The age of empiricists has not ended and will not end, and because of it atheism will continue to rise. Christianity will always, however, persist. It is like Tolkien has said, the moral and intellectual virtues that are behind myths and "faery stories" endure because that is what makes the stories relevant. Atheists never understand how a Christian can believe in a zombie who was predicted by ancient people who also worshiped wooden statues, but that was never the point in the first place. The deep convictions that make Christians is the true philosophies and ideas of Christ, whether he was historical or not.

(I am, btw, a Christian who does indeed believe in the historical Jesus, but again such an assertion is meaningless.)
