When I was a kid, I thought his name was just Samuel Jackson, and everyone just pronounced his name in a really bad ass way. I felt like a dumb ass when someone finally corrected me after I kept saying "Samu-EL Jackson."

Just so you know, this actually makes some sense:

The japanese don't have singular letters but an assortement of sounds (e.g. ka ki ku ko ke) the "n" is the only single letter "sound" japanese has, apart from vowels.

to say: the japanese approximation of cleaning is ku li (pronounced lee) ni n gu or: Kuliningu, which as we see now is not that far away from cunnilingus

also I enjoyed this joke a lot :>

~ Herbert von Kantenschwan

User avatar #64 to #9 - subcelestial (04/16/2013) [-]
Actually, it's ku-ri-ni-gu-su or ku-ri-ni-gu, since there isn't the sound "l" in their language.
User avatar #24 to #9 - thatnerdyguy (04/15/2013) [-]
So she tried to say クリニング (kuriningu) but said クニリングス (kuniringusu)?
I can see it.

English is **** hard
Read and Lead
Read and Lead
Two completely different phrases

Go to Japanese and every sound is definite
It's just あいうえお
Not
あ=CHING CHONG BUT ALSO LING LONG

Yeah that **** gets you down once in a while, I'm 250 in and **** man, it's rough, I'll pull through some day, perhaps I'll do some vocab.
#31 to #30 - broorb (04/15/2013) [-]
you'll get there - so long as you got your kana and kata down, kanji becomes pretty rhythmic.

APART FROM KANJI FOR NAMES
**** that too
User avatar #32 to #31 - Johnsfer (04/15/2013) [-]
**** eh, imagine
"Yeah my name has the kanji for river, etc."
But hey, if you wanna learn, you gotta do what you gotta do.

How are you teaching yourself anything in particular you're using?
User avatar #207 to #42 - Johnsfer (04/17/2013) [-]
I used Remembering the Kanji, and for vocab, I just looked up words, I used an SRS, something like Anki, it's like flashcards, helps you remember easier, but different strokes, some people don't like it, some do, so try it out, see if you like it.

Kinda funny when the Japanese language has so many words that sound alike that it's a miracle **** like this doesn't happen to them.
User avatar #62 to #57 - jaymichaeltwothree (04/16/2013) [-]
Not to mention they have like 3 or 4 alphabets
User avatar #63 to #62 - azraelthemage (04/16/2013) [-]
And they constantly make up words that stem from other languages.
User avatar #111 to #63 - Keoul (04/16/2013) [-]
Well english does that as well.
English is basically a conglomeration of stolen words, cafe for one and a great many others are taken from latin words.
User avatar #127 to #111 - azraelthemage (04/16/2013) [-]
Well, to be fair, a lot of languages borrow from others.
User avatar #130 to #127 - Keoul (04/16/2013) [-]
Yeah, hmm I wonder if chinese borrows, it is a pretty old language after all.
User avatar #131 to #130 - azraelthemage (04/16/2013) [-]
The Chinese actually have several spoken languages. Mandarin being the most popular and widespread.
User avatar #132 to #131 - Keoul (04/16/2013) [-]
Mandarin and Cantonese are the two biggest one but they are simple 2 different ways to pronounce the same words.

The writing are identical and I was wondering if they had any foreign words integrated.
#154 to #132 - theaveragenader (04/16/2013) [-]
Japanese student here. Japanese has 3 alphabets, katakana, hiragana, kanji. Katakana is the spelling used for non japanese words. School bus is Skooru bussu. Hiragana is used for any normal character/word. Watashi (me.) Kanji is the complex characters that stem from china, and are used to replace hiragana. So there is Wa ta shi, and a kanji for Watashi. From reading the different forms of kanji or through context, you are able to distinguish between what the word could be.
#196 to #154 - John Cena (04/16/2013) [-]
Wouldn't school bus be sukuuru basu?

One thing i have always wondered is what english sounds like to non-english speaking people.

like german sounds angry
french sounds classy as ****
and spanish sounds passionate

i wonder if we sound slow or retarded to non-english people
User avatar #182 to #71 - evilanakie ONLINE (04/16/2013) [-]
it sounds morbidly slow
as if you must explain every detail about the subject and with the speed of a sloth
User avatar #193 to #71 - lolokoko **User deleted account** (04/16/2013) [-]
It sounds....neutral, in a way.

Depends in the tone of voice of the person speaking.
#186 to #71 - John Cena (04/16/2013) [-]
actually spanish just sounds like someone's not mowing my lawn...
User avatar #87 to #71 - musalana (04/16/2013) [-]
depends on who speaks it. from what I've heard (french pen pall) Americans and some Canadians can be compared to the South Park boys.
User avatar #146 to #71 - roflsaucer (04/16/2013) [-]
According to one of my asian teachers, English sounds really flat/bland. Like, it doesn't have any emotion to it, it's just words.
