I have no problem with gay romance being in games, its when you force it DOWN peoples throats is when I have a problem with it. First of all gay people in real life aren't as stereotypical as they are in bioware's games, they are normal just like everyone else. Secondly we have the issue where you give gameplay benefits if you have gay sex with someone, like what in the **** , ex in dragon age 2 you either have sex with anders or your other choices make you look like an asshat. Lastly, gay people are a minority, in bioware games it seems like you gathered all the trans and gay people around you in that world. Why does almost everyone have to be gay? Why can't we have some normal gay people and normal straight people instead of sterotypes? Zevran from dragon age origins was gay but his character was awesome and very well done. Why can't Bioware get that making good characters first instead of focusing on their sexual preferences should be the priority?

Two words: Steve Cortez.

Your argument is dumb.

How was Anders stereotypically gay? I mean I never followed that path with him but he seemed quite normal to me...

Every aspect of people are sensationalized and overdone in videogames. The hyper-intensity is what draws us to this **** .

You don't like it being "forced" down your throat? Forgive me for feeling no pity for you. As a gay guy I've had straight relationships that I can't relate to stuffed down my throat every day of my life, and I don't go around complaining about it.

We get it, there's more of you. But the point is what you're feeling so angry about is what being gay feels like, only not just with bioware. Its a perpetual every day thing.

So it sucks your feelings are hurt by seeing relationships you don't understand. But I feel like if I can get over it, you should be able to as well.

O so your mentality is that if I have to suffer everyone has to suffer? Note that I am not against gay romances but Idk how you as a gay person like how Bioware potrays homosexual people. Bioware's gay characters in dragon age 2 at least are the most sterotypical I have ever seen and are an insult to the gay community. I am all for different romances but don't make every character in the game bi sexual and don't make them stereotypes. And tbh I have never seen any game that forces heterosexual relationships unless its a linear game, bioware on the other hand actively penalized people in dragon age 2 if they did not initiate a gay romance with certain characters such as adding massive rivalry points.

Actually I was impressed on how well they handled Steve and Samantha in Mass Effect 3, they were characters that you would have no idea were gay, until Steve opens up to you and Shepard comes on to Samantha. The major complaint is that they turned Kaiden bisexual, which wouldn't be a problem if they did the same to Ashley, due to the fact that these are supposed to be mirror characters.

One thing I have to point out is that Zevran was actually bi, as he could romance a male or female warden; but if anything, I think that adds to your point. Bioware is extremely hesitant to include characters that are gay/straight. It seems like every single character in all of their rpg's HAS to be bisexual.

Leliana was gay, Morrigan & Alistar were straight.
Traynor was gay in ME3, and so was Esteban (Cortez?).
ME3 and DA1, and actually all the ME games had exclusively straight options, and ME3 had exclusively gay options.

Leliana was bi. But I see your point. I don't agree with OP, just pointing it out.

was she really bi? It's been ages since I did a play through of the game. I had thought she was only a female romance option. I didn't even try with my male play through because of that.

Zevran was my favorite, I never got into a romantic relationship with him, It was just fun having him around. I usually had my party consist of Morrigan and Alistair so I could listen to them bitch at each other, and Zevran for the hell of it
#225 to #33 - anon (06/28/2013) [-]
That is the best party I can think of.

They did have two only straight characters (Morrigan and Alistair) in Origins

No, you could still have a homosexual relationships with them. I remember because on my first playthrough, Alistar would constantly hit on me (male warden). My point was, Bioware insists on companions being able to have a relationship with both genders, instead of having some characters that are bisexual/homosexual, and some that are heterosexual.

It's also probably partly so you can project yourself more onto your character without being limited in who you romance. Kind of like how the description of Bella (from what i'm told) in the Twilight books was rather vague so that you could more easily imagine yourself as Bella.

My point being tho is that it never got in the way like it did in Dragon age 2. There were long processes to actually romance someone instead of talking to them a few times or them hitting on you instead.

Well Dragon Age 2 sucked in general. The gay characters aren't even that big of deal compared to other parts of the game.
User avatar #35 to #34 - appleisland (06/27/2013) [-]
hmmm.... just looked it up. You are right about Alistair, but Morrigan is straight
User avatar #37 to #35 - trollmetoday ONLINE (06/27/2013) [-]
I think Morrigan's sexuality might have to do with the part of the story where you can have a child with her, not sure though.

Might be. But that still means I was half right about my earlier comment.
