The only authority which anonymous is against is the US gov, since their actions against the free will and universal freedom has led to too many deaths

I love how these "atheists" complain and I hear all the time about how people with religion judge others and push their beliefs on others. And then these same people judge people with religion and push their beliefs of no god on others. Atheism is becoming just as much of a religion as any other. As an atheist myself I'm getting ******* tired of these morons. Just like how atheists have uneducated ******** , religion has awful people as well. People need to stop classifying people by the lowest common denominator in their group, shut the **** up, and get along.

Christians are not stupid, biblical literalists are stupid. Just believing in god doesnt make you stupid, believing in things the bible says are true that are proveably false is stupid. Any atheist who spouts off information they learned from listening to someone is just as bad a religious person who spouts off information their doctrine fed them.

As awful as it sounds, I'd rather a religious zealot force his beliefs down my throat than an atheist.

It might be because I'm an optimist, but I never quite found the thought of oblivion after death to be very appealing. I'll just take my chances with the illogical belief in an omnipotent being, desirable afterlife, and the necessity to show kindness to everyone (asshats included).

"Necessity to show kindness to everyone"

That's inherent to human nature, not to being religious so I don't see why that is a plus towards theism.

Technically atheism is the better choice for a desirable afterlife since a lot of religions have punishments for believing in other gods, but not for disbelieving in one. So statistically, atheists have better chances of getting into paradise in a theist mindset.

And just because you don't find something appealing doesn't mean it's not the reality of the matter.

I would much rather have someone EXPLAIN to me the logical reality and truth of the situation rather than simply follow a false story because it makes me feel good. That isn't how we progress as a society.

Just Saiyan.

Necessity to show kindness to everyone asin we believe our God loves everyone but not their sin, and that we should love one another.

Also, that was some really ******** logic with the whole "atheism is better than being a theist" afterlife thing. Full retard stuff right there.
#67 to #45 - anon (05/06/2013) [-]
religion is really just a moral code.

most people argue with the origin of such a code, but there are those who argue with the code itself. (much of it isn't argued, for example, the bible says to keep a spade with you, to bury your poop. nobody does this anymore, and nobody enforces this. along with proper shaving and etc.)

my point: to grow, we need to debate.
but, we're still retarded as a whole, so we can't debate without murder and rape and genocide.

as a final point: we ain't going anywhere but a final death caused by our own immaturity, ***** . enjoy the ride!
#101 to #34 - anon (05/06/2013) [-]
Atheism does not say that it is oblivion after death. The common misconception of atheism is that you have to believe something. Atheism is not about believing what other people want you to believe. Believe what you want and do what you want, just because everyone does something does not mean you have to do it.
User avatar #114 to #34 - snaresinger (05/06/2013) [-]
So you'd rather be obnoxious and overbearing than deal with a slightly depressing yet rather reassuring thought.

I can understand where you're coming from in trying to avoid nihilism, because I'm that way myself sometimes, but when you say you'd rather shove things down my throat, I lose you.
#140 to #114 - fuckthemhipsters (05/06/2013) [-]
I'm only saying, if you bring the two down to their basics then theism comes off as much more desirable, in my opinion at least.

Atheism: Existence began with an event we cannot explain without superstition. Humanity originated after years and years of evolution despite the odds against them, have no obligations to a moral code, and cease to exist after death.

Theism: Existence began with an event sparked by an omnipotent being, whom oversaw the progression of evolution and protected its creation until they could fend for themselves. It branded its creation with a natural law and morality, enforces the practices of those laws and morals, and grants those who follow those laws and morals a desirable afterlife whilst punishing those who do not.

But that's just my opinion, man.

I just want to correct somethings you said.
1) The Big Bang in no way relies on superstition. Physicists are right now testing and hypothesizing on the interactions between matter and antimatter. When matter and antimatter interact the cancel each other out. We are now looking at how that process could happen in reverse, and nothing could split into matter and antimatter. I'm not a physicist and its very complicated but I encourage you to read up on it, because its very interesting.
2) The odds were not against the development of humanity. There were no odds because Evolution is not a random process. The gene mutations that occur are random but the selection for those genes and the general progression from one species to another is not random. Don't mistake me because I'm not saying that there is a goal to Evolution, rather that it is not an entirely random process.
3) We do have obligations to a moral code, but rather than that code being an absolute moral code laid down by an omnipresent creator, it is developed through reason and rationality in conjunction with society and culture. We do not get our morals from religion, religion gets its morals from us.
4) Why should we get to continue to exist after death but no other species does? It is the height of human arrogance to say that we are so smart and special and so much more developed than those other animals that we must have some sort of afterlife. And if every species does have an afterlife then the place where you go is crowded indeed, considering how many species and individuals have come and gone in this world.
User avatar #141 to #140 - snaresinger (05/06/2013) [-]
It is indeed a comforting and desirable mindset. However, atheism simply looks at the facts as presented by the evidence, no matter how depressing they may be. But I understand where you're coming from. Just don't be a dick about it (which you aren't, of course, I'm just saying).

Throughouthistory and still today, religions have been divisive, domineering and murderous to those that don't believe. Now, thanks to science, many mysteries that were considered gods work have been shown to have naturalistic causes. Why should any unproven notion be able to be the basis for law? If one person believes fairies are talking to them, they get called insane, if many people believe it, it's called religion.

I'm not claiming **** . I'm not all knowing nor do I claim to be the smart. If anything I would say I'm average to above average intelligence. I have a general opinion on things but I'm not going to force my believe down someone throat nor have I ever. I'm not saying all atheists are douchebags I have friends that are atheists and they don't give two ***** what I believe nor do I care if they don't have a religion. I'm not mad though it does seem like that but, I'd like to set the record straight.

I apologise on behalf of all religious people for all the douchebags loud assholes but we are not them. When you have a large following there will be a greater number of douchebags that follow as well. Remember that we are all humans and there will always be a dicks in religion and non religious group of people. Nor are all atheists religious hating fiends that just bash on religion and telling them to stop believing.

People that say religion is the source of war, no it it s not. It's a poor excuse to go to war and just like video games getting blamed for **** you guys should dig deeper then the surface that you all been bragging about. Just saying it causes wars is just as shallow thinking as saying video games causes violence because the crazy kid played video games.
I am a man of science and religion. I'd like to see the day when we prove god isn't real or real. For now I believe there is a god and the reasons are my own.
