I'm genuinely curious about these studies.
Historically, the blending of cultures has led to success and development whereas the isolation of a culture leads to stagnation and failure. Even among white cultures - groups who refused to integrate with their neighbors ultimately failed under massive empires that thrived on the cultural influences of all its territories.
The reason Western Society has managed to advance to the point that it has (and invent nearly all modern luxuries) was because at its core, Western Philosophy does not and can not support isolationism between cultures.
If there are new studies that counter this, I am deeply intrigued - and not even sarcastically. This could effectively revolutionize the way we see Western society and the development of modern man as a whole.

And this applies on the social level and on the scientific level.
Imagine we ecounter a group of aliens: if they share some traditions like wearing clothes or Olympic-style sporting events, it'll make integrating with them that much easier. And when you can walk into a meeting and not feel like "oh **** don't **** this up don't offend their culture and people" you can more effectively advance together.

I'm pretty sure that at least in the U.S., people prided themselves as being a melting pot of society where the intermeshing of ideas and practices were more than accepted. This really drives home the point that there is a sure of regressivism, where we backtrack to old and outdated ideas.

Hippies are usually okay in my book, they tend to live what they preach, even if they are pretentious about it sometimes.
