So this is my very first wholesome story
This is about my childhood, especially about one thing in particular :
If you don't know what that is, it's an app that was on the Nintendo DSi, you can do neat animations (sound included) with it and post them online on a service called "Flipnote Hatena"
I nearly done no animations but I used to be in the community a lot when I was very young, about 11. I had the basics of english, so I could understand the majority of them (French is my native language)
It was nice to come back from school and go to Hatena to see the new animations and the best ones on a daily basis
I even followed some artists that I genuinely liked, among them is Kéké, you maybe heard of him, he is well known on Tumblr, Twitter and Deviant-Art
His art-style was really great back then, and I followed his stories deeply
You hear the music don't you?
I followed th community for around 2 years
After this period, I had to focus a bit more on school so I had less time to play
Month after month, I went there on occasions
Then I didn't logged in for a few months
After I entered in high school, I reopened my DSi, and the thing I feared the most happened :
Flipnote Hatena shutted down on the 31th May of 2013
It was a shock, no more online, and I couldn't see the animations anymore, apart a few that I saved on my DSi
If I were awared on time, I would have archived everything on my sdcard, but everything was lost
Then, around 2 years later, nintento teased the "Flipnote Studio 3DS"
I was hyped as **** when I learn that, because everything would be back as before
It was released in Japan pretty quickly
But for the rest of the world, it was delayed, again and again
After a year and no more news, I lost hope and forgot about it
One week ago, when I was browsering YouTube, I stumbled on a video about a Flipnote animation
I remembered everything, and rushed to see the news about Flipnote 3DS
I was released 10 months ago! (But on My Nintendo tho)
I was so happy, I did research on it to see what the fans thought about it
Turns out that the online gallery is not available, except Japan
But learn something good : with the old Hatena IDs, you can see the Flipnotes from the DSi!
For the next 3 days, I had one thing in mind : GET THAT APP RIGHT NOW
3DS retrived, updates installed, download code redeemed, app downloaded
I go to the DSi gallery and spend 5 hours to see and manually save every flipnote from Kéké (mentionned him before)
It was a feel-good trip even if his current art-style is different from back then so I couldn't feel no nostalgia about that
I'll archive them bits by bits for the sake of posterity
Because the online of Flipnote Studio 3DS will shutdown on April 2nd, 2018!
So if you have something to archive, it's time to act now
If you have read everything, I thank you very much because it's something that holds an important place in me, and I thought sharing would bring good memories from the DSi era to everyone on FJ
Have a great days fellas
