the Lion Turtles but eventually that generation died off and the arts were lost so they had to learn from the animals and the moon.

Despite the red thumbs you're getting I have to concur. I thought book 2 was really awful. I kind of gritted my teeth and tried to get through their depiction of the spirit world, but now that the two are one it's really gonna suck
#52 to #41 - amuzen (02/28/2014) [-]
other than the depiction of the spirit world I kind of liked 2, although I do wish they didn't cheapen the spirits to what they did and that they had made the spirit world more like the bath house in spirited away with a bunch of unique and powerful spirits that just don't really care one or the other about most things instead of all them just being random weird things.

Wasn't it like this though?
He was granted all the elements by visiting each individual lion turtle to get all 4 elements.

He then on his travels, trained together with Rava where Rava would help him master the elements by passing through him?
At approximately 8 minutes or so, you see the lions granting him the bending and then till approximately 9 minutes, you see him and Rava practice where Rava passes through him. He then says "Every time you pass through me, I feel an incredible rush of power!"

wait, the spirits said that there are dozens of lion turtles. so would there not be many more other animals/entities with the ability to teach different elements to control? wouldn't the lion turtles teach other animals bending? which would then teach humans to bend other elements?
#17 to #15 - Faindragon (02/28/2014) [-]
The lion turtles simply gave humans the ability to bend.

Wang was taught how to properly use it by the dragon.

User avatar #18 to #17 - hellomynameisbill (02/28/2014) [-]
still, why can't we see other animals in the series bending plants and shiett?
User avatar #58 to #18 - Crusader (02/28/2014) [-]
We do, air bisons, badgermoles and dragons all appear to bend.

Meaning that to some extent the lion turtles gave them the abilities.
The problem arises with "why didn't they give other animals"

There are two ways to go about this.

1 - They do bend, flying, swimming, etc is all a form of bending, but due to dilution/interbreeding or just the lack of ability to understand what they were doing and therefore it's not referred to as bending.

2 - The Lion turtles gave those species the ability to bend, and then after they gave humans the ability, they learned of what they had done and refused to give any more creatures such power.
User avatar #76 to #58 - hellomynameisbill (03/01/2014) [-]
Another theory is that they only gave hyper intelligent animals the ability to bend.
#33 to #18 - Faindragon (02/28/2014) [-]
The air bison that Aang had in the first series used air bending to fly.

Toph learned to bend from Badgermoles, and I think they even show that in one episode.

Most notably, we see dragons teaching both Aang and Zuko to fire bend.
