I'd imagine warm water would be ideal. Start them off with taking them in the shower once in a while. To them, it just feels like warm rain. If you toss them in a bath tub full of water, they'd panic. You have to ease them into it. I took the kitten in the video with me in the shower a few times when he was younger. It made him think it's normal. Then he would sit between the curtains willingly while you showered. Then he jumped down in the tub, but hid behind the curtain so only his feet and tail got wet. Then I started putting the plug over the drain so it'd slowly fill up. He got his paws under water then just got curious. Then it'd fill up some more and he was wet enough that he didn't really care. He started to wade around the water while the shower was going and was just loving the new experience.

I'm not professional cat trainer, but the key is to make it normal for them. Cats generally creatures of habit. Introduce something to them enough and keep them calm and they will eventually ease into it. Ideally, start when they're kittens so they have no previous experiences to tell them if it's normal or not.

My mom almost died last year from a stomach ailment and was hospitalized for several months and then put in a nursing home for 10~ months. I found if you ask permission and get paperwork, hospitals will often all you to bring a pet to visit their family. I also had her put in a place to recover that allowed dogs so ours could go visit her. That's why I'm saying; a year is ****** up, unless it some some extreme circumstance. Like when my mom was in ICU, they don't let pets in there, so that would be understandable. But if you pull strings and make time for it, you can allow people to still see their pets.

That just seems like an awful long time to not visit a dog. Even if he was an exchange student or something, you could still visit every so often. Dogs don't live long enough for their people to leave them for such periods of time. That's just my two cents anyway. I love my dog and he is like family, I wouldn't disappear on him for a year without visiting every so often if I had to go someone like for work or something.

I get what you're saying, but it could easily be some extraneous circumstance. Military or sickness is one, but studying abroad is another. Its possible that it was a family dog, and it just so happened this was just a son in that family who was gone for a year (yes, I know it was the 'brothers' dog, still).

There are tons of totally legit possibilities. Brother could have moved to a different state for college and was in dorms or would not be home often enough to morally justify bringing his doggo and making the borker spend tons of time alone. Or the dude studied abroad or traveled for an extended period. Military. Serious illness. Etc.

Personally, I'm 23 and live with my 'rents while finishing my degrees, and my doggo is 8 years old and I've already told them that I'm not moving out while he's still alive. I couldn't stand not living with my dog, and since when I move out I'll be working or at school a **** ton I couldn't make him stay alone for 8+ hours a day. It would be more cruel than leaving him with my family, who adore him and he loves them, and maybe not seeing him for a year or two.

It's not like it takes more than a minute, you're just wasting water (and hot water at that) at that point.

It's a prong/pinch collar. They're supposed to help get the dog to stop pulling on the leash. We had a doberman that needed one, but she was so damn stubborn that even with it on, she'd still pull. Ended up getting her a gentle leader which worked much better.

If I got undressed before turning the water on, I'd definitely be able to go grab clothes and come back and hop in before it got warm.

There are showers that take a couple of minutes to warm up. Getting clothes would take maybe one minute at most. That minute to get clothes doesn't mean much when your actual shower probably takes 5-10 minutes, if not longer.

Had an apartment with a busted boiler. Could take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes to get hot water. Used to make breakfast while I waited for it to heat up. And don't dare turn the temp down if it's too hot or you wait another 10 minutes.
