You can blame one specific group, if that specific group incorporates practically everyone on the planet (theists).
Religion is a hindrance to scientific progress and harbors ignorance and intolerance of all kinds. It's the one thing humanity could do without.

Yea, and the Catholics put him on house arrest for his entire life after he found out that earth revolves around the sun. That backfired didn't it? It's not like those religions MADE them smart... moron.

Along with the fact that the post generalizes religion, not bringing up the fact that Einstein, who vastly helped the world and was a key part of creating the atom bomb that ended WWII was very heavily Jewish. But no, RELIGION BAD

No wait. Pretty please kill yourself. You are the reason the world is **** , not theists. 12 year olds with such big stigmas that they blame a group, without any proof or knowledge of the sutation, for one thing then turn around do it themselves.

The world would not miss you or anyone like you. And I assure you while there are people like you on both sides of the argument, atheists and theists, you in particular are the reason some people think genocide and dictatorships are good. Because given freedom of reproduction and choice, you would **** up everything to the point that we might as well start over as amoebas.

No proof or knowledge? I'm pretty sure the violent protests happening in muslim countries was motivated by religion.

Your lack of background knowledge of the situation in Syria, and the human mind, saddens me. Look back at the history and culture of those places as well as "mob mentality", it will help you understand. Religion was the spark, it was not the reason it blew up like it did.

I'm so sick of these anti-theism and anti-atheism posts. They aren't even funny they just start internet arguments and mindless name calling more internet arguments that aren't even interesting to read.

Why can't we see more 'my god can beat your god at X(some activity)'.
Here let me start:

The Robot Devil is a better musician than the regular devil.
The robot devil has proven that he can call upon a third arm to play a fiddle with great skill. Also, the fiddle was made of solid gold and "weighs hundreds of pounds and sound crummy". His performance was not hindered by the immense weight of the fiddle, and despite the fact that it was as quoted by the Robot Devil himself "mostly for show" he still managed to put on an amazing display of musical knowledge and manual dexterity.
The normal devil has never displayed any musical ability to my knowledge and and possesses no obvious physical traits that may be beneficial to a musician besides the wings of an angel which may help with acoustics, but not much else.
The point is, the Robot Devil is a much greater musician than the regular Devil.
Therefore Robotology > Christianity/Catholicism/any other religion that derives its "Devil" from the same place as the previous two

Atheists are sure of nothing and couldn't be ****** thinking too much about something impossible to prove.

User avatar #198 to #195 - syis (09/19/2012) [-]
Whatever, pompous or not, the atheist defines himself as "not knowing/not caring about" the real meaning of life and what the afterlife is about.
Did you ever try to convince anyone with your lack of theory?
User avatar #201 to #198 - CoolStoryBrosky (09/19/2012) [-]
No, you're wrong. The atheist actively rejects the existence of God. He doesn't admit to not knowing, he asserts that he knows there exists no god.

Yeah, the agnostic is the one claims to not know.
User avatar #226 to #205 - blargtastic (09/19/2012) [-]
Well, if you want to get technical, I'm an agnostic atheist; meaning, that I reject the idea of god, but I do not know for sure whether he exists or not seeing as how it's impossible to prove or disprove his existence since he is a dogma in and of itself.
User avatar #202 to #201 - syis (09/19/2012) [-]
That would imply a real definition of the word "God".
User avatar #203 to #202 - CoolStoryBrosky (09/19/2012) [-]
a supernatural being, who is worshipped as the controller of some part or whole of the universe or some aspect of life in the world or is the personification of some force.
User avatar #204 to #203 - syis (09/19/2012) [-]
So mankind is a God?
User avatar #207 to #204 - CoolStoryBrosky (09/19/2012) [-]
Supernatural: of, pertaining to, or being above or beyond what is natural; unexplainable by natural law or phenomena; abnormal.
User avatar #208 to #207 - syis (09/19/2012) [-]
And would you define the human mind as natural?
User avatar #209 to #208 - CoolStoryBrosky (09/19/2012) [-]
It can be explained by natural law, so yes.
User avatar #211 to #209 - syis (09/19/2012) [-]
No it can't.
Natural laws may explain the functions of the brain, but it does not explain why two twins would feel different about a same thing, nor would it explain why the human mind is so much different from the one of any other living creature.
#215 to #211 - zukabazuka ONLINE (09/19/2012) [-]
Since I have a twin brother I can say we do have different opinion about things. Why? We don't share the same brain, we don't experience the same thing when we do things. We are still 2 people and we think different. Yes we can like the same things but we will not be the same at the end.

