Growing up, I struggled with depression, but most noticeably in 12th grade. I had all my medications taken away from me, and only given my daily dose so I didnt off myself. My only friend was my ex because he knew I needed him, but eventually took advantage of the power and would tell me he could make me kill myself. My psychiatrist told me that I wouldnt graduate high school at this rate.

I just finished my first semester of university. It was tough, I had to drop a class to make time for all my doctor appointments and had to study while dealing with medication side effects.

But I am studying psychology and I love it. I have friends. I decorated my dorm room, something i never did at home. Things arent perfect, but every night I take my meds, put on moisturizer and stick a scar removal patch where I used to cut myself.

It gets better guys, it really does.

Eh its a bit messy.

We had a great 8 month relationship in 11th grade, a typical two 16 year olds first love. He was supportive and took good care of me, but my depression and insecurities made me break up with him.

In 12th grade I was alone and having serious trouble. He would come in, talk, text and hang out with me to keep me sane. But we had bad fights. He would put me down for not taking any science courses and taking a low level math, and once he said horrible things about my body when he was drunk I was never so sexually disrespected in my life. I went to school covered up in lose clothing for a long time. I also had nightmares

But at the same time, he was the best thing in my world. When I was sobbing and scared he was so calm and would tell me everything is okay. We laughed, teased each other, watched movies and even boxed. I loved to listen to him talk, hes passionate and very clever. When things were great....they were great.

Once the summer came, we spaced out. The relationship was tough on both of us. He wouldnt talk about it, but im sure he felt obligated to stay. We broke up a year and a half ago, but when we look at each other, our hearts skip a beat. It happens to me and I can see it happens to him too. I havent seen him since october

Good on ya.
I'm sure you've heard this already but I liked this phrase when I heard it in one of my psychiatry classes; suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. No problem is as big as it seems at first glance, you just have to look at it from a different angle, which I admit, can be very hard sometimes.

Heh, no problem. When I'm dealing with people who are diagnosed with depression, bipolar or people who have dark thoughts that could lead to more, I always like to use that sentence to put things in perspective. Have a nice one

Does it really get better though?

Every time there seems to be some sort of improvement in my life, something comes and ***** it up. ***** with my mind. I feel more alone now than ever, with all my family problems and such. I practically love someone right now but she wants nothing to do with me. The only thing keeping me anchored to this world right now, and she wants nothing to do with me. She kept my bed warm, now I don't feel anything for anyone. It only gets worse as the days pass. Will I last? Does it matter to someone if I don't?

im in second year my first just flew by me and i havent really made any friends idk how i dont really try and i hate myself for it i feel like im the cause for all my problems and i feel fake when i try to make myself better i havent made any progress in years i want to start therapy or something but i dont know how to start

Find out where counseling services are in your school, every school has one. Ask around or google it. thats the first step, good luck.

I was diagnosed with a severe panic disorder and agoraphobia a few years ago and it all sucks but I make the best of it and posts like this are always a refreshing sight. Congratulations on your successes and good luck in the future!

Congratulations on conquering the darkness. I was depressed because of the state of the world but I never really needed meds and abandoned killing myself as an option by the time I was 14. Eventually after a lot of reflection I found purpose in life and happiness. I'm 17 and want to go to psychology so I can help others be happy, even if my dad doesn't really like it, which is sad but I don't mind because spreading happiness makes me happy, which is kind of why I've been posting so much here.

well, for me, its never something I can really conquer, ill have it for the rest of my life which kinda sucks, but im learning to live with it. just like having a broken leg

But im fascinated by psychology. Read Love's Executioner by Irvin D. Yalom. Super famous psych book and super intriguing. and ******* go for it!

I've struggled with much of the same in the past. It actually does improve after a while. I never cut myself, but I engaged in forms of self-harm that I didn't even recognize as self harm at the time, such as punching hard objects like concrete walls. I'm just glad I had actual friends and not an exploitative cunt like that guy you described. MFW that asshole.

It seems your doing better already, but for anyone who has anyone like that in their lives: cut them the **** out before it's too late. There was a teenage girl from my state who emotionally manipulated her already depressed boyfriend into killing himself www.foxnews.com/us/2015/09/09/massachusetts-tee... No matter how much it may hurt to lose your only friend, you can't have such toxic people around you if you ever want your condition to improve.

Its tough because not everything is black and white. My ex is the reason why I got through school. He would hang out with me, text me and talk to me when I needed it. It was messy because we used to mean the world to each to each other, which is probably why he stayed after we fought.

I am thankful for him in the end, but once i was stable we distanced. There is a list of thing he said/did that were far from okay. But, I am verry thankful

Oh god that hit hard... I hope that teen gal at least regrets what she done.... I'll be honest... I may have done the same... Allow me to elaborate. So I got injured playing basketball so while I recovered I stayed home all day so I went into a chatroom. Some days later me and some people were joking and suddenly this person just shows up and is talking about how she wants to kill herself. I thought she was joking so I did a morbid joke.... She took offense to that and to this day I never saw her online again... Now I can't prove anything but I feel responsible... I was the last straw that broke the camel's back and I still feel awful because I took someone's loved one and indirectly ended a life that.... From that day forward I started to help everyone I could find depressed that accepted it because I'll be damned if I ever let that happen again.... Nobody deserves to die or loose a loved one especially by suicide so I aim to ease some of the pain in this world so that nobody else suffers that. It is my deepest regret and I hope someday I may redeem myself. Thank you for reading the confession of a random stranger.

Find support in every corner you can, and give support every corner that you can....

What happened to that girl was tough, but you seem to be putting it in the right place. So even if your dad doesnt approve, go into psychology, but only if you do one thing: commit 100%. Its a tough field, and will only be tougher if your dad isnt on board. I dont know him, but hopefully, if you show your passion, work hard and get good grades, he'll approve.

I love my Mom, but she's very stressed and often talks about how she feels like she failed in life. I know she loves me and doesn't mean to say that I'm a failure myself, but I can't help but feel that way sometimes. I don't need to be told what a special little snowflake I am all the time, but it's nice to be appreciated, even if it's just memes.

Life is always a miracle. You can't change the circumstances of which you were born, but that doesn't have to define who you are or what you do with your life. Your mother probably only feels regret wishing she could have put you in better circumstances. I'm sure she loves you and is glad to see a living, breathing child of hers who is free to make their own choices. You make her proud already, and by believing in yourself, you can do even greater things that make her very happy.
