Would you watch anime if everyone looked like this?
User avatar #161 to #106 - drainbramage (05/25/2013) [-]
Because the want to make the eyes big enough to convey emotion, when you watch an Anime, focus on the eyes when their expression changes, then look at the rest of the face, 9 times out of 10 the eyes are the only thing to change, the mouth changes too, but not that much, unless it's like Naruto were it zooms into the mouth for whatever reason.

The roots of the genre are based on Bambi and Snow White, and evolved from there. I'm serious.

Not every anime takes place in Asia

As far as Magi goes, this specific anime takes place in an alternate version of the ancient old world.

it appeals to the Americans if the anime characters look American.

Oh my god demonicstphenson, you can't ask people why they're not Asian!

Well it's not currently like this, it's more varied these days. But initially anime was kind of inspired by westeners and their larger eyes and the school sailor uniforms were also inspired by the western sailors that came in.

Just because they don't look like your stereotypical slanted eyed, yellow skinned Asian doesn't mean they aren't. Anime has people from all different countries and origins in them and they all look like people, just as they should

If they can give some people a different skin color it's not wrong to think they could at least give the asians mongoloid eyes (Give or take some indians). It's not a stereotype. It's fact. Like how africans are brown.
User avatar #133 to #118 - randumbgamer (05/25/2013) [-]
Yes but that's basically saying that all Asians have tiny slanted eyes when they don't, yes they probably could have given them a different skin tone at least but adhering to the Asians look like this so that's how these characters should look is a stereotype

Larger eyes are more appealing and better at showing emotion. I doubt there are any white people with eyes that big and have natural hair in the shades most anime do. It's all done for appeal.

True. Actually there's some sick **** where girls use eye glue and contacts and **** to get bigass eyes.

1. Magi doesn't take place in Asia, let alone Japan.
2. They are Japanese most of the time.
