Dubbed is better IMO. The Japanese voices just sound either ridiculously high pitched or stupidly low and they are very, very annoying.

Mind you this might have something to do with the fact my extremely annoying housemate insists on watching ******* animes all the time
#76 to #71 - Rascal (04/23/2014) [-]
Funamation owns rights to dub on Attack on Titan. I loved how well they did on the dub for FMA and FMA Brotherhood so I am gonna wait for the dub to watch it with my brother.
User avatar #87 to #71 - atrocitustheking (04/23/2014) [-]
The high pitched voices are the main reason I prefer dubbed. It's like nails on chalkboard to me.

Dubbed usually sucks dick but there is a few exceptions where i prefer the dubbed one. Fullmetal alchemist is certainly one of them.

Full metal was ******* amazing dubbed!, I tend to watch dubs, couse I have a hard time whatching subbed since, I get bored with just whatching.

Cromartie High also has good dubs

Only three series ever I've liked the dubbed version more: FMA:B and FMA , cowboy beebop and Dragon Ball. That ******* voice on Goku in the subbed version

I prefer dubbed as well. Japanese people all sound alike to me. Plus I like actually watching the ******* scenes and not reading. I watch movies to watch, not to read.
User avatar #8 to #5 - atrocitustheking (04/22/2014) [-]
Personally, the girls they hire for Japanese voice-acting all seem to have irritatingly high-pitched voices. It's grating to me. I later read that it's an affectation that Japanese women do to make themselves more attractive to men. If that's true, then someone should tell them that it has the opposite effect on me.
User avatar #160 to #5 - anonefgthree (04/23/2014) [-]
Are you 12?
User avatar #176 to #160 - thegoblingamer (04/23/2014) [-]
20, but good call on that. Only 12 year olds don't care to read while they watch.
User avatar #180 to #176 - anonefgthree (04/23/2014) [-]
Only a 12 year old could care so little about quality he would subject himself to a ******** version of something because he can't read quickly enough
#220 to #180 - blancka (04/23/2014) [-]
Here's a tip.

If you need subtitles to understand what's being said, your opinion on the quality of voice acting is non-existent. You have no ******* clue whether it's good or bad because you can't tell what they're saying. You don't know how it should be conveyed, or how it ******* is for that matter given different dialects and such.

You see you're the type of person who transcends the image of anime fan to fit into the group of people known as weaboo faggots.
User avatar #223 to #220 - anonefgthree (04/23/2014) [-]
You can easily tell whether the tone of what they're saying fits the dialogue. You can tell that an American dub actor is bad at what he does.

I do know Jap to a certain extent, but not enough to watch without subs.

I'm no weeaboo, it would ******* suck to live in Japan.
User avatar #225 to #223 - anonefgthree (04/23/2014) [-]
Oh, forgot to add, dubs there's a lot of stuff lost in translation with dubs, such as when a character is using honorifics or pronounces the name wrong of someone or something.
User avatar #217 to #180 - thatguywhoposts (04/23/2014) [-]
Translation: Stop liking what I don't like
User avatar #224 to #217 - anonefgthree (04/23/2014) [-]
Translation: Don't pick an inferior way of watching something that would lose meaning otherwise
User avatar #226 to #224 - thatguywhoposts (04/23/2014) [-]
You calling dubbed 'inferior' is an opinion, stop saying it as if it's fact.

People like different **** , get over it.
User avatar #230 to #226 - anonefgthree (04/23/2014) [-]
Let me guess, you also stream anime on You need to login to view this link don't you.
User avatar #231 to #230 - thatguywhoposts (04/23/2014) [-]
Interesting guess, but no, I don't.

How about you stop being a weeaboo and let people enjoy watching anime whichever way they like.

