An earthquake devastated the patios and lawn chairs of America. We must never forget what happened that fateful day.
#281 to #210 - meirzin (09/02/2012) [-]
There was a very widespread earthquake, it was felt hundreds of miles and lasted almost a minutes, however there was actually very little damage done to anything. I remember the earthquake because I was on my bed at the time, it had wheels, and my bed was rolling around during the quake as I played xbox.

There was an earthquake in America that the media made a big deal about, and then it had the nerve to knock over that poor defenseless lawn chair.
User avatar #460 to #453 - irevolutions (09/02/2012) [-]
oh, yeah, I actually remember that earthquake. Just didn't remember the date, I remember I was eating pasta when it happened. I live in Delaware, a few hundred miles from the epicenter, so it wasn't too bad.

I live in Chicago, so I didn't get hit at all. I just saw the massive boners the press had beforehand and that look of shame afterwards.

Meh, the stupidity of mankind is still quite visible even to this day where information is avaible to you in many forms, these are not the dark ages.

Honestly, it's hard to be surprised at it anymore, the only reason I still do get surprised is my own inability to fathom the vast ways of stupidity to take shape.

Honestly, I'm just wondering what keeps each and everyone of us from going off on each other like in ''God Bless America''

Yellowstone park is a national forest famous for it's geothermal activity such as colorful boiling pools and such that it get's from sitting on top of one of the world's largest caldera volcano's.

A caldera when it erupts collapses onto the magma pool beneath the surface, rather than the magma erupting through the volcano. The collapsing debris greatly spikes the magma pressure and the whole thing explodes in a much more violent explosion all at once.
#47 to #45 - mcronq (09/02/2012) [-]
If it goes off a good chunk of America will vanish and the world will be blanked with ash and carbon dioxide to rival many similar phases that caused ice ages or extinctions.

Yeah, if you live within 1000 miles of it you'd be covered in rock and debris. I pulled a qoute about it's blown 3 times before at "2.1 million years ago, 1.2 million years ago and 640,000 years ago. The three eruptions, respectively, were about 6,000, 700 and 2,500 times larger than the May 18, 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens in Washington state." Crazy, best not to think about it.

Yeah, but it would be a dark time for the world, literally not metaphorically. You'd get probably a few weeks of darkness, then the world would change drastically; climate changes, food-shortages, ect.

Nah, no estimation, not enough explosions to make a guess. The first gap was .9 million years, the second was like .6 million years, its been .6 million years now since that last explosion, but that's not enough to draw conclusions from. There has been increased bulging in yellowstone since about 2004, with 2010 seeing about a 10 inch raise. The experts say that the magma pocket that was inflating was 10km down though so no worries, at 3-4 km they would have been worried though. Answer: They don't know but without a way to know no need to worry, it could be ten's of thousands of years so why worry. Also yellowstone has less than full eruptions more often and those wouldn't worry you much across the ocean as you are, so maybe it'll just be one of those next. Who knows.

Would it release more carbon dioxide or sulfur?
#65 to #64 - mcronq (09/02/2012) [-]
Idk about the gases.
User avatar #106 to #65 - upunkpunk (09/02/2012) [-]
Im asking because sulfur would cool the earth down while carbon dioxide would make it hotter.

WE EXPECT THE SUPER VOLCANO UNDER YELLOW STONE THAT WILL EXPLODE AND LEAVE HAVE OF AMERICA UNINHABITABLE..........
User avatar #171 to #158 - gokombwantu (09/02/2012) [-]
Actually if yellow stone erupts it will leave most of the world uninhabiatable, we're not just talking physical damage, but the fact that millions upon millions of tonnes of ash will be sent many miles into the air, this will block out the sen for a large majority of the world and plummet the earth into a new ice age. Oh and the eruption is long over due, meaning the pressure under there is probably getting very unstable. Happy days guise :)
