Disappointed at a lot of the red comments here. I'm a comp sci major, but I personally don't see anything wrong with being an art major. People like to make fun of them, but if you like painting, or writing music or making films, why the **** can't you pursue your own dreams? In fact, you don't even need to go to college if you don't want to. What's wrong with being a plumber or a gardener? Everyone is obsessed with going to a good university as if your life will crash and burn if you don't go to one. Even high school classes are all about college prep, not about teaching you fundamental skills you need in life. Disgusted that some users will put down people who are just doing what they like. Not everyone has to go to college and get a business or a law degree. I'd rather live my life doing what I love than just meekly getting a more "profitable" degree for something I don't care about and don't wish to spend 40 years of my life on.

The thing about art majors isn't that they're "wasting their education" it's that they're wasting their money on that education. Obviously someone who can ******* draw has talent. I mean RAW ******* talent. I can barely even write, like to the point where people have told me I should go to med school just from how rediculous my writing looks. Anyone who can paint, or draw, or sculpt. or mold, or whatever, has a lot of serious talent I don't have.

Here's the thing, though...I'm a biology major because when I go to class, I'm told of ideas, and reactions, and interactions, and facts that I can't get without going out and seeing it for myself, which requires more time and money than the entire country even has. I go to class because the field of biology alone is based off of 100 years of discovery that are already proven, and are better served in your subconscious where they can be used to infer NEW discoveries. Art is the creation of complex...things...from simple materials, much like Science is the creation of complex ideas from simple ideas.

Art, though? You mix small things with what's already available in your head. In science, you mix facts that are given to you with the new things you find in nature. For art, you buy one at a hobby shop, and the ther you're born with. In science, BOTH of those things are based on schooling and technique (technique that ALSO needs to be taught.) Tink about what you do in art achool...you art...do you know where else you can art? At home...for free...Yes, paint costs money, but how much money do you think a CENTRIFUGE costs? (Plus, college DOESN'T cost money?)

So I don't disrespect art majors because I don't value their talent...I disrespect art majors because they decided to spend erroneous amounts of money, money they said they didn't have for art supplies, to have a professor tell them why green goes well with red, and do **** they can do with what they already have at home.

Most people can't even tie their shoes straight and keep the loops the same size, let alone generate anything close to venerable in the field of art. Most people find it impossible to accept their own shortcomings, and given that the art major bashing has existed for such a long god damn time it gives them a way to vent their frustration with their ****** right hand and feel a bit better.
Like you said, College should be about following your dreams. Something most people don't understand, that to get in to a prestigious college based on art or music is one of the most difficult challenges one can ever face, and to follow the courses that are thrown at an artist, a musician, or whatever it may be are even worse.
Being on the internet eliminates the mutual respect people give to one another because they personally know eachother. FJ is a *********** of this kind of disrespect. There's no consequences, so people can say to others whatever they want, and when a hivemind goes off, there's an even larger window to have people act like douches.

Mark Crilley. He does the same thing with a King of Hearts, and it looks flawless. He's a fantastic artist.
