Yes Gohan grew up to be a disappointment, but after Old Kai's unlcok ability turned Gohan into Mystic Gohan he was the strongest non-fused/non-absorbtion character in DBZ.

No. Going mystic made him more powerful than any super saiyan transformation. Plus, if he ever used both at the same time, it would destroy the earth.

It wasn't that he couldn't go Super Saiyan, its just that his Mystic form was more powerful than his Super Saiyan 2. So it would have made him weaker to fight as a saiyan (like when he was fighting buu).

I thought Mystic was just a general power up, like Guru's "Hidden Power", and that Super Saiyan was just a power up of their current power, like the Kaioken so they would always get "stronger" whenever they used it.
