What about when the devil caused all humans to die by tempting Eve? I have no idea how many people died through out all time but i think its more.

Snake of Eden =/= Satan.

They have no connection whatsoever.

Satan's the reason we're mortal, this was left out.
User avatar #28 to #25 - techketzer (12/10/2012) [-]
Nowhere does it state, imply or even hint that Satan and the snake are identical or even just connected.

Satan = snake is fandom, not canon.
User avatar #34 to #28 - connormccloud (12/10/2012) [-]
I thought the snakes was a metaphor for lilith
User avatar #35 to #34 - techketzer (12/10/2012) [-]
That's a possible interpretation, but we have no evidence for that as well.
All we know about the snake in Eden seducing Eve is that it was a snake and it was in Eden and that it seduced Eve.

That bit might actually be cannibalized out of an older/foreign creation myth for all we know.
User avatar #36 to #35 - connormccloud (12/10/2012) [-]
Isn't the majority of Christian traditions cannibalization though? Im talking New Testament
User avatar #37 to #36 - techketzer (12/10/2012) [-]
Oh holy **** , yes it is.
There's barely anything original about Christianity at all.

That's what makes the outcry of "Heathen!" so laughable.
User avatar #26 to #25 - syntheticdoll ONLINE (12/10/2012) [-]
Actually... Eve is the reason since Satan gave her a choice.....

But curiosity and knowledge is what we as a people are unique in this world for. Stay the same for ever or grow and explore. It is not for everyone but that is what defines us. So if she had the power of free will to try to learn why was it wrong for her to do so?

Maybe this story is the way of keeping people ignorant. Not just Christians but every establishment.

Socrates was executed (given the choice) for "corrupting" the Youth of Athens.
Jesus was killed for spreading new ideas.
Galileo, Copernicus and the other well known examples were all persecuted.

Because a power base needs a sturdy foundation but foundations are not able to shift without changing the structure. All of these ideas and change are the catalysts for New government, religion, philosophies. Why should people live the same way as others did 1000-2000 years ago. That is just silly. We use watches not sundials.

In my experience it is difficult for fictional characters to kill real people.
User avatar #20 to #12 - sorrowofdaedalus (12/10/2012) [-]
Then you haven't enough experience. Most wars if not over land or resources have been over God.
User avatar #24 to #20 - shinigamigod (12/10/2012) [-]
The wars have been due to conflict of religions by people, not Gods, this is not Black and White. 'My God is better than your God' and 'My God is the real God not yours.'
A God defined by any region with have on this planet has had no hand in any conflict over religious beliefs.
User avatar #27 to #24 - sorrowofdaedalus (12/10/2012) [-]
Note that even if those people were the physical starters of the war, it was inspired and thus due to God. Theoretically, if there were no image of the singular God, there wouldn't have been those wars.
User avatar #31 to #27 - shinigamigod (12/10/2012) [-]
Yes but we're talking directly killing, not indirectly.
Directly, a fictional character has never killed anyone real.
Indirectly, it has happened more so than factual people have.
User avatar #41 to #31 - sorrowofdaedalus (12/10/2012) [-]
I don't agree. I think we are talking about killing in general. If 8 didn't exist, then there is no way 7 could eat 9 on account of 8.

8 is not 7, but you can't discount for 8's involvement and being the reason that inspired 7 to eat 9.
User avatar #21 - callammo (12/10/2012) [-]
just out of interest, who did Satan kill???
User avatar #23 to #21 - mortality (12/10/2012) [-]
Job's children. Job was God's single greatest disciple at the time, so Satan made his house collapse, killing all of his children, after he sent bandits to burn Job's crops and murder the workers in the fields. All of this was wish God's permission