As for human mind is so different is most likely because we where raised different than the others. It builds around how you look and act.
User avatar #212 to #211 - CoolStoryBrosky (09/19/2012) [-]
Well, actually, Psychologists have explained how the human mind is porgrammed through various systems of nature and nurture. Two twins could feel differently about the same thing because they are individuals with individual experiences.
User avatar #214 to #212 - syis (09/19/2012) [-]
Again, these are not natural things, since nothing else, in nature, would apply to this.
Human mind is an unprecedented thing in the history of Earth, this is for sure.

There is nothing natural in thinking how to finish a Tetris level or in wanting to win an argument over the Internet.

Now, I have to go to work.

Have a pleasant day, fellow supernatural being.
#216 to #214 - CoolStoryBrosky (09/19/2012) [-]
I'm slightly confused. You're rejecting belief in a deity, yet suggest that the human mind is supernatural. For the human mind to be supernatural that would mean that it wouldn't exist in nature -- which would mean something created it.
User avatar #284 to #216 - syis (09/20/2012) [-]
No, I was just reacting over the definition of "atheist" that you gave, a person that denies any form of God.
Then I asked you what was a "God", which is essential in order to understand the previous definition.
I then proceeded to prove that the human mind in itself could be seen as "God-like".

My point being that most of the so called atheists actually believe in something deep inside, at the moment they subconsciously see humans above the rest of the life forms.
As I said, I think that most atheists just don't care about something we will never prove and that don't have a direct effect on how to feed your family.
Atheists see themselves as "superior", yes, it is true.
But wouldn't anyone whose opinion is based on reasoning, proofs, and deductions feel superior than someone whose faith is based on fairy tales?

Anyway, anyone in his right mind, feels that he is right deep inside. The difference is that when atheists just joke about the meaning of life, religious people actually take it seriously. Maybe a bit too much.
User avatar #206 to #204 - doodogger (09/19/2012) [-]
You can choose to believe that.

I believe in the power of the open mind. A vast majority of both Spiritual belief systems and Philosophical schools of thought support this. To sum it up, I believe the intellectual process in whole begins with an open mind. When I'm not on the internet I'm typically reading a book -- whether it be the Qur'an or Plato's republic, the Bible or An Essay Concerning Human Understanding. However, as an intellectual I highly prize the internet as a medium for the sharing of ideals. I mean, think of how much one mind can create -- now imagine the collective minds of billions of people. There really is no limits. This is just the start of something that will change course of human interaction until the end of time as we know it. It all starts with an open mind though, friend.

I'm not going to waste your time or my time with the whole "I'm a Theist/Atheist and I'm..." ******** . Let's take a separate perspective on this.

This post can be very offensive if taken the wrong way, because it sounds like it is over generalizing religious people. Clearly though, I am sure that OP did not insist that all religious people do things like this. In light of current events and the happenings involving the US government and that of Egypt, I'm fairly certain OP instead meant examples such as those who slaughtered the US Embassy for the reason of a simple video making fun of their religion. If you honestly have eluded yourself to think all religions do this, you probably belong in a loony house.

Whereas, if you're a theist and felt the need to point out you don't do crazy **** , all I ask is: Why? Did this post really bother you enough to point out that you're religious and not completely ******* ? There are a lot of people out there who are religious and are not ******* crazy, with a little common sense and decency you'd realize OP probably wasn't singling you out directly. Take a chill pill.

The truth is, most of us have good intentions for the world. If we saw each other in our good intentions we'd realize there really is not much of a difference between an atheist and a theist. We're all good people regardless of our beliefs, and we're here to laugh at the more challenged individuals who can't accept that, not merely mimic their blind zealotry.