Let me guess, you also use honorifics in every day conversations, don't you, anonefgthree-kun?
User avatar #232 to #231 - anonefgthree (04/23/2014) [-]
I'm just here to correct wrong opinions thatguy-kun. I'm just saying there are some things that can almost objectively be called better than other things, even though it should be subjective
.
User avatar #233 to #232 - thatguywhoposts (04/24/2014) [-]
But anonefgthree-san you must see that an opinion is just what someone thinks, a personal preference. How can you say that someone's personal preference is wrong?
User avatar #234 to #233 - anonefgthree (04/24/2014) [-]
Because thatguy-chan, I in fact have the perfect opinion, so every other opinion is wrong.
User avatar #235 to #234 - thatguywhoposts (04/24/2014) [-]
Okay now you're just ******* with me.
User avatar #236 to #235 - anonefgthree (04/24/2014) [-]
Yeah that reply was, the rest weren't.
User avatar #182 to #180 - thegoblingamer (04/23/2014) [-]
I have no trouble reading. It's like if I was watching regular television and put subtitles on and turned off the audio. I don't see the point. It's the same goddamn story-line just delivered in a language I can actually understand.
User avatar #106 to #5 - blokrokker (04/23/2014) [-]
I only watch the dub if it's good. Like Fate/Stay Night, I was enjoying the dub until one of the MAJOR characters started talking. Her voice was like nails on a ******* chalkboard. Went straight to the ******* subs after that.
User avatar #111 to #106 - awesomanium (04/23/2014) [-]
It's like that for me, but with Japanese voices.
I just don't like the voices a lot of the itme.
User avatar #114 to #111 - blokrokker (04/23/2014) [-]
For me, I can't really tell if the Japanese voice acting is bad unless it's AWFUL. I've heard people rail on about a particular anime's voice acting and I'm just thinking "It's not so bad, especially compared to others I've watched."
User avatar #116 to #114 - awesomanium (04/23/2014) [-]
I think it's that I don't really like the language and I'd rather listen to English voices, rather than listen to Japanese voices I don't understand, while reading the subtitles and listening to other sounds.
User avatar #97 to #5 - soopfox (04/23/2014) [-]
I second this
User avatar #208 to #5 - shooptube (04/23/2014) [-]
Well normally, when dialogue happens, nothing else is really happening. Hell even in action scenes they stand where they are and explain what they're about to do then do it.
User avatar #212 to #208 - thegoblingamer (04/23/2014) [-]
Then why have to read it? I just don't see why people prefer it subbed than dubbed. If it's the same **** , just spoken in another language, and you don't have to read, then yay.
User avatar #213 to #212 - shooptube (04/23/2014) [-]
Well i watch sub cause english voice actors in anime make me cringe. I guess i just like the jap voices better.

I'll watch a dub if it's good. If there's no dub then only choice is subbed.
I think I prefer subbed though since to me, the voices sound a lot more believable and emotion filled. A good example is Attack on Titan and Kill la Kill. I will be watching the dubbed version of AoT though.

See, that's what I was going for first, but I eventually decided on Confession Bear as I felt it was more appropriate. I don't necessarily think dubs are better, I just know that I, personally like them better. The "confession" part comes in because I know that of those who are really into anime, a vast number of them say that the subs are superior. I've only watched two series, so I can't really make a comment as to which is better. All I can say is that I like hearing it in my native language. The reason being that a lot of the female voices are really high pitched and irritating to me.
Oh God, that ended up way longer than expected, please don't tl;dr
User avatar #202 to #90 - syluxsc (04/23/2014) [-]
Too long, did read.
#222 to #90 - blancka (04/23/2014) [-]

Confession bear was not more appropriate. Confession = admittance to something you did.

#131 - IamSofaKingdom (04/23/2014) [-]
Depends. On some the dub is lazy or the anime could be very word oriented on its jokes and that doesn't translate well.

Cowboy Bebop, FMA, DBZ, and in my personal opinion gurren Lagann were all WAY better in their dub forms.

P.S. There are many cartoons in the US where the voice acting is fine. People just get more upset over anime.

Gurren Lagann dub was fantastic. One of the only dubs where the English voice actor doesn't ruin a role that involves a lot of yelling. I felt like many of the impactful moments weren't as hard hitting in japanese.

That's one of the parts I think of specifically when I enjoy the English dub. Simon and Kittan both had amazing English Giga Drill break lines.

I dislike Dubbed Anime, always watch Subbed.
Still, if you prefer Dubbed, fine by me.
#41 - bluemagebrilly (04/23/2014) [-]
It kind of depends on the anime.

Naruto dubbed was... decent, but they cut out a lot of the content with the blood and cursing. Which is understandable, since they had it on when kids were on, but subbed was a bit more realistic... You know, about as realistic as Naruto could get.

DBZ is another like that, but not entirely. They cut out some blood and cursing in the english version, but the voice actors were a /lot/ better too. Goku didn't sound like a 5 yearold girl and Piccolo/Vegeta had good deep voices. Jap didn't have that.

One Piece dubbed... was awful. Now, that was mostly because of 4kids censoring everything, but the voice actors weren't that great either. Sanji had a weird voice that changed like 3-4 times and Nami was squeaky. The subbed one was a lot better voice-actor wise and didn't censor much. I can only think of Whitebeard's wounds being censored in the anime.

Now, that being said, past the censoring there is a lot of dubs that are pretty okay. Cowboy Beebop, DBZ, Bleach (Kind of?), Rave Master (From what I can remember at least), and the Samurai show... Samurai Cham-poo or something like that. That show was confusing, but the voice acting was pretty good.

I used popular ones because they were all I could think of.

death note* not watched personally but heard great things about the dub
Kekkaishi.
full metal alchemist
also not technically "anime" afro samurai i think deserves a honorable mention

that's pretty much all i can think of, but i am a bigger fan of subs so i would hazard a guess that my additions not much
