It's killing me seeing as I can't really support my own "brethren" because they go about things in mean-spirited ways. We are supposed to show the blind believers that we're better than that. The organization American Atheists really gets under my ******* skin.
My view on it, religion is an insignificant detail. If other Atheists claim it's so small, why do they feel the need to fight it on every front? Just as religion is a waste of thought, so are the little crusades being held against it (War on Christmas). That energy spent trying to get that Nativity scene out of the public eye could be spent doing something more fruitful. Rather then outlaw religion, we should be focused on showing them that we can do great things, despite how popular forms of media like to portray us.
Despite ALL of that **** they put me through (loss of friends, family members hold it against me), I still will not hold it against them to believe. Unless their Scientologists. **** those guys.

Religion is the biggest lie that exists in the world and we supposed to just go along with brainwashing of billions of people like nothing is happening, so few sectarian leaders could profit from that?. No thanks.

Incorrect, Atheism is a BELIEF as well as long as they cannot prove that all religions are totally wrong. Until something is proven and or disproven, it is not fact, Atheism must do BOTH to every religion in the world before it is fact.
#91 to #80 - curses (01/02/2013) [-]
It's religion that has to prove that their God exist. You are the ones who claim he exist after all.
You don't ask the common man to disprove medicine. Ask the ones who made it prove that it works.

You claim you have a Godly being on your side but when we ask for proof it's just "Ask him yourself" which we do but get no answer. Then they don't really have much of a answer to give back for it.

Also we can prove religion wrong by pointing out every plot hole in their holy scripture. This is a valid way to disprove a religion.

A God would not have a book full of lies if it wanted people to follow it. It would be available to EVERYONE so that everyone has a chance to become redeemed and it would also be able to be read by anyone. Otherwise God would be a dick.

But the biggest reason why God is losing is because he hasn't done anything to prove himself in over 1500 years or so. You'd think he'd be angry when we made sky scrapers again because the Tower of Babel was destroyed for this very reason.
Sex, drugs and alcohol are almost too common yet he doesn't do a thing about it. The flood was to get rid of those people.

Well the flood itself never happened either. Scientifically a fact btw.

But don't think Scientist don't want Gods around. They'd be very happy if there was one because it could mean they could explore so much more and learn who this God is and how everything started.

So the proof we have against God.
Been quiet for well over 1500 years.
His book is full of errors.
Never returns any calls from people who ask for it. This comes from a God that knows what everyone does at any given time.

So saying we have no proof is kinda wrong. It's more like you guys have no proof that he exist.

Ok I already discussed below that I don't take the bible as historical fact, in fact there are many Christians who don't believe it to be fact either.
User avatar #84 to #80 - blueeyeswhitevenom (12/26/2012) [-]
That's where you're wrong. I'm not going to get involved in the whole religious ********* again, but consider the following: you say you have to prove something in order for it to be a fact. That's where i disagree. There is only one truth and one truth only. Whetter this is proven or not. For example: back when people thought the earth was flat, it was round anyway. It has been all the time. That is a fact, no matter if it was proven or not. Right now, either there is a god or there isn't. Neither one is proven, but only one is already a fact. We just don't know witch one yet. (Though i'm pretty sure i know) Doesn't matter if we can prove it or not. That's just the arrogance of the human race, thinking that something is only true if we prove it. Reality doesn't adjust to us...
User avatar #85 to #84 - blueeyeswhitevenom (12/26/2012) [-]
sorry for bad english btw
User avatar #87 to #85 - ultimtemplar (12/26/2012) [-]
Also that goes for Vice Versa, meaning that until religion is proven correct, Atheism will be natural answer and I am not trying to say that it's trash. As a logical thinker it is hard for me to side with religion, all I have is my faith. I have faith that God is real, you have faith that God is not, thus atheism until proven is a belief. This is what I was trying to show.
User avatar #89 to #87 - blueeyeswhitevenom (12/26/2012) [-]
I think i can agree with that one too. I just hate it when people call atheism a religion.
A belief however is a correct statement.
User avatar #86 to #85 - ultimtemplar (12/26/2012) [-]
Yes, but unlike the point where the earth was PROVEN round, Atheists have yet to be PROVEN right, meaning that you DON'T KNOW beyond your own feeling and instinct that you are correct. I'm sorry but until atheism is PROVEN correct, there will NEVER be a winner to this argument!
User avatar #88 to #86 - blueeyeswhitevenom (12/26/2012) [-]
100% agreed.
User avatar #90 to #88 - ultimtemplar (12/26/2012) [-]
I can honestly and respectfully say that I appreciate you agreeing with me. This argument will likely (although sadly) plague our great grandchildren as well, as long as something isn't found or some technology can't completely wipe away the God theory it will for sure. I think more atheists and christians should learn to get along despite their differences. Perhaps we can get the best from both and the worst of neither!
#82 to #80 - anonymous (12/25/2012) [-]
Incorrect, atheists can provide proof that religions are not true because they've been studied (their genesis, motivations of founders, evolution of beliefs, ways of spreading, psychology of groups, methods for staying together etc.), and you can see how the god was invented, why, why people still fall for that etc., you can read on it if you are interested . So yelling "...and prove me wrong!" when it's YOUR job to give evidence to YOUR supreme being theory, when we already have evidence that that theory is fake does you no good.
User avatar #83 to #82 - ultimtemplar (12/25/2012) [-]
I am not vouching for a religion in my statement, I am simply stating that you cannot prove that religions are incorrect. What if God used scientific methods to create the universe and the world through the big bang? What if after billions of years life formed on a blue and green planets, and when God decided it was the right time, he revealed himself to the people, thus providing the "Genesis" of the God belief? However, since atheists only true tactic is to point at the bible and say "Wrong!" when many Christians actually believe the book is outdated and past its use, we can't POSSIBLY believe that God used science because all of us filthy Christians are so stuck on our beliefs (the bible). You have no proof against God, I have no proof for him, so until we find out when we die... oh yes that's right, if I'm correct then I will be in heaven, if I am wrong it won't matter because I will cease to exist. I do not harbor any ill will against you or any non-believers, I just want both sides to leave each other alone!

Everyone in the car is drunk, and everyone thinks they're good enough to drive

Oh wow, lot of angry atheists...
#32 to #22 - anonymous (12/06/2012) [-]
Let's see what merriam-webster has to say about the definition of religion:
a : the state of a religious <a nun in her 20th year of religion>
b (1) : the service and worship of God or the supernatural (2) : commitment or devotion to religious faith or observance

Atheism doesn't fit there.

: a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices

Atheism doesn't have practices or religious attitudes, as any atheist only shares non belief in gods with other atheists. Doesn't fit there too.

archaic : scrupulous conformity : conscientiousness

Atheism doesn't fit here either...

: a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith

Atheism is not a system of beliefs, it's the lack of belief, so I guess we're over. Atheism isn't a religion, so your post is wrong and you should feel bad.
User avatar #67 to #32 - captainfuckitall (12/06/2012) [-]
And I would say Atheism fits in the second definition, after-all, most Atheists almost seem to worship the scientific method
User avatar #34 to #32 - snakefire ONLINE (12/06/2012) [-]
if you defend atheism religiously it gets to the point where you might as well consider it one
